from the Church two doors away from where we live - and it sounds so lovely!!

It is the first time since we've moved here that we have heard bells - I wondered if they didnt ring them or something, but today they are peeling out and it is really nice to hear!

I expect it might get on some people nerves but I really love the sound of Church bells ringing out.

:) :) :)

I wonder why today?

:earseek:
I saw your thread title

"The bells are ringing out....."

and thought for one awful moment you were going to finish it with

"....for Christmas time!"

Phew! I don't think I could cope with Christmas talk already (apart from WDW planning ;) ). I saw decorations out for sale in our Debenhams yesterday and had to make a quick diversion to the other side of the shop to avoid them!

Now, church bells I can tolerate.....;) :teeth:

...... well I hope they don't start ringing them at the crack of dawn on a regular basis Jan or you might get too much of a good thing :teeth: !!

( I speak as one who spent a fortnight or so staying very near to a cathedral and I got a little bit  after the first few days!

The bells! The bells!

We used to live about 50 metres from the local church and believe me the bells are nice to hear at the beginning - but after a few weeks they tend to loose there a-peal (slight pun there :jester: )

We used to have to put up with bell ring practice twice a week and weddings most weekends

Lovely church bells:D We have ringing practice every Monday evening - my DD always has to have her window shut at bedroom because "they get on her nerves".

Seriously though, I think they are a lovely sound, wouldn't be village life without them.

However, let's hope the ringers didn't watch Midsomer Murders at the weekend . . . (if you don't know what happened, shout, cos I thought I'd best not post in case someone had it recorded;) ).

Sounds idylic, Jan.

Now you just go settle down with a nice cream scone and listen to The Archers,Pet.

Ah, better than the hustle and bustle of City life,eh?

I suppose I should confess that I am a bellringer (nothing to do with the fact that I get on everyones nerves either ;))

And no Quasimodo quips either!

Aaaaarrrrgggggghhhhh!

I remember staying in a hotel near Alton Towers and the church clock chimed EVERY HOUR!

Kept us up all bloomin' night!

:(

Just think about us poor souls getting out of bed at the crack of dawn (OK, 9am then ;)) on a sunday morning to ring the bells!

I used to love doing weddings as we get paid for it ;)

i live a stone's throw from a church which chimes it bell every hour to signify the hour

sometimes in the middle of the night it's really loud - especially in the summer when you've got the windows open

;)

Most American churches don't have bells, so they play a recording of bells. Honestly, it lacks something.
