The Boardwalk Inn Information Thread

This thread started in 2002.
I called Board Walk Inn yesterday and was told a refrigerator is standard in all rooms. The front page on this thread says they cost $10.00 per day. Has anyone been there recently and can give me the correct answer on this?
Also are there coffee pots in every room now or do we still have to request one from housekeeping?

There is no longer an additional charge for the frig, and there is one in each room without having to request it. There is also a small coffee maker.

The rooms are lovely. They are a bit more formal than some Disney-themed hotels, but not so much that I wasn't comfortable there with my twin boys (7) and daughter (3 at the time). I loved the balcony; I would go out while the kids were falling asleep. The bathroom area is much more spacious than a value resort. The sleeper bed was perfect for my youngest. The lobby area was very elegant, but I do like that, so perhaps I am not the one to ask. We were there at Christmas time and had a great time in the lobby looking at the gingerbread display and trying to find the hidden Mickeys. The pool is very kid-friendly and fun with a great slide and spraying elephants. My kids liked it the best of all. The Boardwalk area is a throw-back to the Jersey shore from yesteryear, but it is very Disney too. We loved being able to walk to Epcot and boat to DHS. It was especially nice after keeping the kids up late to see fireworks. Perhaps you will spend more time at those parks on your trip since you are so close to them? We usually spend all of our time at MK, but really took the time to enjoy the closer parks on our trip.

We're going to the Boardwalk in December... not exactly by choice!
I had planned on poly,or contemporary...or pretty much any resort OTHER then BWI. I am worried that it will just be like going down the shore (I live in NJ!).Tell me... will it thrill me- am I missing the big picture?
The lobby looks SOOO formal for a family with two small, loud,messy kids- yikes!
And the furniture in the rooms... is it as breakable and pointy as it looks?
How much of a trip is it to the Magic Kingdom?
We've only stayed at POP,which I liked for it's durable,kid-friendly design..(although the food court was a bit of a madhouse!)

Hi! I had a question about the walk to the Studios. We are going to the BI in late June/early July and we are walkers, we walk all the time, and will probably not use the boats unless we're super tired. My mom is so excited to be able to get to 2 parks without a bus (3 if you count taking the monorail from Epcot to MK!) How long (time, not distance) was the walk to the Studios? Is it an easy walk, is it hilly, etc...? We're just trying to gauge time and ease to determine when we should leave in the AM. We are commando park people (not really like the crazy scheduley type, but the go go go because we have so much energy type) so the main reason we want to walk is because it's faster than the boat

Side Note: I second the SCARY CLOWN pool thought! Yikes

What would a standard view be of from the BWI? I'm hoping to at least be able to see other hotels or a distant view of Hollywood Studios.

The walk to the Studios from the BWI is not a difficult one. We walk to and from the Yacht Club all the time. If the boat is not at the dock, you can walk to or from the park faster than waiting for the boat to arrive. If you're a walker, it feels good to walk at a good pace as opposed to the pace in the parks. Have a wonderful vacation.

Yes, it does. If you wanted to take the boat, and see it at the S/D, you can hop on there. It does get you there faster than walking if you catch it at the right moment. Otherwise, you can walk it with ease.

Derek&Ashley:
The standard view can be anything. Ours was a lovely view of a courtyard. Some get a view of fireworks at Epcot at night. I believe that some do face the parking lot. You can ask when you are checking in.

The tip I can pass along on the very simple walk(my then 3 year old did it) is to go through the pool area to shorten the walk- don't go out to the boardwalk area it'll take you all the way around-does that make sense?

Thank you for the tip! I had seen a map on another thread that had the walking paths highlighted and it showed the highlighted route going through the pool area. We've never stayed at the Boardwalk, but I'm sure that will make more sense once we get there Thanks again!

The walk will probably take you about 10 -15 min's depending upon how fast you walk. It's a pretty easy walk; I don't recall there being any hills or anything. I was at the Boardwalk for my first time last Dec and loved being able to go to both the Studios and EPCOT without having to use Disney transportation. I always beat the boat every time. But, then, it does make other stops and doesn't just go from the Boardwalk to the Studios and back. It also stops off at EPCOT, Yacht and Beach Club and Swan and Dolphin.

I do agree with the PP to cut though the clown pool to cut down on your time. I didn't figure this out my first couple of trips and had to walk all the way to the end of the Boardwalk Villa section (to where the Boardwalk began) and then walk back up the boardwalk to go over to the Inn side.

When you exit the Inn part, cross the courtyard and there is a breezeway next to the fitness room on the Villas side of the courtyard. Pass through that and you are at the pool.

I pulled up the property map on allearsnet and I see exactly where you mean to go. It does seem like it will make it quite a bit shorter. Thanks for the tip

When we were at the Boardwalk in February, they did still have the caricature artists. However, I am not sure of the prices. Sorry! Just wanted to let you know that they still had them, I'm sure that someone else on here can let you know prices.

I didn't want to start a whole separate thread on the restaurants board when I knew my fellow Boardwalk Inn peeps would know the answer My family likes to sleep in and I'm an early riser. Since I don't want to have to tip toe around the room until they get up, I thought I'd take a walk around and stop in the Boardwalk Bakery and get a treat and some coffee. Any idea what time it opens?

Great idea. The Boardwalk is wonderful in the early am - very peaceful. I can not remember exactly when they open but I do know it was fairly early as we stopped by there before heading to MGM for EMH.

We are staying in a BWI CL Garden Suite in Oct and I cannot wait. The suites are located by the quiet pool....if you are in the lobby face the boardwalk and go to the right, down the elevator out the door is the quiet pool and the suites surround it. The CL lounge is on the 4th floor down the hall towards the boardwalk...some say it is quite a hike from the suites but I dont mind...quiet and large rooms are why we are booked for the suite.
