The Battle For My Wallet V: Beyond the Number IV (Chapter Eighteen, p.75, 5/18)

Yeah! A new ZZUB installment! We're so lucky to get one three weeks in a row! Now I'll go back and read! I just wanted to be first!

Okay, I'm done reading and I just don't know what to say. Another great chapter! Your ability to weave your love of Jesus and of Disney together like that is amazing! Thanks for another great read! DH and I just went on an adults only trip in December and are taking our girls back in October (with Buzz, you know). I am so looking forward to creating more memories with them!

Reading now.

ZZUB, Gawd forbid a million times you need to give Washer Lady back her green bra! I am sure you ruined her vacation... LOL~

Great update ZZUB~

I'm one of your most faithful lurkers, but this installment drew me out of the shadows. My husband and I left Port Orleans French Quarter this morning about 5, and I was just tickled to death to have not one but TWO Zzub installments waiting for me at home to ease the pain!

We sat at the Rose & Crown last night with some of the same thoughts you had as we watched Illuminations. I just can't express them as beautifully as you do. Thank you.

P.S. It was busy enough that we had to Fastpass Maelstrom. Yes, we really did.

I’ve got the greatest picture of her waiting her turn to see him. The look of anticipation on her face is not unlike the look I have when I’m standing in line at the Double D.
I know that look. The closest DD to me is 45 minutes away, so it is a big treat to make it there and get my donut fix.

I was wearing a Wilderness Lodge shirt and a ball cap with a tiny red Mickey Mouse on it. And of course, a pair of big boy shorts. I looked authoritative.
You have a Mickey Mouse keychain don't you?

“Which section should we ask for?”
“If y’all want to ride with us, I’ll just tell them we’re together and then they’ll seat us in the good seats.”
“Hey, that would be great.”

So when we got to the end, I told them we were 6 and we wanted to wait for Section B, first row.
Now this was incredibly nice of you. You're alright my friend!

And I thought these birds were funny:
I can hear those suckers right now.....I love those guys!

We had a great meal at Electric Umbrella
Seriously? That is good, our last meal there was rather crappy. The best thing about it was people watching from the second story window.

We saved our cups and used them for the rest of the day. Sure it was inconvenient to walk all the way back to the Electric Umbrella from China, but dadgummit, the drinks were free! When we came home I put them for sale on Ebay. Got $15 for one and $13.75 for the other.

I think the buyer was a Diser: the name LaLa looked vaguely familiar.
ded!

Remember: I had the hat, the shirt AND the big boy shorts: I looked like I knew something.
you are killing me!

If called upon, could Glenn properly unleash the power?
You aint right.

As we walked from the Boardwalk to Germany, we reminded ourselves it was only dinner and if Glenn and Lori turned into horrible people, we’d drop ‘em like stale donuts
I don't know....something tells me you would still eat a stale donut.

I stand at the edge of the lake with my little girl who’s no longer afraid of fireworks and with our good friends who love Jesus and love Disney too and I notice the lake is lined with thousands of people enjoying the show. And I’m aware that I’m not as strong as I think I am. For all of my so-called wit and alleged talent, I can’t do what God has done.

I doubt the creators of Illuminations had any of that in mind when they created the show. But when I watch it, I see the hand of God almighty separating the waters in the sea, speaking the world into existence. And creating me and you. Not on accident, mind you. But purposefully. We are fearfully and wonderfully made.

And yet, we are not as strong as we think we are.

Standing in the shadow of the final burst of fireworks, I am reminded that I am but a very small part of this incredible world God has created. Yet, even though I am but one man among billions of people, God knows my name and He loves me, too.

I don’t think anything happens by accident and I believe all good things are created by God. So I’m not so surprised as I listen to the post-show song, Promise, and find lyrics which suggest God’s hand is evident in places we don’t always expect to find it:

There is music
If you listen
In the rhythm of each breath we take
Destinations undiscovered
Revelations from every choice we make
And I know
There are diamonds dancing in the sky
All we have to do is open our eyes.

