The boardwalk

Hi, I keep reading people recommending a visit to the boardwalk. Can you lovely people please tell me what is there to enjoy as other than clubs and restaurants there isn't much information on the wdw website. Thanks

It is pleasant for a stroll and you can get ice cream, sweets, few other shops.

Evening is a good time to go looks nice all lit up. There are also entertainers like magicians that get the kids involved. We saw a sword swallower once.

You can also see Epcot fireworks.

We have always had s pleasant hour or two there - if you are eating there makes a nice pre dinner activity. Never been crowded either.

They also hire those Surrey bikes 2 of you peddle.

As the poster above said, it is very pleasant for a stroll around. We love staying int eh Boardwalk area as it is nice to spend an evening walking around and watching the entertainment (usually from around 7 to 10pm).

You can't really see EPCOT fireworks from the Boardwalk, other than some of the higher ones and they are best viewed from the bridge between the Boardwalk and the path to the Beach Club. You can, however, see some of wishes in the distance from the area where the tables are in front of the Boardwalk Bakery.

All in all, it is a pleasant place to spend an hour or so in the evening but I wouldn't make a special visit there if I wasn't staying in the area or already at EPCOT that day. If you really want to visit and aren't staying there, probably the best thing to do would be to go on an EPCOT day in the early evening (around 7). Exit EPCOT via the International Gateway (take a right just before the bridge between UK and France or a left after the bridge if you are coming from the France area). Walk along the path, then follow the path around to the left and that will bring you onto the Boardwalk. What might be nice is to book a table at Beaches and Cream (follow the path straight on to the Bech Club instead of bearing round to the left) or pop into the Dolphin hotel to The Fountain for a milkshake or ice cream sundae (you can see The Swan and Dolphin fromt eh Boardwalk). Keep walking around the Boardwalk and bear left after Jellyrolls to get there. Then wander around the Boardwalk for an hour and re-enter EPCOT around 8.30 to find a spot for Illuminations (much better to watch from inside the park).

We regularly visit on trips and now stay at the bc mainly as love the area. Dont generally eat there (may with the new italian) but really pleasant at night to wind down and have a drink. Very olde worlde, relaxed and beautiful

Actually, that's pretty much it. There are a few "buskers" that do impromptu sidewalk shows (magicians, jugglers, that kind of thing) and there are a few carnival type games.

Thanks all it sounds like a lovely place to have a stroll. I do like the idea of going for a little visit on one of our Epcot evenings before going to Epcot for the fireworks but will have to see how it fits into the rest of our plans. I'm struggling a bit at the moment to get the balance between parks and rest etc.

We love the boardwalk, have spent many a happy evening there having a meal or just a stroll around the boardwalk and the different resorts with an ice cream or a snack from the bakery. Beaches and cream is well worth a visit and the bakery does some lovely cakes and is a nice place to sit and watch the world go by

You can hire a surrey bike (4 seater, or 2 seater - not a tandem but a side by side seat) and cycle the 1/2 mile around the lake.

We took the boat from DHS to Epcot. It was a nice leisurely ride with a few stops along the way that allowed us to see the Boardwalk area from the water. (It worked well for us as we were using only Disney transport that trip.)

Thanks again for all your replies, I also like the idea of getting the boat over from HS as it sounds very relaxing. I can't seem to get a plan I'm happy with at the moment but I will try to fit in either this or a trip out of epcot.

Boardwalk is great - especially in the early evenings when there are street performers around, the place has a great atmosphere. Take a stroll across to Yacht and Beach too (or take the boat over) and try out the Beaches & Cream ice creams. Parking is never a problem in Boardwalk, they ask for Photo ID on the gate for reasons I don't know and it is no more than a 5min walk in. Big River Grille is good for food, we always try and visit there.
