The Bahamian Rum Runners! May 18, 2012 - 5 Nights on the Magic!

Emily missed an entire week due to the dance festival. She just spoke with her profs before and had all of her work that was due that week turned in before she left.

Our oldest DD took a day off last year for us to go see DH's sister in New Mexico - it was the only day in 3 years she missed.

I agree that as long as she handles the missing assignments and so forth everything will be fine.

3pm in the promenade sounds great! I remember exactly where that is (I think).

Should someone call and warn them we are coming and they should stock way up on rum???? pirate:

Oh ... the speech patterns thing?? huh? LOL Are you talking about that famous "Texas Twang"? If so we don't have it because DH and I were raised in PA and Ohio - both girls were born in Southern California. We can fake it pretty well though - if that is what you meant.

;)

What I meant by speech patterns is the way teenage girls talk. I listen to Taylor and her friends and its like fast and high and they have special words like: Obvi = Obviously. I think they picked up shortening words from all the texting. I call the speech pattern short speed giggle talking.

I think this is actually a trend of the young set today, not just teenage girls. I was listening to my daughter and her friends, all in their early 20s, talk the other day and I heard a lot of shortened or abbreviated words such as "obvi" plus the use of texting shorthand such as "LOL"

As someone who finds the development of language fascinating: the origin and meaning of words and phrases, the evolution of slang and its incorporation into every day speech, regional differences in vocabulary and pronunciation, etc, this trend doesn't bother me. Language is not a constant but an evolution. However, I do wonder what its impact will be on our constantly evolving speech patterns since we're already seeing the impact of texting and emails on grammar and spelling.

But all this serious thinking gives me a headache...where did that bottle of rum go? Anyone for a Rum Runner? :drinking1

The Rum Runner Recipe!

•Two cups ice
•1 oz pineapple juice
•1 oz orange juice
•1 oz blackberry liqueur
•1 oz banana liqueur
•1 oz light RUM
•1 oz dark RUM or aged RUM
•Splash grenadine
•Optional: one ounce of Bacardi 151 to float on top
•Orange slice (optional)

Not sure what happened. I had posted a pic of our FE and then it disappeared? Strange..either that or those darn pirates pilfered it! ;)

Trying this again.

ok - so now it is showing up twice. I know what I did. :sad2: nevermind.

Sitting here thinking about it - I'm not sure my girls do that. I know Kylie doesn't but she is a very shy "old soul".

Emily.. I don't know. I don't think so but now I am going to start really listening to her. You have me curious. I wonder if maybe Em hasn't done that so much because in recent years the majority of her friends are - male. She HATES and I mean HATES "female drama".. but yet she is very feminine. :confused3

You will have to tell me if you hear something - because I am around them so much I think I just may be so used to it I never notice.

Aw, come on now. We know what you're really doing!

You're just bragging and showing off your new FE.

I would too, if it were mine! :thumbsup2

Oh darn! You're on to me. ;)

I wish I could take credit for making it - but I can not sew anywhere near that well. I ordered it from this super nice lady on etsy.

Hi there, I have been looking at etsy at fish extenders as well. Would you mind messaging who you purchased it from? I would like to order but unsure who to order from.
Thank you so much!

This will be our 1st Disney cruise. We are taking our grandson with us as a special trip before he starts kindergarten in the fall. I have learned a lot from this forum. I am an over planner and already getting organized. We have cruised frequently on other cruise lines, but I am more excited about this one than any of the others. We would like to join the FE

Hello! I'll add you on. Landon is a lucky kid to have such great grandparents!

I do have a question on passports. Myself and DH have passports, but we're planning on an original birth certificate for our grandson. Will that be sufficient for him?
Thanks

While the Department of State (and Disney) recommends that all US citizens departing the US have a passport, it is not required for children 16 and younger. A birth certificate which proves US citizenship is sufficient.

A passport is necessary to expedite your travel if for any reason you have to break your trip and return by other means than the ship (injury, illness, you miss the ship in Nassau, etc).

However, since Landon is not your son, you will need a notarized letter signed by the parents authorizing you to take him out of the US. It should be as specific as possible, having your names and Landon's in the letter, the cruise line, itinerary, and inclusive dates. Parental permission is required by US law in accordance with the Child Abduction Prevention Act.

However, don't take my word for it - call DCL to confirm Landon doesn't need a passport and what documentation Disney requires for him to travel with you. Get the name and phone number of who you talked to in case any questions arise at embarkation.