Beautiful.

It’s uncanny how the slightest breeze at the end of the night is such a welcome relief.
as long as it isn't downwind from you.

I truly enjoyed this chapter ZZUB! I didn't have to break out the Webster's, it seems you had more of a southern twang and you showed how good your heart is...even if you do put people on ignore.

From a born-and-bred New Englander: WICKED COOL INSTALLMENT!!!

I'd love to be able to quote and comment like Frickles but I'm overwhelmed. Where to begin?!!

I can relate to Zzuby's fascination with the Fountain....I love me some Fountain when it's performing to a musical score! :lovestruc

I also love me some Muppets and CANNOT believe you got to see the Mobile Muppet Labs...!!! For some reason I'm thinking I read here on the DIS that they're in some other Disney park right now and my chances of seeing them this September in Florida are pretty close to zilch...Which for me is quite sucky.

The laundry room: well, I must say that turned into quite an adventure, didn't it?!! I cannot for the life of me imagine myself speaking the word "bra" loudly enough for ANY one to hear, in a public laundry.... But I guess that's just me....:rolleyes1

Finally, I marvel at my Creator's handiwork too... And I've always marveled at the spectacle that is Illuminations. But now I will see it in a completely new light that will make it seem even more wonderful than before. Thank you for that!

Wicked awesome....:goodvibes

Chapter Fifteen: A Day in the Laundry, a Night in the World

Watching Illuminations is worship for me. I don’t mean I worship the show, the park in which it takes place or even the Earth it kind of celebrates. But watching Illuminations reminds me of how small I am in the much bigger universe in which I live. And if all creation bears witness to the Creator, then I reckon that includes created things, like Illuminations. I think about this Rich Mullins’ song, “it took the hand of God almighty to part the waters in the sea, but it only took one little lie to separate you and me, oh we are not as strong as we think we are.” I watch the symphony of fireworks, fire, lasers and music play out in front of me. And I am amazed. Awed. I’m reminded that the world God created for us is huge and complex and filled with His manifold blessings.

Including Walt Disney World.

Indeed.

Whether the diamonds dancing are the stars He placed in the sky or a well-crafted fireworks display He inspired, all creation bears witness to the Creator.

We met up with my wife and the baby and we walked out with our friends, laughing and talking. We stopped near the International Gate and let the kids run around. Run around and be kids. They had a time. It was still kind of warm and the pictures we took bear witness to how hot we were.

We said goodbye to our friends and walked back to the Boardwalk. We were feeling a little hungry so we stopped in the bakery for snacks. The incredible aroma that meets your nose when the door opens will make you hungry even if you weren’t already. But I’m ZZUB; it just made me hungrier. I picked up some treats and a couple bottles of water and my wife and I sat with the girls at a table on the Boardwalk and talked for a bit. About our day. About our night. About our friends and how good it was to see them.

It finally started cooling off a bit. There was a gentle wind blowing on the Boardwalk. It’s uncanny how the slightest breeze at the end of the night is such a welcome relief.

I love Illuminations, and quoting the lyrics just brought me back to all the times I've seen it and reflected on how we're all part of something larger than ourselves.

What a departure from skanky socks, huh?:lmao:

A great chapter, ZZUB! :)

I think it’s only right to again pause and consider how my view of EPCOT has evolved and changed over the last few years. And, as I stated previously, although there are still parts of EPCOT that under whelm me, there is much about it we have grown to love.
The same is true for me. Now, it is my second favorite park, and I still have not done most of it.

It’s amazing how perceptions change. Makes me wonder if two years from now we’ll all be talking about how brilliant George W. Bush is.
Never gonna happen.

I love me some Goofy!
That's what she said.

They were all about Universal Studios and their son who was, I think 10 or so, kept us entertained with talk about the Hulk and the Mummy and other rides that sounded “wicked cool.” Whatever that means.
I prefer wikked!!

623290e3.jpg
Now, that's just nice, right there.

Free Refills might as well be my nickname. ZZUB loves him some free refills.
Third person reference. Niiice.

“Daddy! It’s the fountain show! It’s the fountain show! Can we watch it?”
“Sure.”
One of the things I have STILL somehow managed to miss. It's on my list of must-dos for October.

It’s one of my favorite memories of any trip to Disney World.
And it was completely unplanned.
The best things in life are. So often we go full on comando, when we need to just be still and BE.

There then ensued an intense search of every machine: washer and dryer for the bra. With her eyebrow raised, washer lady asked basket lady if she’d seen it when she took her clothes out. Basket lady had not. I offered that I hadn’t seen it either. Not that I was looking for it. But I think I would have noticed a green bra.
Many years ago, I was a lifeguard. I was in the pool giving a swimming lesson and I notice a lady walking off with my towel, which had previously been hanging on the lifeguard stand. I said, "hey, Lady. That's my towel." She argued that it was hers. They didn't make only one, I spat back. We went round and round for a couple of minutes. She snatched her kids out of the pool and went home. Thereafter, I received a call from her apologizing. She found her towel at home, in the linen closet. I thought it was pretty big of her to call and tell me so.

The baby is a sure fire excuse. Not that we’ve ever used her that way.
Gawd forbid a million times.
I have. And still do. Saturday was the most recent example.

Mrs. Z and I have been married for either 13 or 14 years now depending on whether you believe the date printed in our wedding album or on the calendar I had made for Mrs. Z for Christmas.
That's so Mr. & Mrs. Smith. DED!

We are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Thy works are wonderful. I know that full well.
That has been a favorite of mine since my first pregnancy, when at only 8 weeks gestation, the doctor put the sonogram wand on my stomach and I could see the perfect outline of a tiny little human. I wish he had been ready with the picture button, it was amazing.

Another great chapter Zzub!

This killed me DED

It’s amazing how perceptions change. Makes me wonder if two years from now we’ll all be talking about how brilliant George W. Bush is.

Someone pick Ashclan up of the floor. Poor thing just fell over and hit her head.

I actually heard the "smack" as she went down. Ash is off to WDW this week so I'm sure she is more than recovered....

The Laundry story was priceless!

Been there, done that!

Thanks Zzub!

Great installment, ZZUB! Is it just me, or are these installments getting better and better as this TR goes along?

Truthfully, we weren’t that hot.

DED.

making less money per hour than my wife pays for a decaf chai soy latte.

Say it ain't so! Decaf? Chai? (How do you pronounce that, by the way...rednecks like me don't have a clue.) Soy?

I'm saddest ever.

And Mrs. Z wondered where she could score a decaf chai soy latte.

And again I say! !!!

My clothes had finished drying but I hated to miss what was coming next. So I folded them. S L O W L Y. There then ensued an intense search of every machine: washer and dryer for the bra. This KILLS me! I don't know what's funnier, the thought of this interaction between washer lady and basket lady, or the thought of you wasting time in a laundry room to see The Mystery of the Disappearing Green Bra solved. Did anyone call in Scooby and the gang?

Far-eaky borg here, ZZUB. I completely and totally agree with you, and there's no way I could have stated it as eloquently. The NMs are Illuminations people, too. Even our children, who are still completely into rides, characters and Mickey bars, appreciate the beauty of Illuminations. It is a good thing. And as we're reminded in Scripture, every good and perfect gift is from above.

I wouldn't call Illuminations perfect, but standing around the World Showcase lagoon, listening to that beautiful music, and watching not only the show, but the awe in the faces of those around me, is about as close to perfect as I'll get until Heaven.

Thanks for a wonderful installment to brighten my Monday morning. It might have made me tear up a little bit. In a good way.

Thanks, friend.

Go ahead and credit my PayPal account and get ready for some HARSH feedback! Because not only were the cups NOT "Year of a Million Dreams Refillable mugs" (talk about stretching the truth!) as advertised, but there were teeth marks and lipstick stains all over those flimsy jokers. That I could maybe look past. The balled up sock and hair in the box they were delivered in, not so much. We did enjoy the can of generic green beans though. So that was something.

I’ll just tell them we’re together and then they’ll seat us in the good seats.”
“Hey, that would be great.”

That was a nice thing to do. You're allright, ZZUB. When you're not scamming innocent people on ebay.

About a year and a half ago, I found the music for one of the six fountain shows and downloaded it. ZZUBY likes it a lot and before she discovered the music to Pirates (a movie she’s never seen), she liked this music the best. It was a big deal for her to get to sit and watch the fountains dancing to the music she’d heard in her Daddy’s car so many times before.

We sat in the shade on the little wall in front of Innoventions. We ate ice-cream and watched the water fly and splash and dance to music which tickled our ears.

It’s one of my favorite memories of any trip to Disney World.

And it was completely unplanned.

Isn't that the way it usually goes? I love the mental image of this moment. Watching the fountain dance and listening to the AWESOME music that accompanies it just screams "fun day in Epcot" to us. Sigh.

Then basket lady came back. And I just knew there was gonna be a cat fight. My money was on basket lady. She looked like she could throw down. But there was mostly just a lot of fake niceties. When washer lady left, basket lady asked me if she’d said anything. And I wondered where Potsie and Ralph Malph were. I played it down because there was no point in telling her how huffed up she was. But then washer lady came back in because her bra was missing.

My clothes had finished drying but I hated to miss what was coming next. So I folded them. S L O W L Y. There then ensued an intense search of every machine: washer and dryer for the bra. With her eyebrow raised, washer lady asked basket lady if she’d seen it when she took her clothes out. Basket lady had not. I offered that I hadn’t seen it either. Not that I was looking for it. But I think I would have noticed a green bra.

She put her clothes in a couple of dryers and stood around this time.

Basket lady also wasn’t leaving.

Then another lady showed up to get her stuff out of the dryer.

I unfolded and re-folded my clothes.

Basket lady’s husband/boyfriend/father? came in. She told him her green bra was missing. She didn’t whisper.

“Which bra?” he asked.

”The GREEN one!” she spit back at him. How could he not know which one she meant?! “I know it was in with my clothes but I can’t find it now. Maybe it fell behind the machine when that lady moved my stuff.”

“That lady” was in a conversation with the twins’ mom, but she heard washer lady. She snickered.

Who’s the twins’ mom? She’s the lady who came in to get her clothes out of the dryer. She had twins. And they were up at 6:00 am running around her room. And the neighbors didn’t care for it. So they banged on the door separating their room and asked them to keep it down.

She was a nice lady and I really did want to sympathize with her, but I think you’ve got to keep your kids quiet before 7 and after 11 at Disney World. So I found a nice way of saying I agree it’s hard to keep little ones quiet. I suggested they might do better in a non-adjoining room.

Meanwhile, washer lady’s search for her green bra continued unabated. I caught her eyeing the clothes I was folding. Eventually she gave up and took her clothes back up to her room where, one imagines, she discovered her green bra hanging over the shower curtain.

I don't normally quote long passages, but THIS could not be broken up. ZZUB, I haven't laughed that hard since the deal you wrote about getting your wife's wheelchair out of MK and onto the boat dock after Wishes. I can completely see the bra debacle play out in my head and I'm DED! That was some funny writing there, my friend. Mad props. Whatever that means.

I don’t think anything happens by accident and I believe all good things are created by God. So I’m not so surprised as I listen to the post-show song, Promise, and find lyrics which suggest God’s hand is evident in places we don’t always expect to find it:

So true. I loved that. ZZUB, you have a way of expressing thoughts so eloquently that so many of us have. But I'm still upset about the filth in the box.

It was still kind of warm and the pictures we took bear witness to how hot we were.

I have no doubt they do.

It’s uncanny how the slightest breeze at the end of the night is such a welcome relief.

I'm sure your wife begs to differ. Especially on Taco Night at the ZZUBs'.

Loved this installment, ZZUB. I'm glad your night with your friends turned out to be a good time with a great view of Illuminations. I haven't been able to stop singing the theme song it in my head since we returned the other day. So coming here and reading the lyrics and "hearing" about your night was a nice little pick me up on an otherwise dreary back to work again Monday morning. Thanks for that.

Chapter Fifteen: A Day in the Laundry, a Night in the World

It’s amazing how perceptions change. Makes me wonder if two years from now we’ll all be talking about how brilliant George W. Bush is.

About the same time we all agree that Britney Spears made some brilliant life choices.

As I was standing with my camera taking pictures of my wife and girls with Pluto, Goof came up behind me and stuck his big ol’ face next to mine. So I snapped a picture of the two of us.

So looking at the picture, would we be able to tell who is who?

My clothes had finished drying but I hated to miss what was coming next. So I folded them. S L O W L Y. There then ensued an intense search of every machine: washer and dryer for the bra. With her eyebrow raised, washer lady asked basket lady if she’d seen it when she took her clothes out. Basket lady had not. I offered that I hadn’t seen it either. Not that I was looking for it. But I think I would have noticed a green bra.

Or so you say.

I loved the food at Biergarten. LOVED IT! Mrs. Z pretty well hated it though. She’s not as big on German food.

I think the food at Biergarten was great, especially with some Spaten. I hear there's a certain Canadian that fancies her some wiener salad there too, but that was a long time ago.

Lori had scored us a prime location. P R I M E! It was so good, I won’t tell anyone where it was for fear it becomes THE place. But when Glenn and I wheeled up with the kids and I saw the location, I said in my big voice, “Lori Mc*****, you know you some EPCOT!” If I had any doubts that they were good Disney people before, once I saw the location she scored, I knew they were our kind of people.

That would be where the smoke blocks your view, right?

This sounds like a perfect day at Epcot.:)

How cool that ZZuby found a new favorite with Test Track and that your friends are Disney-Cool:thumbsup2 .

The whole laundry room ordeal made me laugh. :lmao:

I hope Mrs. Z didn't eat a lot of sauerkraut/sauage in Germany, that is an automatic fuzzy britches at our house. I feel for Mrs. Z not getting too many bites at the Octoberfest, I just had my first full meal in 13 months last week.

Thanks for sharing your inter dialouge on the Illuminations Show. I am having to dig deep this week to find the strength and courage that I always pray for and he always provides... in unexpected ways like perhaps a post of the DISBOARD.

This chapter was Pure Puddin!

I was over on the resorts board this morning... someone posted this picture of her outfit that she was going to wear to the PPP as Princess Jasmyn until someone stole it from the Fort's Laundry Room. Now she is looking for a lawyer to help her get a refund......

costume79.jpg

A great chapter.

I'm always afraid to even suggest Disney World to friends as I know they'll just muck it up. You have to work at Disney. It's not a trip to Hawaii. You have to research, wake up early, stay out late, walk 100 miles, and fight crowds. Disney people are... well... different.

That's why we hang out here.

Germany rox. I love the food. I lived in Nuremburg, Germany for two years. Schnitzel rules!

No Vote Pedro shirt this year? popcorn::

We always drive to Epcot. It's just easier. Plus, when you get there early enough, you park right up front so the walk is easy. Not like MGM or whatevah they call that thing now... AK is a long walk also.

You and your refills.

I think if you go in with realistic expectations and are prepared for some time apart, it can work. Our time with Glenn and Lori was limited only to a few hours which made it easier to accomodate. It was far less stressful than having someone with you for three long days.

I'm one of your most faithful lurkers, but this installment drew me out of the shadows. My husband and I left Port Orleans French Quarter this morning about 5, and I was just tickled to death to have not one but TWO Zzub installments waiting for me at home to ease the pain!
I can't believe you just left there and you're already home. And reading drivel on the Dis no less.

But this:
It was busy enough that we had to Fastpass Maelstrom. Yes, we really did
is just unforgiveable. You don't needto fastpass Maelstrom. If the line is longer than a 0 minute wait, you walk on! You are now on indefinite ignore!

F****** said:
I don't know....something tells me you would still eat a stale donut.
You got that right. That's why we have a microwave.

The laundry room: well, I must say that turned into quite an adventure, didn't it?!!
It's amazing how the simplest task turns into a full blown comedy adventure in my life. I'm no longer amazed when people in line unburden themselves to me or when people in a laundry go slightly insane. It's part of the joy of living in the big boy shorts.

Finally, I marvel at my Creator's handiwork too... And I've always marveled at the spectacle that is Illuminations.
It's a fantastic show, isn't it?

What a departure from skanky socks, huh?
A bucket of day old vomit would be a departure from skanky socks.

That's what she said.
Well done, Mr. Scott.

That's a great example!

I actually heard the "smack" as she went down.
We could feel the seismic shift. Who knew Ash's head was so heavy?

Great installment, ZZUB! Is it just me, or are these installments getting better and better as this TR goes along?
It's just you.

Say it ain't so! Decaf? Chai?
I'm not a fan of them either, but they taste like pumpkin pie which is good in my book.

This KILLS me! I don't know what's funnier, the thought of this interaction between washer lady and basket lady, or the thought of you wasting time in a laundry room to see The Mystery of the Disappearing Green Bra solved.
ZZUB don't leave when a comedy is unfolding. Pun intended.

Isn't that the way it usually goes? I love the mental image of this moment. Watching the fountain dance and listening to the AWESOME music that accompanies it just screams "fun day in Epcot" to us. Sigh.
I have a great picture of ZZUBY just watching the water. I think quiet moments like that are just as fun as the big screams on TT or watching Illuminations.

Even though I don't like you, and never have, I do hope you'll be writing a TR about your recent adventure in Orlando.

So looking at the picture, would we be able to tell who is who?
Sadly, no.

:moped:

k actually had work to do this morning and wasn't able to read this until a few minutes ago even though I had seen that you had posted and it was killing me. It was GREAT! Thanks for writing this TR. Good to hear your reaction on Biergarten too because we made our first ressie there for Sept.

The muppets pic was so cool. My 2 year (18 months at the time) loved the muppet show even without the 3-D glasses he was cracking up.

We are going to have to give Epcot more of a chance the next time we go :thumbsup2

You know, of course, what my first quote is going to be......

It’s amazing how perceptions change. Makes me wonder if two years from now we’ll all be talking about how brilliant George W. Bush is.

Someone pick Ashclan up of the floor. Poor thing just fell over and hit her head.

Even worse than that was the ZZUBing all over my desk before collapsing. Our day porter thanks you.

A break day, for those of you who are not ZZUBs, is a day when you take a break.

The collective "duh" is deafening.

'sokay. I can't hear much of anything after that fall, anyway.

ZZUBY loves her some Goofy, too. I’ve got the greatest picture of her waiting her turn to see him. The look of anticipation on her face is not unlike the look I have when I’m standing in line at the Double D.

Really? Have they started selling Yoo Hoo and Poptarts there?

They were all about Universal Studios and their son who was, I think 10 or so, kept us entertained with talk about the Hulk and the Mummy and other rides that sounded “wicked cool.” Whatever that means.

I'd wager it means they're from my neck of the woods.

I felt as old as John McCain looks.

And sounds. And, let's be honest, IS.

I thought it was wicked cool, but ZZUBY, whose never seen the Muppets, thought it was totally lame.

Sounds like coasts colliding. Like, totally.

It’s one of my favorite memories of any trip to Disney World.

And it was completely unplanned.

ALWAYS works that way, doesn't it?

Then we showered and got cleaned up for dinner in EPCOT. We were meeting some friends in the Biergarten.

I'm hoping you had some deviled eggs and wiener salad.

This was a long one! Thanks, Z. Though I maybe coulda done without the episode of The Laundry Room of Peyton Place. Green bra. Oh please
