The Ballistics MATCH!!!!!

It's clear that there was CONSIDERABLE friction under the surface between members of the combined task force. Such competing interests certainly were NOT helpful in solving this terrible crime.

Show me evidence of this, please? Otherwise, this is just your opinion.

All the agencies involved get a big "thumbs up" from me! This could have dragged on much longer were it not for their overwhelming dedication..

Thank goodness it's over!!! :)

It IS my opinion, bsnyder, but it was also reported as such on both FOX and CNN...........

Moose has shown frustration at leaks and public statements from other jurisdictions.

Privately, Montgomery police blame Prince George's police for leaking details about a mysterious, taunting tarot card that appeared to have been left by the killer near the site of his Oct. 7 shooting at a Bowie school.

Moose also appeared unhappy that Virginia police had reported that a van being sought in Monday's slaying had a burned-out tail light. "Now that that information is in the public arena," Moose said, "one does have the capacity to go buy a light bulb and no longer have that light be out."

That doesn't exactly meet my definition of CONSIDERABLE friction, but that's just MY opinion....:) ;) :) ;)

Thank God they caught these people! Peace to the DC area tonite. Gee -- I wonder which major network will get the rights to the Made for TV Movie?:D

FOX news and their questionable journalism aside, even if this were true, how do you feel this hindered the investigation, EROS? The goal was to catch the sniper, and it appears that Chief Moose and his task force did just that.

We here inside the beltway are thinking of Chief Moose as a hero. Yesterday, people were afraid to leave their homes, businesses were dying, travel and entertainment had come to a virtual stand-still. Today we have our lives back. I can only view the investigation as a win for all us, and hopefully the result will provide some relief to the victim's families.

I blame the media for all the friction, they can't wait to start trouble, reminds me of someone I work with.
Most serial killers are caught at least a year later or never so if you view it that way I think they did a pretty good job.

SNOOPY, I'm thankful that everyone in D.C, Virginia, and Maryland can say that their collective nightmare is over. However, I'm not sure that the task force's work brought the terror to a conclusion; it appeared that law enforcement was still floundering until the suspects provided breaks in the case.

Everyone take some PD (prozac dust) please. Can't we just be thankful that this nightmare is over?

If you really must argue about if law enforcement did their job and was there friction between jurisdictions, take it to the debate board, please.

I'm sorry, but I am TIRED of things we should be thankful for turning into a debate.

I'm not offering a debate, only my OWN opinion, which usually is dismissed around here anyway :D :D :D .

Of course, there will always be Americans who feel that the CIA, FBI, and INS were "at their best" before 9-11:rolleyes:   .

There will be others who will feel that the multi-jurisdictional task force could not have done any better while 10 people were murdered over 20 days and millions felt terrorized in their homes, schools, and businesses.

EROS, I don't dismiss your opinion. I just think that if you want to go into how correct the police actions were (or not), that topic does not belong on this thread, it belongs on the debate board.

LOL, iluvorlando:D . I guess that the "right" kinds of opinions are the only ones which are welcomed on these types of threads:jester: :jester: :jester: .......

Hey, Eros, you don't really know my opinon. I am just thankful that this is over. There will ALWAYS be questions in any law enforcement activity if they acted appropriately, and did they get along multijurisdictionally. But until your DW puts her life on the line 24/7 like my DH does, please don't assume. And I am not saying that the "correct" opinon is accepted. I just don't want a thread that should be uplifting to those who suffered to be dragged down by conflict. There has been enough of that, don't you agree?

As far as I'm concerned, and from what little we know right now, it is obvious to *me* that the Moose and his team were on top of things to even catch the "Montgomery" reference made by the sniper.

How many people listening to that comment would have said "Well sure we take him seriously in Montgomery", and dismissed it as referring to Montgomery County MD rather than Montgomery, AL? The task force was quick to say "Hey, let's look at OTHER Montgomerys, just in case".

Plenty of people would have missed that clue.

Some people just love to find the dark cloud in every silver lining, don't they?

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -

A law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity, outlined developments that led to the arrests:

On Thursday, Oct. 17, a Montgomery County, Md., public information officer received a call from someone they now believe was the sniper. The caller referred to a robbery-homicide in "Montgomery" - not, in itself, enough to prompt authorities to call police in that Alabama city.

The next day, a priest received a call from someone who mentioned a crime in Montgomery, Ala. It's unclear whether the caller referred to the sniper killings, but the conversation prompted the priest to call the hotline. Authorities put the two calls together.

My personal feeling is that there will be plenty of time to figure out what went right and what went wrong in the investigation in the coming weeks. . .

Tonight I'd just like to give everyone in the area that lived through this ordeal a big hug, and say how happy I am it's finally over. . it's a night to celebrate life. . :) :) :)

Good news to hear coming from an area so beleagured in past weeks with such a real danger. God bless, it is over.

And I very much agree, Bet and others, that it would be good to let professionals, in whatever line of work they are involved in, to handle those entrusted to them with the diligence they are entitled to. It seems like the overall efforts, diligently and with order, were resultant in the end with the capture of the apparent criminals in this month long scourge. Thank God it seems to be over.

I just don't understand what point you are trying to make, Eros. So the cops got clues from the killer and acted on those clues. Quiet killers are far more likely to evade capture, true. The cops are then left with finding a needle in a haystack.

But in this case it didn't work out that way, thank God. The killers started communicating with the cops, and the cops put a swift end to this madness. I fail to see how the investigation was anything but a success.

As far as the media clips you've posted here, they are nothing more to me than newspapers trying to fill up a 1/4 inch space. As the wife of a law enforcement officer, I can tell you half of what was printed in this case about dissention between the differing agencies is bogus. Not a surprise to me though, I've lived in Washington long enough to know the media is rabid.
