The Bahamian Rum Runners! May 18, 2012 - 5 Nights on the Magic!

MagicFan75, our grandson is very outgoing and loves to play. His brother is only 1 1/2 and cousin is a newborn, so he currently doesn't have a lot of playmates. He would love a buddy.

Another one bringing a 5 year old starting Kindergarten in the fall... they can have little fun group! :)

I need an intervention.

I am a few pairs of shorts away from an entire new summer wardrobe. I have purchased new undies, tops, sundresses, a nice dress for semi-formal night and our Palo dinner. I have purchased shoes, swimwear, earrings, necklace (and I never wear jewelry with the exception of my rings). I have new luggage for all three females in my family.

This is sooo totally NOT like me. I am not a huge fan of clothes. Wait - that didn't sound right. :scared1:

:rotfl2:

OK - let me try that again. I hate shoes and clothes really do not excite me. I would rather wear my clothes until they are no longer in any condition for anyone to see me in them and spend money on a new camera body, lenses, props, backdrops.. anything photography or for my photography business.

However.. every time we start getting close to vacation some switch flips in my head and I NEED new clothes. Once vacation is over - forget it - I hate shopping... which is why my fall and winter clothes are pretty much cheap t-shirts and a few pairs of jeans - and shoes for when I HAVE to wear them - because I really do hate shoes - but tonight.. I not only bought shoes, but I bought HEELS!

I also started buying clothes for our girls tonight as well.. someone stop me or I won't be able to afford any delicious adult beverages with all of you. I will be sitting there sipping all of the FE bottles of rum that I have secretly stolen from everyone's fish extenders when you weren't looking. :rotfl:

Sounds like DW. Every time we go on a vacation she buys more clothes and/or luggage.

I will admit that I did buy a new DCL aloha shirt for this cruise. I like to wear aloha shirts when in the Caribbean or Hawaii so when I saw this shirt I just had to have it.

I also bought a new swimsuit a couple of days ago as I've heard that skinny dipping in the pools is frowned upon.

You guys are too much!!! I can't wait to meet you :yay:

I, too am guilty of prescruise shopping. As a matter of fact, I am going tomorrow. I have bought my bathing suit, and a suit for my son and daughter. I am trying to hold off from the big cruise wear shopping trip until May- I am newly addicted to running and a great deal of my money has recently gone to 3 race registrations and new shoes.

I'm really excited that we got Palo for our first night- that's my DH and I's anniversary. :cheer2: 10 years-

How many days left?

So glad to hear the shopping bug didn't hit only me!! I hate shopping (basically because I hate spending money...) but I just can't seem to stop when it comes to the cruise!! Being our first one, I feel like I need to over prepare... my mom laughs because it seems on a daily basis I find something and go "OOOOOO!! I could take that on the cruise!!!!" and she claims we'll need to pull a u-haul behind the ship just to carry what all I'm planning on bringing.... :rotfl:

And I'm right behind you with the whole shoes thing... HATE shoes, HATE HATE socks... don't really mind flip flops though... but I read your not supposed to wear them to eat in.. which has made me feel :scared1:

I hardly ever wear dresses, but so far I've bought 3 and keep looking for more :confused3 LOL I don't wear much jewelry except earrings and my rings (i feel totally naked without both) but I keep finding necklaces, earrings, etc that would be so cute.. plus I'm hoping to find some at the disney store in DTD before the cruise (that sounds kinda sad that I'm hoping/planning to spend on mickey mouse earrings this far in advance, and i'm excited about it! LOL)

i'm tempted to buy an underwater camera.. and then i thought i should also buy a smaller lighter camera because mine gets really heavy after toting it around all day, but i would still want to take my heavy one.. and of course the chargers, cards, etc... so i'd need a suitcase just for electronics.. a suitcase just for FE gifts.. about 3 suitcases for my clothes/shoes.. an empty suitcase for souvenirs, and a suitcase full of stuff just because i don't know if i'll need it or not :lmao: and that doesn't even include DH's stuff.

My DH has thought I went off the deep end. Just spent over $100 on Landon's new pirate costume. The old one doesn't fit any longer and I couldn't resist. Luckily having been on 10+ cruises I have enough clothes and jewelry to last me a lifetime. But when it comes to the grandkids, there is no stopping me.

