The Bahamian Rum Runners! May 18, 2012 - 5 Nights on the Magic!

My Mother-in-Law and I are doing it. You meet up before everyone goes ashore. They have a nice set up with a clock and small little "medal". Worth doing and it doesn't really hurt the day.

I had planned on doing it but totally fell off the running wagon. :(

Hoping I can get myself motivated again and work towards doing it.

Will you be walking? Running? Jogging? Combination?

BTW - everyone TWO MONTHS FROM TODAY!!!!!

:banana::thumbsup2:cool1::love::woohoo::yay: :dance3::cheer2:pirate:

Hello fellow cruisers! I'm so glad to finally have time to come on this thread and chat with you all. I felt really bad that I was able to start this thread but not keep up with it, but I read through every page the other day, in order to get myself more aquainted with everyone!

I feel like I should do a little introduction since I really haven't been on here since I started the thread almost a year ago! My name is Trina (does the screen name give it away?) and this will be my first cruise. I am cruising with my boyfriend (Bryan) and his family (mother, father, brother, brother's gf, and his aunt). His mom and dad have cruised with disney before, and his aunt has worked for disney for 30 years and used to work as a DVC rep on one of the ships.

I am 25 and my boyfriend is 23, we've been dating for 4 years and this is our third disney trip together. We are doing 5 days at Old Key West after the cruise. This will be my 25th trip to Disney. (I know I'm spoiled). I feel like I am more of a Disney expert than a cruise expert so this is a little nerve wracking for me!

I don't believe we have any excursions planned, mostly because of lack of money. I really wanted to go snorkeling, but my boyfriend has a major fear of fish and REFUSES to go with me, and I have yet to hear back from his family members as to whether anyone else would be interested. I've done discovery cove so I feel like the dolphin and sting rays would be a waste of money since I've experienced it, and also I studied marine biology for awhile and worked with dolphins and all sorts of other things.

It has been a hectic semester, so a lot of this trip isn't being planned, but I guess that's ok on a cruise...I'm still very excited but VERY nervous about getting sea sick.

I also recently found out that I am lactose intolerant, so I am a bit worried about that, but find that lactaid pills work very well for me. I am on vacation in Tennessee right now and have been able to eat most things without getting sick.

I am interested in doing the fish exchange, it will be just me and my boyfriend, and I apologize in advance that due to budget constraints (ie two VERY broke college students) our gifts will be small but I would still love to participate. I don't know our room number yet, but I sent an email out to boyfriend's dad and hope to hear back soon. Also, where is everyone getting there Fish extenders? I have no time or crafty ability to sew one!

Look foward to getting to know you all! (And I mean it this time!)

Hey Trina. :) Nice to "meet" you.

We will be at OKW right after the cruise as well. Have you stayed there before? It will be our first stay there and I am really excited about it.

Don't worry about the poor college student thing. Both of our DD's are in college and my husband is working on his PhD. We totally get that! ;)

Can't believe how fast the time seems to be going now - less than two months :D

You're alive! Haha just kidding. Who cares about the gifts? It's the thought that counts, and the opportunity to meet new friends! Glad you're back! :thumbsup2

I totally agree. Fish Extenders are about the little surprise you get when you get back to your room and there's something there for you. The kids just love it. Its NOT about the cost at all.

I think we can all agree, this DIS group doesn't seem "fussy" at all.

I suspect we're all on a budget, especially with the FE gifts. As said by JMTStone and Prozac07, its not the value of the gift but the little surprises you find from your new friends when you get back to your stateroom.

I think some of us have gotten our FE from ebay or etsy. Just type in Fish Extender and you'll get lots of hits. DW and I have an FE from gradysmommy on ebay but my two college aged kids are coming along this time and I suspect their FE will be very homemade and easy to make at that. On my last cruise I saw a small totebag (about 8" square) which seemed to work just fine.

Speaking of OKW, we have been many times, this is part of the reason we chose this itinerary. Key West is our all time favorite. We can give you restaurant, bar, and shopping ideas. You can rent an electric golf cart type vehicle and zip along the entire area. Be sure to make the cemetery part of your stop. Does this sound creepy!

