The Beatles,Elvis and ...............TAYLOR!?

Linda McCartney?
Because I'm a huge Beatles and McCartney guy, it is literally the first thing I thought. Then I thought of Linda Perry from 4 Non Blondes. But I realized that while those two Lindas had many wonderful qualities, they wouldn't be included in the pantheon with Aretha, Carole King, etc.

As for song writer, does she write her songs alone or with people?
I thought I heard when she was going back to rerecord her albums one issue was getting agreement of co authors.
I am not saying she does contribute more than any, or that others should be getting praise. It just may be the others write accompanying music parts. I just always wondered how much she wrote after I heard that, I didn't wonder enough to research or anything, but to find out by writing quick post seems a lot easier.

My comments are coming from the belief that the Beatles and Bowie were innovators not the genres they did or did not follow. The Stones took one genre and at times cross pollinated it but pretty much stuck to the blues. LZ much like Wonder stopped new songs early on and tbh are a legacy band. Do I love them? Most assuredly but their music is easily defined by a certain time and place.
Paul McCartney tried to say that but Mick Jagger, whom I quoted up thread, had the answer.

“One band is unbelievably luckily still playing in stadiums and then the other band doesn’t exist,”

In fact, if you look at the career of the two bands, it's quite the opposite. the Stones started out as a simple blues band, but had to adapt and change in order to last through several different eras. The Beatles never had to do that because they broke up.

BTW there is one thing the Beatles (actually engineers at their studio) innovated that is still in use today. It's artificial double tracking. This was invented at the request of Lennin so that he didn't have to double record his vocals. Artificial double tracking is a far less advanced predecessor to Auto Tune. HAHA. Ironic that Beatles fans would complain about Autotune when the Beatles kind of started that kind of thing. The Beatles used it on Revolver and on every album afterwards.

People are excited about Coldplay?
Someone is reading this and probably thinking, "is that that new popular beer?"

Right now, in real time, it sure appears that Taylor is approaching Beatlemania level as much as any other artist over the past decade. I've never been to one of her concerts and don't really care to but just from the news coverage and some of the reports from friends that have gone I think she does have that level of hype in the moment.

That doesn't mean she will have anywhere near the staying power of the Beatles and I don't take the original quote as even comparing her and them as far as talent goes. From a pure hype and zeitgeist standpoint I think she is probably the only act that comes close at the moment. Coldplay is probably in (distant) second place and the same thing goes for them. Will they still be as popular and relevant in 50 years? Time will tell.
The Beatles broke up after 8-10 years depending on whether you measure from first album, first time they broke it big, or whether you count the years spent before they made it big. Taylor's approaching almost double that. So in one measure of longevity, she's already beat em.
.

I see Taylor was picked as person of the year by Time. Cue the outrage. HAHA. Not necessarily from this thread. But you know it will come and from what sources.

And what an amazingly prolific 8 to 10 years that was!

Despite the professional rivalries (and I’m not speaking of the manufactured version brought up by ad men) the generosity of camaraderie and interest in the works of others was phenomenal. Seeing Ringo Starr backstage at one of Bowie’s early concerts was somewhat surprising. Glad I was alive for this timeframe for we shan’t see similar again.

I was speaking more about the cultural relevance than their time together but I am also talking about the members of the band. Three of the four had long successful careers after they broke up and one still does. I've seen Paul twice in the past decade.

Is it possible the grand children of Swifties will still be listening to her? Of course but it isn't guaranteed. I see Beatles shirts on kids all the time from elementary school through high school.

I notice similar, but the t-shirt is not a guarantee that they listen to the music. My 10 year old granddaughter strolled into my house over the summer in a Rolling Stones tongue logo t-shirt. I thought "Finally, this is my moment when I get to tell her I'd seen them live several times, met them, and drag out the photo of me with them. What a cool grandpa (she is going to think.) So I ask if she knew who the Rolling Stones were, she replied "No idea." Alas, it was merely a fashion choice:o

and thats just to name a few. she has also gained the respect of all the legends before her. Paul, Billy, Carol King, Nicks, Ringo considers her the successor of the beatles.

I thought nothing would top her 2015 year which was already one of the biggest years for an artist ever but 2022-2023 has just blown away everyone and she is still only 33.

Her legacy and her business moves will last for generations

Talked to 18 y/o DGD and asked her opinion of Taylor Swift since she’s in the right age group. She is not a super fan and says she’d be more apt to be a member of the Beyhive than a Swifty. Oh but she’s not that into Knowles either. When pressed to elaborate she said TS‘ singing is too “middle of the road “. Guess she really is related to me, 😆 .

In the interest of fair play I asked her to put the same question to her French girl cousins as they seem to more exactly fit the demographics of the average Swiftie. We’ll see.

Hey. When Fox is ragging on your boyfriend, you've got to be someone good. HAHA.

LOL they had a stuffed shirt on there who has a triple chin call him a beta male. I'm thinking really? You're a stuffed shirt with 3 chins that my grandmother could beat up and you're calling the guy that bashes people and gets bashed for a living a beta. Shoot. Why don't you just walk up to Connor McGregor and call him a wimp tough guy?
By the way what did Taylor do to deserve that? She told the Swifties to vote. Note that she didn't even tell them who to vote for. HAHA.

Yea she really gets the far right wing riled up

Yup! All she did was reminded people to vote. She did drive voter registrations

I think it is because for years these same people called her like their neo nazi princess because she was blonde and white and then she came out against Trump

I’ve seen some bloggers think she is a left wing psyop and the photos of her and Travis are AI

And she'd also a pawn of George Soros and she's being "activated" by the Left as a form of "election interference".

Those people are totally nuts.

Which if they paid attention a hedge firm owned by Soros bought her masters from Scooter. She herself said this when it happened and how upset it made her

I have nothing against Taylor at all. Time however was looking for nothing but who would be the best clickbait period. It's a worthless publication.