We've done two, week-long, riverboat cruises on the Mississippi and Ohio with a group of historical enthusiasts (we've taken up a third of the boat). Consequently, we spend the week in Victorian era attire. The crew loves it and so do most of the other passengers, as well as many of the docents and guides at the historical sites we visit. Some think we're completely nuts and sometimes I agree - wearing a wool 3-peice suit in the muggy hot Mississippi summer can be a trial.

The women bring enough day dresses and ball gowns, plus the associated hats, shoes, and accessories (fans, umbrellas, etc) so that they don't wear anything more than once, and the men bring an assortment of frock coats, military uniforms, and also the associated hats, shoes or boots, etc. The men are a little more fortunate in that they can change a vest and have a completely new look, and often wear one hat with several outfits, but the women can't do that, and of course their dresses take up far more packing space.

Consequently, most of us find that a mere two suitcases per person is quite insufficient. Several couples ship multiple boxes to the boats (imagine a stack of hat boxes 6 feet high!), and I know of one couple that gets two cabins so they could use one for storage of their luggage.

So I love it when I cruise in "modern" attire and only need one or two suitcases!

Ok well now I don't feel TOOOO bad. I think I am gonna print out the last few posts on this thread and have them sitting on Ian's (DH) desk chair so he sees them when he gets home from his business trip this afternoon.

And then I am going to fill him up with carbs (spaghetti his favorite) hoping to get him in a carb induced stupor before he sees the checking account.

And if all else fails... I will take HIM shopping!

I want to travel with your group. Speaking of hats, you should see my Kentucky Derby hat collection.

SOOOO glad to hear I am not the only one going overboard on the shopping! I have bought new summer stuff for not only me but both DD. I can't justify buying any more new clothes/shoes so I have moved on. Now I have bought a new stroller (small lightweight collapsable) for my youngest dd! I am just so excited. Only 60 days until we fly out! We are spending 2 days in Cocoa Beach before boarding the ship!! :woohoo:

Anyone have recommendations for things to do in Cocoa Beach? We are thinking of checking out the zoo in Melbourne.:beach:

I ended up pre-shipping my FE box to Florida before our last cruise. It was much easier to pre-box the FE stuff and ship it down. This way I don't pay an airline for extra bags.

We should talk on the cruise. The group is planning another one in the fall on the Columbia River and another one over New Year's Eve on the Mississippi (which I'm hoping to be able to go on).

That sounds like a blast. Our fall is pretty much taken up. Our youngest DS is getting married in St. Thomas and we are all on the Norweigen Epic, followed by 2 days at NASCAR championship weekend followed by a Thanksgiving cruise on Royal's Majesty of the Seas. My pocket book will need a break after all this.

Fully understand, but we can still chat about it if you'd like.

We have a RCI cruise to Bermuda in September, a wedding in St Pete, FL in October, and so forth...

Theoretically, I'm retired (though DW still works) but I'm busier than ever.

Now that would be sooo cool. I would love to do something like that sometime.

We've reached out to Taylor's professors and we all decided that she CANNOT miss the first class. HOWEVER, she can miss the second. She will be joining us Wednesday morning the 16th. She will be with us on the Magic.

I'm a bit sad she will miss Vero beach, the Pirate and Pals voyage, and the first full day of Disney but she will be with us on the boat. To celebrate, I've booked the Atlantis Excursion. Initially we were going to go our own ways at Nassau. Mack and I were going to stay on the Magic. Jon and Taylor were going to go tour the town. This way.... more time with sand in her toes! That will make up for flying on her own (this is not her first time but she's still a bit nervous)

So the Pittsburgh Pirates remain as a party of 4!pirate:pirate:pirate:pirate:

That is fantastic news! So happy for your family. :woohoo:

My Mother-in-Law and I are doing it. You meet up before everyone goes ashore. They have a nice set up with a clock and small little "medal". Worth doing and it doesn't really hurt the day.

I jsut found out that it's a free race that is listed in the Daily Navigator :yay:

I found it in another DIS forum and checked a couple of old Navigators (I keep them for sentimental reasons) and saw it there plain as day :cheer2:

I hope to see some fellow run/walkers! I'm training and trying to work on building up my speed but definitely want to do this run because not many people can!