Welcome back Trina! I also love to snorkel and DH and I used to do snorkeling excursions during every vacation up until we had these adorable little people in our lives who are still too young to be interested or comfortable with snorkeling. However, we have snorkeled in Key West several times, and you can do that on your own and probably find a 3 hour tour for much less $$ than those run by DCL. They take you out on a Catamaran and its usually a really enjoyable trip. Another option that I've done a lot of recently is just to bring my own snorkel and mask with me to Castaway Cay (and any other beach you visit) and do my own snorkeling. You can swim out from the beach and see lots of fish in the water. There is a special place on Castaway Cay that is set up for snorkeling and it has a couple of surprises underwater. If you don't have a mask and snorkel, you can rent them on Castaway Cay also.

Have a good rest of your semester and we look forward to meeting you in person in less than 2 months. :yay:

Ok, I got our cabin number, it is #7508 so you can officially add us to to the FE list.

What do you guys think about doing a question of the day here? I dont know if people would have time to answer it but it might be fun..I'd be willing to post one if there's any interest.

We are already renting and electric car and I really want to see the lighthouse. The cemetery... not creepy at all - well kinda but I am a weirdo anyway. ;)
<~~~~~see.... even the tag fairy thinks so.

I LOVE to take photos at old cemeterys - where is it?

Ya mean like a general getting to know you kinda question? I think that sounds like fun.

Take Duval St thru town until you get to Olivia St. and make a left. It is about 8-10 blocks away once you turn on Olivia. It will be on your left.

Thanks. :) I am going to write that down so I don't forget.

Yeah getting to you know questions, disney questions, stuff like that. Stuff to pass the time till we sail away! We do it on a couple other threads I'm on and its fun. I will try it out tomorrow and see if anyone is interested.

I'm trying to decide between a one piece or two piece bathing suit for the cruise...I really want both but they are $90 each so that is so not happening! I've lost 30 lbs in the past year because of this cruise but I don't know if I feel comfortable enough yet to be in a bikini! Tough decisions..

I haven't lost much weight, but my midsection isn't the flattest. I've always worn bikinis, but I went to Marshalls the other day and found a cute 1-piece and a tankini that basically was long enough to look like a 1 piece. I was shopping alone, so I sent pics to my hubby to see what he thought. He responded back, and I quote, "They look like something my mom would wear. If you wear a one piece I'm getting the smallest Speedo I can find." :scared1:

To spare you all of that, I got a bikini and am doing my Zumba every day, lol!

Here I'll start the Question o' the Day...
What's your favorite Disney Memory? :earsboy::earsgirl:

FAVORITE DISNEY MEMORY

For my DH it was about 15 years ago when our DS1 was a teenager. We were at Blizzard Beach and they rode Summit Plummet 13 times in a row.

For myself it was two years ago when we took Landon to the Pirates League at Magic Kingdom and we all had our faces painted. That night we got dressed up and went to the Pirate Dinner Show in Orlando.

Disney World has always had special place in our hearts for us and our children and now our grandchildren. We usually went to the Nascar race in Daytona then headed to Disney World afterward. :yay:

I'm a big fan of Disney villains. I used to get the t-shirts back when they were available: Captain Hook, Jafar, Ursula, etc.

Some 10 or 12 years ago, I wore a t-shirt with Jafar on the front when we went to (now) Hollywood Studios where we had a character breakfast. As luck would have it, the characters that day were from Aladdin.

At one point Jafar came over to our table (I'm assuming he was told by someone about my shirt) and pointed at me and then gave me a thumbs up :thumbsup2.

He visited our table multiple times or would seek me out as I was getting more food, sometimes bringing along someone (character or tourist) to show them my shirt. He would point to me, point to himself, back to me and so on - clearly indicating that at least one person in the world liked him. :cool1: A few times when we posed for pictures together he gave me his staff to hold.

DW said I probably made his day, perhaps more than he made mine. My kids thought it was funny that Jafar kept visiting our table, but they got to meet lots of the characters as Jafar kept bringing them to the table.

Ok so I'm quoting myself, that's lame, but...

In 2010 we went down for the Penn State Capitol One Bowl game, and decided to stay in Disney while in Orlando. It was a thrown-together trip, but we had a blast... and during the New Years' fireworks at MK I got the best gift ever!

Jason couldn't get down on one knee... he would have easily been killed by a stroller or wheelchair, since it was New Year's Eve. A wonderful cast member took this for me (after I shoved the camera in his face) to capture the moment, stupid plastic hat and all.

In 2011, after deciding not to get married here in Myrtle, we went back for our Disney Fairy Tale Wedding and 10-day honeymoon!

Sounds like the absolute best memory of all! Congratulations!
