Day 2 - Saturday Morning, July 6.
I wake up to the sound of a nock on our door, its my dad and its 6:30 AM. Our alarm clock never went off. Later discover that I had set it for 6:00 PM, not 6:00 AM, doooh! Oh well! I take a quick shower and then wake up my wife and kids. While they are getting ready I head down to the lobby and grab everyone a continental breakfast and head back to the room. By 8:30 everyone is ready so we hit the road. We make a quick stop at the Welcome center in Mississippi for maps and a quick break. We stop at the Welcome center in Alabama for lunch and everything is smooth sailing until we get to Mobile Alabama. Up until now the traffic has been moderate and weve been able to keep up a good 75 mph on the highway for most of the day. Well all of a sudden I see brake lights lighting up everywhere in front of me and I start to slow down and come to a complete stop with plenty of room to spare. However, as I look in my rearview mirror, all I can see is cars and trucks coming up real fast and changing lanes at the last second and they whiz by on the left and right. It doesnt take long until both the left and right lanes start to back up, but traffic is still coming up behind me at full speed. My mom senses were in trouble and all I can see is a car coming up behind us and it doesnt look like they are going to have enough time to stop, so I begin to ease forward as much as I can to give the other driver more time to stop. It still doesnt look like they are going to stop in time so Im getting ready to pull into the left lane and sideswipe someone if I have to in order to avoid being rear-ended. My kids are in the 3rd row seat and Im worried that if we take a high-speed impact they are really going to be injured. The lord is looking over us and the car stops in time. The rest of the day is uneventful and we make it in to the Fairfield Inn in Tallahassee, FL around 4:30 PM and promptly hit the pool and hot tub. We order in Pizza from Pizza Hut and watch TV for the rest of the evening. Everyone is in bed and asleep by 11:30 and we eagerly anticipate our arrival in Orlando tomorrow afternoon.
