The body is in the woods...

What kind of greeting do you have on your answering machine?
Couldn't the person who called have realized they are on the wrong number? I'd think so if your name or phone number are mentioned at all.

This makes sense. Do you have a specific or just a general greeting?

i think my voicemail "greeting" would scare any potential killers into no longer killing....hahahahahaha

im a bit morbid though. pm me if you'd like to know what it is.

This could get interesting. Definitely a good "watch" thread. :rotfl2:

If this was truly a crime...what an idiot... I mean, leaving a message?? IDIOT!

Within the last week or so we had a bank robber leave his wallet.:lmao:

If they are stupid enough to do the crime and think they won't get caught, they probably are stupid.

ETA: or they're the mob (like a previous poster said).

Are mobs still around? Excuse my crime ignorance, but it's been awhile since I've heard much about the mob

Oh yeah. They are still out and about. Not as prominate as they used to be, but still getting stuff done. Don't ask how I know. ;):rotfl:

All I know is where they supposedly live/lived but don't know if that was back in the Al Capone days or what. Not sure if they are still officially around (wouldn't the mob basically be a high class gang?). I know gangs are around, so... Then again, I can't say I've ever had anyone introduce themselves and go "Hi, I'm Vinny and part of the mob". I would think if they were smart mobster they would keep their mouth shut except those on a need to know basis or something.

Of course, I can't believe anyone who has any brain would leave a message like that. It definitely was not a smart criminal unless the body is something of animal nature let's say. Then maybe they wouldn't think twice about the message because they weren't doing anything illegal? I don't even have a criminal mind and I would know better than to have myself saying anything of that nature KNOWINGLY being recorded if disposing of a human body!!!

Our message does not give a name or number...just leave a message and we'll get back to them later. I know I am a little worried that they can trace
our phone # back to us. I haven't heard anything new from the police. And yes, I did think about THAT episode of the Sopranos!!!

Oh my gosh! I would be completely freaking out. I do hope they are able to solve it. Do you have caller ID on the phone? I'm sure the police already checked, but I'm curious if the number came up.

When I was in middle school (back when caller ID first became popular) we had kids who thought it would be fun to freak out the girls in town by emulating Scream. :scared1: I unfortunately was on the receiving end of several of those calls, as well as a very scary man who calls and tries to find girls home alone so he can sexually harass them. Thankfully he never took it that far because my mom knew what was going on when she got on the other line, but it scared me half to death because he said he was going to kill me. I was the only one he ever called twice.

After that we got caller ID with anonymous call block and have had no problems since. Perhaps you can do that on yours, block anonymous calls? I don't know how well it works this day in age with the proliferation of prepaid phones, but it might be worth checking into for your own peace of mind. Please keep us updated.

Similar stuff happened in Colorado in an area where my cousin and her husband live. My cousin's hubby is a cop and around the time Scream became popular through movie rentals there were a lot of pranks calling going on in the town and often the kids used those voice disguisers. One day a group of boys decided to scare one of their girlfriends but when they called the house the girlfriend's youngest sister answered and they taunted her and later she called the policed and the traced the call to the two boys. The police got a lot of complaints about different kids and eventually they pushed the people getting the calls to get caller ID.

Um, okay, I'm going to be honest here. After seeing one to many episodes of The Sopranos, I don't think I would have called the cops.

Like Java said, this is South Jersey. I wouldn't want it coming back on me that the reason this person got busted was because I called the cops. I think I would have just deleted the message and tried to forget about it.

Maybe that makes me sound like a horrible person, but this mob stuff is real and they are no joke. I wouldn't want them messing with me or my family.

OP, I'm not trying to scare you or anything. There are just a few groups of people I wouldn't want to tangle with and the mob would be one of them. :confused3

I might have to agree here. :goodvibes I would be really conflicted about turning in "a body in the woods", especially in NJ. My conscience would want me to turn it in, but my experience would tell me that it might be better not to

I grew up in Northern Bergen County where the parents didn't exactly take great pains to keep it a huge secret. We never knew any of the details, but were well aware of what our friend's parents did for a living, and there were lots and lots of friends :-).

Even as a clueless, naive Dutch girl, I was well aware of the "rules" and to this day would be hesitant to break them. However, I can't imagine a professional being so stupid to leave a message about it on a stranger's voicemail. That would probably assure me that it was an idiot prankster or an even bigger idiot bad guy and not the really bad guys.

I am Sicilian and we were always told growing up "There is no such thing as the mob." ;)

Sign me up for another "Watch" thread. I've been on a few and the mystery never gets solved, but I'm still intrigued enough to keep following them. :rotfl:
