The Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves! (my journal)

Hi Don! I survived my vacation, even though I came home with a couple extra lbs...

That is funny about the chicken! When I get a huge one like that, I always slice it in half so it cooks better. Some of them are so monstrous, I wonder what kind of gargantuan chicken they came off!!!

Sorry, I can't give you any sympathy on the heat - today's high is forecast at 114 :sunny:

Sounds like you are doing pretty good, have you've found that your soda cravings are gone now that you've been off it for so long? And have you been staying away from the evil breakroom? Keep up the good work, especially all that walking!

I say GO FOR IT on the choir! Sounds neat and it will keep you busy and motivated to keep losing!

Hi Don,

Just wanted to stop in and say hi! Hope you are having a great, healthy day!

Jamie

Hey Don!

Sounds like you are doing pretty good! Sorry to hear about the heat and the burnt chicken! Can you tell me what a Breakfast Burger is as we have no Carl Jr's around here? Just sounds interesting!

Keep moving those feet and banging your head to Metallica!
Have a great day and stay cool if you can!
Mike :cool1:

Thanks everyone, good day so far.
Mike, here's the link to Carl's Jr menu: http://www.carlsjr.com/menu, its under breakfast. It was ok, I might do it again if I had another coupon, and try it without the potatoes and bun. Carl's and Hardees are owned by the same company now, we used to have Hardee's out here years ago, no more. I've been wanting to try the Monster Burger just once, sounds like a killer. Ha, just went to the Hardee's website, looks like exactly the same stuff as Carls. The Carl's $6 burgers look the same as the Thickburgers, big ole burgers!
:jester:

Thanks for the link Don!
Their bunless options look tasty but $6, oh my! $6 could buy a lot of good food at my local veggie/fruit market!

Mike

What's funny about that is that they call them $6 burgers because they say they're the same burgers you get for $6 at a restaurant like applebee's or something, but that they don't cost $6, but If you get the combo meal or one of the specialty ones, like bacon cheese or guacamole, it actually does cost about $6. :rotfl2:

Hi Don!

The heat is everywhere! :scared: Yesterday, we were in the low 90s and today, it's the same thing. We need rain so badly here in Northeast Ohio. :umbrella: Yesterday evening, it thundered for about a half hour, but no rain. :sad2:

So, you like Metallica huh? :teeth: Their music will definitely get your blood pumping for a good workout! ::yes:: There is a local radio station here in Cleveland that plays Metallica quite frequently. A couple of years ago, there was a rumor circulating that someone from Metallica called the radio station and told them to quit playing their music so much. Not sure if it's true or not. :confused3 What other bands do you listen to?

That chicken sounds..... interesting. :rotfl: I'm glad that part of it was salvageable though. ::yes::

Have a great day! :sunny:

Guacamole!!! mmmm Yes please!! hehe

Have a great day man!

Just caught up with your journal. I had read it before I left, but didn't get the chance to post.

You are doing REALLY good! Especially with the caffeine/cola war!

Go for the Choir. It will be an awesome experience and a great motivator!

Loved your chicken story. Must add one on my DH - My B & SIL came to visit a couple hours when we lived in TX and DH was going to smoke chicken. He got busy, forgot it and it IGNITED!!!! Then, he tried to salvage it, but to put the fire out used a Halon fire extinguisher. (we ordered Pizza!) They still laugh at his Halon Chicken!

I have a pretty wide range of tastes, tons of music on my computers, jazz, classical, a little country, lots of classic rock, some pop stuff, quite a bit of the heavy stuff, but my favorite is the more progressive rock and metal. My 2 favorite bands are Rush and Dream Theater, been a Rush fanatic since about 1980. My other favorite bands are Blue Oyster Cult, Yes, Doobie Brothers, Chicago, Pink Floyd, King's X, Metallica, Van Halen, Kansas, ZZ Top, Judas Priest, The Police, Styx, Boston. My favorite solo artists are Sting, James Taylor, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Billy Joel, Jimi Hendrix. I love the Canadian Brass, Spyro Gyra, Weird Al, John Denver, Johnny Cash, Alabama, Restless Heart. Some lesser known artists, Kurt Bestor, Joe Satriani, Steve Morse, Dixie Dregs, Ron Jarzombek. I could go on and on, music is my life. I've played piano and trumpet on and off, sung in many choirs and solo. I like Baroque music best of all classical, Bach is my favorite, love Handel, Vivaldi, Beethoven, Mozart. See what you've done, you got me started on music.

Knowing the above, I don't think we could ever stand a long car ride together Don! I think we have complete opposite music tastes. hehe! Which is cool! Though I suppose I could always bring my box set of Disney music!!

HAHA, well, I DO love my disney music. The original Mad About the Mouse is my favorite, recently I've had the Official Disneyland Album, The Mormon Tab Choir Disney album, and Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Bach. Still waiting for that heavy metal disney album, c'mon Aerosmith!

Hi Don! Nice job on the cola war, Lieutenant DON! Go for the choir!

Hey Tracy-I live in NW ohio, you live in NE Ohio...whoa! Mirror image goin' on!

Any way Lieutenant Don, have a great day!

Good for you Don on the cola wars! I know it's tough!!!!! But you can do it!!! I know you can!

So how are things going today?

Hi, Don! How are you doing? I share a lot of your musical tastes, though I haven't heard of some of those bands. Take your mix and add drum and bugle corps and all things Disney and lots of contemporary country (Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, etc., etc.) and lots of soundtrack music and you've got my ipod playlists.

So, what's on the menu tonight? I imagine you'll skip the well done chicken, right? Did you get out for a walk in the last couple of days? It was wicked hot last night when I left work, but by the time I went out for a walk it was bearable, and on the walk home, it was downright breezy (enough that I was uncomfortable about my oversized tee shirt being plastered against my lumpy, oversized body! ;))

I hope you are having a great day!

I just read (over the last few hours in between other things) over your journal so far. You are doing great. Keep up the exercise. I do find out that I can't get on the scale except once a week (if I can hold myself to that). I just get too frustrated.

A point about the Powerade and Gatorade - you really shouldn't drink that unless you have done some heavy movement and need to replace a lot of sweat. That replaces your electrolytes and salt back into your body. If you do drink it you should also make sure you drink twice the amount of water right after it. Most of that is to help with the sugars that are in the "ades". So when the poster - sorry I forgot who you were already - said she mixes hers with water - that's a VERY good thing!!! I learned that after volunteering a couple of years ago for a breast cancer walk.

Nice job for your son. That is quite and accomplishment. I know I couldn't do a 50 mile walk - not right now anyway but maybe in a year or so.

And by the way - potatoes are NOT as bad as some other things - like pasta and rice. If you get a chance and want to really know how something is that you aren't sure about - check out www.calorieking.com. Someone told me about that site and we ended up getting a little pocket book at the bookstore. Also measuring is something that is very important if you can. The other thing you want to watch is eating potatoes and corn in the same meal - a lot of starch. I'm not much of a veggie eater so I eat quite a bit of corn and that is a HUGE downfall for me (but has a lot of fiber-type content if you know what I mean).

Keep rockin'!!!!

Thanks Jen, can I call you Forrest? :teeth:

Thanks Jamie, I think I've pretty much won the cola wars, yeah!! On to the exercise wars and the carb/calorie wars.

Cam, I love Drum and Bugle, I almost got going with one my senior year of high school, but it never took off. I played trumpet thru HS and 1st yr of college, still can play pretty well, for a few minutes anyway until my lips swell up. My uber-musician cousin and his daughter had borrowed my horn for the last 20 years or so :earseek: but I finally got it back for Andrew to start learning on, and I've played around with it some. One of the funnest things I've done was play baritone in a family band in the Provo 4th of July parade a few years ago. There was 16 of us I think, we rode on a big flatbed trailer pulled by a big pickup truck, we borrowed a drummer, and a couple of family singers, it was awesome. It was so fun to be in a parade playing and not have to march! :teeth: I played baritone on Sunday with my cousin on trombone, another super musician. We were just messing around playing some hymns out of the church hymnbook but he pushed me pretty hard, playing longer than I was used to. The right side of my lips swelled up and I had to switch to the left until they swelled up too, and I think i pulled a muscle under my jaw. Been hurting all week, but it was worth it, I need to get back into that.

Hi Cruise04, totally right about the 'ade's, I do see a bunch of Propel water in the breakroom fridge, haven't tried it yet, it may be ok, looks like 3 g of carbs per 8 oz serving, 16 oz bottle. Calorie King looks awesome, great information, just bookmarked it, thanks!!
No way I could do 50 miles in a week, maybe a month! and it was up at over 10,000 ft., down ravines and over passes. Very tough, maybe in a couple years if I REALLY get into shape.

So, last 2 days have been pretty blah, just too hot for anything. Only exercise was mowing the back lawn night before last. Last night I had to stay at work an extra hour, so got home late, late dinner, hot dogs and mac and cheese, DS5's favorite meal. Had salad and chili, no punch for me, it was Watermelon Kiwi, yuck! not tempted. I've been snacking a little too much, granola and a few Hersey's Nuggets, dang those are good! Got to get more serious about cutting the carbs, still need to make my breakfast casserole that I can reheat in the mornings. Not to toot my own horn, but since the wife was working extra hours yesterday, I cleaned the kitchen and dining room last night, even swept and mopped. I finished at about 1:20 am, just before she got off work, so she was happy about that. Bad thing is I didn't get the extra sleep that I wanted, I was even going to possibly call in sick this morning, but I woke up at 6:30 feeling ok, except the dumb jaw muscle, only about 4 1/2 hours of sleep, i'll probably be nodding off this afternoon at my desk.
Party at my house tomorrow night, wife's sister and her family are in town from Colorado for the weekend, all the girls are sleeping over at MIL and having a baby-shower for the youngest brother's wife, so all the boys are staying at our house, looks like the N64 and the computers will be getting a workout. This is the sister and family that we are closest to, even though they live 500 miles away, they're the ones that we were planning on the WDW trip together with. See this link for the saga of the trip, no recent developments, but maybe we'll have the chance to have a good talk about it with them this weekend. I SO want my wife to get excited about it again.

I'm feeling pretty confident at this point that we'll still go, just hoping to be able to buy the multi-day tickets, that's the real sticking point. Worst case we just go down for a week, at the very least I think we should do MVMCP, that's a good deal.
Have a good one everybody!!

Hi DisDon! Don't be fooled - cleaning the kitchen and mowing the lawn all count as exercise! Whenever you are moving, you are not (at least you shouldn't be) eating plus you are burning calories!

Keep it up, you accomplished a major thing by getting off the soda. Now pick something else you want to do (more consistent exercise, less carbs, etc). If you change one thing at a time, it is much easier to stick to. You can do it!

I hear ya about being too hot to do anything. The last 2 days have been 115 and today the forecast is 113. :sunny: I don't mind the heat too much, but it really can make you feel sluggish! And if you fall asleep at your desk today, that's OK because it will keep you out of the breakroom! ;)

Hey Don!

I think you need to add cleaning the kitchen and dining room to mowing the lawn as exercise yesterday! ::yes:: You definitely burned some calories there too!

I'm sending some :goodvibes , prayers and :wizard: your way for your trip to WDW. I read some of that thread that you posted in your last post and it got a bit off topic at times didn't it? :earseek: I loved your comment about a :wizard: smoothie! :rotfl: That was a good one, Don!!!! :teeth:

Have a great day today! :sunny:
