the beer mug program?

I have to chime in as a mug user. When I bought the mug on our first cruise six years ago. The deal was you buy the mug and you can bring it back any time, any cruise, for refills. That's what I was told when I bought it and that's what I believe. The tickets were a great idea so you didn't have to carry the mug around or home with you. Our seventh cruise this January on the Dream was the first time there was ever a question. Some bartenders said the program was still on, some said no. I too am a very ethical person and if I believed I was "cheating" someone I wouldn't do it. I see no harm in Disney and I continuing the program and honoring the agreement we had when I purchased the mug. No one presented me with a written "Disney Policy" on beer mugs when I purchased it so I'm going by what I was told at the time of sale. If you buy park tickets at an agreed upon price/duration but the price goes up at the time you use them...should you pay the difference? The answer is "of course not". I don't know why this is so controversial. Cheers! :drinking1

Did they still have a clean mug to exchange out? I mean, since technically it isn't an active program and all. The way DCL is with the soda machines I can't see that they would just let you use the same mug over and over.....

on the Magic, yes. We just went on a Western and DH just handed over his "beer" card every time and always got a clean mug back. Then he turned in his empty mug for the card again and on the last night turned in the card for an empty clean mug. It worked out great except that a lot of the new staff didn't really understand how it worked. We had to explain the whole system to our assistant server at dinner who clearly had never even seen one before in her 2 month tour...

I agree with this, and was planning to bring our mug back on our next cruise, hopefully next year :woohoo: . Our last cruise was sadly in 2006:sad2: and at the end of the cruise all the DCL mugs were spoken for and we could only get the ESPN mugs that they also had at the time. Same size and everything, has anyone taken one of these back on recently?

We are taking a cruise on the Magic in November. Does anyone know what kind of beer they have on draught on the Magic? I know my husband would be interested in this depending on the type of beer. Thanks!

Can the beer mug pkg be purchased on board? If so, where?

Is there any advantage purchasing on board vs. purchasing in advance?

Thanks!

Yes you can buy it at any bar
It is the same price on the ship or in advance

hmm...so whether you bring it back or not is a question for the ethics police. For me, the question is, how much does a 22 oz draft beer cost if you buy it without the mug? or can you? I am trying to figure out how many beers to drink to make it pay off.

I saw this a few months ago and it seems like you need to drink 18 beers to break even

I'll be brining my Mug Token , (and my Cove Cafe Coffee Card) if they take it fine, if not I'll buy another mug. Seems fair eh? Let the bartenders decide.

All this fuss,

Rob, It can't be as many as that, can it? At that rate, you would have to bring it back on your next cruise just to catch up.

It's gotta be something like four or five - but you can't tell until you know the numbers. Do they even sell a 22 oz beer without the special mug?

You cannot buy a 22oz beer only a 16oz.
Here is my info from an old post where I figured out all the math :)

22oz Glass Mug that is refillable.(pre purchase online or buy the FIRST day of cruise)

Cost is 14.95 plus a beer--about 6 bucks (~21.00)

a regular beer is 16oz. You pay that price for a beer (about 6 bucks) to fill a 22oz mug.

you can keep mug with you or turn it in when done drinking for the time being and get a little card for a refill, just don't forget to get a mug back at the end of your trip.

Here is the "DEAL"(breaking even on purchase price) part broke down(I posted this several months ago on a beer thread).....

Ok, my husband and I figured this out before....We will say an average 16oz beer is $6.00 (Guinness being the most.....bud/miller light least)

MUG- $15.00 (equal to about the cost of 3ish regular small beers, I am aware that $6x3 does not equal 15 trying to simplify)

You get about 5 extra ounces per mug (yes they are 22 oz, but spillage, beer head etc. we will leave off an ounce )

So if you buy 3 beers in your mug, that is 15 bonus ounces which would be pretty close to a 16oz beer.

So, 9 mug beers would give you appx. 3 small beers worth of "extra" beer.

So, depending on what brand you are drinking (I am pretty sure they vary in price) you would have to order 9 or 10 beers with your mug.

(which we do NOT need a 7 day cruise for )

Math is not my one of my strong suits, but I think I got it right....

soooo..just don't drink beer!! Only kidding, we have an old ESPN mug and some from the Magic on later cruises. DH only drinks about two beers a cruise but he likes the mugs so we end up purchasing them and bringing them home for serving at our parties.:cool1:
