whether we'll "stoop" to bagging our own groceries
I just find it all rather funny.
Im a "stooper" LOL I would rather do it my way since if you want it done right you have to do it yourself :rotfl:

I too find it funny and interesting to see other peoples views on "Grocery Store Etiquette"

I also like to have all the refrigerated items together and so on - like items like pet food, cleaning items I also like to keep together, but I am crazy and OCD and I know it.

It's not OCD. Who wants the Comet container to spill all over the ice cream? :crazy2:

I thought this was about people drinking alcohol in the grocery store.

Now see.. what you should have done was started throwing his stuff in your bags and yelled "Woohoo! Jackpot! I stuck my money in the machine and all this free food started trucking on down the conveyor belt!"

Nothing worse than assault with a deadly waffle. :sad2:

:rotfl: Thankfully, I wasn't drinking my water when I read this.

I place the bar after my food, if someone is in back of me. If someone comes along, I then put it between our goods. It's the only polite thing to do!

That's right! I ask all the time they bag the groceries lightly. I hate it when they stick a bunch of stuff in those cheap plastic bags that like to break and OTOH I dont mind making several trips to bring them in.

See that doesnt work with my dh. He will wait til he receives "offical" confirmation that there are indeed more groceries in the car. We have 7 ppl that live in our house, this includes 3 teenage boys!!. I have never gone to the grocery store where I only had 1 batch of bags to bring in!! :confused3

3 teenage boys? does the food even make it to the kitchen? heheheh

I thought about this thread yesterday when i was at the grocery store.

This guy in front of my boyfriend wouldn't take anything out of his cart. So we couldn't put anything down. he would take the stuff out of the cart and hand it to the cashier. I kept telling BF to just put his stuff down and put the bar in front, but he was too chicken.

Didn't matter anyway because the guy had issues with his coupons. He had about 10 bags of Lays chips and coupons for Wise. So then he didn't want any of then. Then there were issues with his 15 containers of Lysol wipes. What a fiasco. I was able to escape the line, but my BF got stuck there.

The guy was so nasty to the cashier and the head cashier was nasty back to him and he said something abotu never coming back to the store again and she was like "Good, we don't want your business" lol!

What does someone need with 15 containers of Lysol wipes?

I want to go shopping with you!!! I also have that need to put similar items together, (frozen foods, toiletries, etc.).

And I'm still laughing to myself about your "would it kill you to wait until I was done?" comment. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I can't go shopping with DH because he just tosses stuff into the cart - drives me bananas. I have to have the stuff put in orderly. Yes, it is a problem and I AM nuts, but at least I admit to it! :rotfl2:

I came home that day telling DH about the would it kill you incident and he laughed and laughed - eventually I laughed too, but at that moment I was so mad!

Okay.....I have to ask this question....is North Carolina the ONLY state where the cashiers remove the food items from the shopping cart for you?

This fascinates me. I don't know why...it just does. I've lived here ALL my life, so when I visit my in-laws in Michigan I'm amazed that NONE of the grocery stores have the cashiers removing the items from the cart, you have to put it all in and then get it all back out.

I think that is just at the Harris Teeter, not sure though. The checkout aisles are set up such that the end of the cart opens and the checker removes the things and checks them in one motion. It is a nice thing though. And come to think of it I haven't seen that outside of NC either.

I kind of take this to the next level...not only do I have frozen food or cleaning products together, I put all the boxed goods together as well as all the cans! Can't have these things 'mingling'. God only knows what would come out of the bag at the end! :jumping1:

When I am loading the cart, I think of it as a version of Tetris - grouping and putting things in an orderly manner.

They do it at Harris Teeter in SC too. At least here in Charleston they do

I told her I was sorry but the crackers weren't moving down the conveyor belt. I really wanted to tell her that I PREFERRED she took the responsibility to see that her own food was going where it should go, and that I wasn't 'playing' with her crackers, whatever that means.

Ohmygod. This is too funny. ROFL!!! :rotfl2: This whole scenario sounds like something that would happen to me. I'm just glad it is not me this time.

Anyway. I almost never put the bar behind my order. Most of the time there is no bar. So, I don't even bother looking for one. I just do like most people and leave an obvious space between our orders.

I've been paying attention to this whole bar thing since this thread started. When I was at the grocery store on Saturday, the person in front of me did not put the bar down so I did. What was kind of funny is that there was a gap between her groceries and mine (and I really didn't even need to use the bar in hindsight), but after I put the bar down she scooted it way up so I'd have plenty of space to put my things. I put my things as far up as possible , but it was almost as if she felt bad for not putting the bar down and was trying to make ammends. :rotfl:

I put my stuff on the belt and then put down the bar in back of me. The person behind me put her stuff down and then put the bar down in back of her order. I had to leave, though, and couldn't spend the rest of the night looking at grocery store bars. :teeth:

Next time I'm at the store I'll ask the cashier if most people put the bars behind their groceries. :)

Used to be this way at at least some of the Houston area stores when we lived there. I was in shock when we moved here and I not only had to unload my groceries from the cart, but I was not allowed to bring the cart to the car--we had to drive up for the cart full of groceries. Of course a time or 2 I forgot my groceries that were sitting outside the store and drove home. :rotfl: They've since changed that at the stores here and there are cart corrals to put the carts in. Much better, especially when bringing young children to the store.
