The Berkshires

reread my last post...........I worked for them.. :sad2:

actually, i remember a loooong time ago you were boasting about being able to afford concierge level at the deluxe resorts while you were on "disability". :confused3

D&D is definitely a more adult game. I knew several people who played years ago but they were all older teens or college age.

FWIW Diana, I looked at your pictures on your MySpace, assuming you are the woman in the photos, and I think you look just lovely the way you are. :goodvibes
LOL, I am that woman and thank you!

I was going to get it done in the Berkshires beacuse my mother and sister will both be with me and can watch the kids together. It's just easier on my mommy is all...

First off, please get your facts straight. I didn't bathe PJ in the winter because my windows were so drafty that when I had my heat cranked to 80 it was only about 60 in the apartment. I'd asked how to deal with that issue. I've never ever ever not paid a bill. Not ever. Not once.
I don't think I'll ever get you guys to understand me so I've stopped trying. My ORIGINAL POST asked if anyone knew of a decent salon in the Berkshires that could do the process I want to have done. I didn't ask if you guys thought I should do it, or why I shouldn't do it.
I've been Platnium in the past and I know what the upkeep on it is. I also know that our budget can withstand a visit to the salon every month or 6 weeks.
As far as subjecting myself to riducule? I can't post here what I think about that so I'll just attempt to be PC and say I don't much care...

Hmmm... you seem to be a lot more mature and direct now and you're not so quick to dash out of here in a huff. I like it... perhaps it's a sign of the newly improved Diana. :goodvibes

I think ultimately it's your life and your choice plus you live in NY. If you find a career that will suit you, your lifestyle/expression/style of dress, and your values/etc than I don't see why not. Seems like life is getting better for you and your family... go with it! :wizard:

LOL, I left in a "huff" in the middle of a really icky thread that I didn't want to deal with anymore. Not the most mature way to handle it but sometimes...
I'm trying to be new and improved...I really am so thank you for noticing!!!

What you do to your hair isn't mine or anyone else's business. If it turns out to be a big mistake, it's only hair for crying out loud!

In answer to your question - try The Clip Shop on Elm street in Pittsfield. Their number is (413) 442-6903

See?!!!!!!!!! I KNEW someone would know!!! Thank you! I love this place. It never ever fails to amaze me...

Go for it! I love to do different colors in my hair. The problem is finding a hairstylist that will listen to you and do what you want. I say funky, they do conservative :confused3 . The last time I had my hair colored I felt blah for days. Even my friends who are hair consevative said it just wasn't me. A trip to the store, a bottle of dye, some help from my daughter, my world was in balance again LOL!

How do you mean? We have PLENTY of young/free-spirited/hippy/punk/goth/creative nonconformists here (not necessarily at the same time). We aren't all anxiously awaiting the BSO's next concert at Tanglewood. ;)

Forgive me if this seems harsh but I'm just so tired of a trend I have been seeing a lot of on the DIS and since this is the latest one.. I'm just going to vent here.

In your case DWhittles, you post saying you want to spend over $100 for a purple dye job on your hair and earlier you said you wanted to get a tattoo - now I'm not familiar with tattoos at all but I'm sure they are not cheap by any means. But at the same time I have seen you also post about barely having enough money for food or rent.

These 2 things do not go together. I'm sorry but if you can't wonder in one breath where the money will come from to buy groceries and in the next wonder where you will find the perfect hair salon. :confused3

I see the same thing with other people.. posts about money problems and then a week or two later, a trip is planned for WDW. :confused3

I don't get it. DH Matthew has been unemployed after being laid off for the greater part of this year. I'm working full time when my doctors don't even want me working *period* to bring money into the house to pay bills and make sure that we don't go hungry while Matt finds another job. The LAST thing on my mind right now is a trip to WDW, getting my hair colored or getting a tattoo. My mind is on making sure that I have enough money at the end of the month to afford my medication and take care of my responsibilities... not superficial things.

Even if someone were to offer to me right now to pay for a $100 hair process.. you know what? I wouldn't do it. If they really wanted to spend $100 on me and insisted then I would ask them to give me a gift card to some place where the money would come in handy at this point - a pharmacy, a grocery store, WalMart, whatever.

Why does it seem (and I'm not just talking about the OP, but all over.. in cyber life and real life) that everyone has gotten such a "me" mentality? Yeah, it's nice to be able to do things that would be pampering but you know what? Sometimes you have to get your priorities in order and make sure you are doing what is right.. not what you want. Not something that gives you a "high" for a short time like a trip that puts you further in debt for years or a fancy haircut and color that grows out several months later...

DWhittles.. I'm sure that nothing I say will sway you one way or the other about getting your hair dyed. You seem to be pretty set on the idea. But before you spend that much money on something like that.. just think about what else could be done with that money - or- what that money could do if saved. If the day after you get your hair done one of your children gets very sick and needs a prescription for $100... will you be able to take care of it or will there be regret?

Once again.. this is not meant to flame anyone. I just don't get it. If someone can explain it to me - by all means, do so. Apparently I have been pretty hard on myself in times of need.

And sometimes ya just have to go for it and live a little. :sunny:

I don't know the OP, and I haven't followed her story in its entirety, but if she is coming back from hard times, sometimes its o.k. to reward yourself a little. :goodvibes I personally cannot imagine platinum blonde with purple tips, but I sure wanna see a pic of it afterwards! :teeth:

Salon

Check out the above link.
My sister went to this place on vacation. Said it was very nice.

I don't know your story, but who are we to tell you not to get purple hair? Yod didn't ask for opinions of your hair choice. You ask for salon information. Seems like you have parents who are helping you out. So what? It's their money. If they want to give it to you, it is not our business.

If you want to dye your hair platinum with purple streaks then have at it. You do realize you'll have to get your roots done every couple of weeks - not once a month, right? You've posted how tired you are all of the time and how you can't get any rest and you need your sister to come out to help you take the dog to be groomed. Have you considered how you're going to manage to get to a salon every couple of weeks to maintain it? You're probably better off going with something requiring less upkeep and keep the purple streaks.

As far as the finances, I find it hard to believe (short of a lottery winning) how someone who doesn't have a dresser to put her clothes in and was upset because she couldn't afford a cheap hotel for a birthday overnight a couple of months ago can now afford a new TV and an expensive trip to WDW within a year's time.

I don't get it.

Well, one explanation is that you do not know everything about what is going on in a person's life by their posts on the DIS, only what they choose to tell you. I can use my own situation to explain: I have posted 1) That our air conditioning is broken and can't afford to fix it right now, 2) That we went to WDW 2 weeks ago, and 3) That we are staying at the beach for 4 days this coming week. That would look like I was being irresponsible and spending money on trips when I could be fixing my a/c. But the truth of the matter is that we are extremely thrifty, and the cost of the two trips combined, even with allowing a splurge of a nice dinner on each trip, does not even come close to the $1500 we need for the a/c, so we still would not be able to fix it right now anyway. And I would spend my vacation next week sitting in a stifling hot house (we live in FL) when I could be spending it in an air conditioned condo on the beach. And, I already know I will be getting a large bonus next month, in addition to a raise, with which I will be able to pay for the repairs.

DWhittles - I say you need to be who you are, don't try to fit yourself into anyone else's concept of who you should be if that is not going to make you happy. If you want purple hair and a tattoo, go for it. People who judge you as not being a good mother or immature because of the way you choose to express yourself are just stating their own opinion, they are not stating anything factual. I have a professional job, and my tattoo was just as visible as it could be when I interviewed for it. I got hired because I know what I am doing and had good recommendations, not because I fit someone's mold of what you have to look like to be a good employee. If you were looking for a job, which you don't sound as if you plan on doing right now anyway, and the hair caused a problem, it could be died back to a natural color - no big deal. No one else can tell you who Diana SHOULD be, only you know who you really are, and you have every right to be that person.

ITA with this

Unfortunately I need to color my hair to cover the gray. With a 4yo, 2yo and 7mo I never have time. You should see what my roots look like right now. It's really scary

I know what it is hon....I managed a toy store, I thought little kids played it! I know no mature adults who play it!

Then obviously you were dealing with Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Duel Masters, etc. Dungeons and Dragons is a book/mini figure game that "mature adults" and some kids play. Yeesh.

I don't mean to be rude again, but my SO works for Wizards of the Coast and they have not had a store in this area in a long, long time. If ever. :confused3 I know they have stores, but I can't recall the last one that was here. So I'm a bit befuddled. But again, we should really start a new thread for this and quit hijacking Diana's...
Whoa, your SO works for WOTC??? Rock on!! :)

I generally try to stay out of these threads because really whats the point, Half the time I am thinking the poor girl and the other half what the heck is she thinking?

Why don't you dye your hair purple? you are correct it is only hair and doesn't really matter. The hair is not the issue. The issue is you seem to be searching for somthing to validate yourself. Tattoos, hair color?
You want to be creative paint a mural on the boys wall, tye dye some onesies. paint thier furniture, all creative outlets that will allow you to be expressive. I promise you when PJ goes to preschool.... Others will will look at Mom's purple hair and wonder? A a parent I would teach him to be artsy and creative in ways that will not set him up for ridicule from others.

I am not trying to be preachey or insulting to you. I simply think there are a heck of alot of things of more importance on your plate right now. you will be far better off not searching for what you have lost in yourself but, rather concentrate on what you have found in your life. 2 kids who are by the way just georgous!
