The Bahamian Rum Runners! May 18, 2012 - 5 Nights on the Magic!

New FE! I added all the little ones' names and ages to help with separate kiddie gifts if you're choosing to do that. Lemme know if any changes need made.

:grouphug:

I believe we have finally found us a name!!! :goodvibes

The "Bahamian Rum Runners"! :cool1:

Whenever we see each other on the ship or ashore, we call out "Where did all the rum go?" pirate:

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I love the name. Sir William, you can be on my ship of Pirates any time!pirate:

Hi everyone,

We just moved one of our cruises on the books to this date. Looking forward to it. It will be our 5th Disney cruise - 4th on the Magic!! We sailed on the Dream back in November.

Looking forward to sailing with you all....

Kris

FE list looks great, and I love how you added a section with the little pirates & princesses! If you want to add it next time, my location is Quantico VA.

OK guys, got to vent. Here *was* the plan:

5/10 - 5/14 Vero Beach with in-laws to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary. We got a 2 bedroom villa. My husband's sister, husband and thier youngest child will be there too (in a separate room). They have two boys both grown - 1 in college, the other in Air Force, but those 2 will not be in attendance.

On 5/14 - go to Disney World Old Key West. Just the 4 of us. I have a surprise Pirate and Pals voyage scheduled for the 14th evening to see Wishes on the Seven Seas lagoon. Then 3 days at the parks

On 5/18, board the Magic and have rum with you fine folks.

On 5/23, we disembark then go to Kidani for a day and have Wanyami safari surprise (I'm big on surprises)

This trip was probably going to be our last hurrah with DD 19 (Taylor). Even though she's just as fanatical about Disney as we are (we all went to see Disney on Ice together last week), she's growing up and its getting hard to get around her schedule. She's in college and before we made all of these arrangements, we checked the college website and saw her finals would be done first week of May and summer classes started after Memorial Day. She wants to take the summer classes because she's a Softmore and wants to still graduate in 4 years and didn't pick her major (BS Nursing) until this year. So she's a bit behind.

NOW we find out the Nursing summer sessions start on 5/15. All classes are on Tuesday (2 lectures and 1 lab). She cried. Now, between us, if Taylor is permitted to "skip" a week and make it up, she would rather skip Vero and make 1/2 Disney and the entire cruise. My in laws wouldn't be happy but its not like she will be the only grandchild missing. In addition, if she misses the second week instead of the first, she'll have met the professors and gotten all the work to make it up (she's a smart cookie - she can do it). People tell me that she could miss all it no problem but I don't want to risk her education.

She would have to travel on her own - a slight anxious thing for her - but she's done it before. Get on a plane in Pittsburgh, get off in Orlando, take DME. She would miss 1 day at the park and Pirate and Pals Voyage. But she would join us at Old Key West, the Magic, and Kidani and then come home with us.

I feel horrible that she would have to miss ANY of it. I called and Vero has no other availability this summer for all of us to get together. Moving the cruise would cost additional monies. If the professors say she can't miss any of the classes, I may cancel everything all together. I can't imagine going the entire trip without her. Am I crazy?

Don't count on it! :rotfl2:

Our "kids" at 20 and 24 still expect to go on family vacations, including our visit to WDW every 2-3 years (which we will be doing after the cruise). Last year they were quite put out that DW and I went on a cruise without them and then we were going to Hawaii without them, so we took them along (its only money after all).

Having to fit their schedule into the process is one reason why we're on THIS cruise and not the one we originally scheduled for January. DD coudn't go and DS would have been racing back to college without a chance to visit WDW (or for him to see HP at Universal).

You're not crazy at all. I was kinda sorta in a similar situation over the weekend.

Our youngest (she will be 19 when we cruise) is a dance major. She was in Laredo with the colleges student dance company - she is a member. It was for the Regional American College Dance Festival. She sent me a text early Friday morning and I mean EARLY - like at 3:30 am telling me they just found out they qualified for the Grand Gala and would be performing the next evening. Only 8(we originally thought it was 11) out of 50 schools were invited to perform.... so happy for them. Then we found out that 3 of the schools performing would be invited to go onto Nationals in DC. Nationals started on May 24th. Those invited will be performing at the Kennedy Center.

I was ready to cancel everything too.. so I can totally relate to how you are feeling.

Unfortunately, but yet fortunately for our trip - they were not invited to Nationals. It was a real bummer - but it sure did make things easier.

Follow your heart.... do what is right for you and your family....and if anyone says yer crazy toss an empty rum bottle at em. ;)

Any way it works out, you know she'll have a fabulous time. And like Sir William said, Disney has a way of bringing people together, even through and after class schedules, conflicts, dance competitions, moving, marriages, kids, etc. As someone who went to medical school as well, I know its a difficult decision to ever miss any class, but I agree with her reasoning to go to the first class to get acclimated and make up the work.

These probably won't help, but looking at Jack and rum will make you feel better temporarily.

I don't know about her... but I have been dealing with a migraine half the evening and it sure has helped me! aahhhhh Jack :lovestruc:cloud9:

I was just showing Emily (DD) our fish extender.. if came in the mail tonight. I told her about our name "The Bahamian Rum Runners" and read her what Sir William said about when we see each other we need to yell "where did all the rum go?" LOL she said, "I can see it now.. this is going to turn into some freaky adult thing with all of you sitting around getting drunk, and then singing strange Disney songs. And all the kids sitting there shaking their heads and videoing all of you. Careful Mother, you never know what might end up on YouTube."

:scared1:

If she keeps it up... I will make her walk the plank! pirate:

I assume you've worked out your crisis and will still be on the cruise with us?

I'm sorry - I didn't mean to ignore your question.. just saw it. Yes it all worked out - her college dance company was NOT one invited to DC. :( Sad but not.. ya know?

No worries, I figured it out from your earlier posting.

I understand the disappointment, but I can also appreciate that this creates one less obstacle to overcome or hard decision to make.

In some ways I'm a fatalist, believing that things usually work out for the best.

So what exactly is wrong with that?

Very astute of Emily. My DS, Chris, said something similar the other night about the only reason I like Disney is because I get to act like a kid.

Guilty as charged! Hey, I was a charter member of the Mickey Mouse Club back in the 50's.

DW still finds it hard to believe that when we were on the Magic last year I encountered Daisy Duck during the Sail-Away party and began dancing with her.

Thank you all so much for your replies to my dilema.

We all agree that we will still be on the cruise. DD19 Taylor decision on attending will be determined in the next few weeks. She's going to sign up for the classes on 3/19 and reach out to the Professors regarding the request to miss a single day. I think if they look at her school records, they would be comfortable with it. Classes are only on Tuesday so she will only miss 1 of each (2 lectures and a lab).

DD10 (Mackenzie) will be crushed without her big sister and I may borrow your young adult girls to just listen to their speech patterns.

Either way, we'll see you guys on that ship. And we will humiliate our children greeting eachother like Capt'n Jack. Speaking of... I think we should set up a DIS meet before the sail-away or lifeboat drill and have a drink!

Prozak - can we borrow the design of those photos to put them as magnets on our door to add to our other decorations?

Most professors are understanding, especially if you don't spring an absence like this on them at the last moment. Most expect their students to behave like an adult and be responsible for their actions, such as making up any missed classes or making alternate arrangements for exams, etc. If Taylor approaches her professors in that manner she shouldn't have any problems.

I suggest the Promenade Lounge at 3pm.

The Promenade is easy to find and has plenty of room. 3pm is early enough to allow us sufficient time to meet and greet prior to the safety drill, but late enough that everyone should be aboard by then.

Makes sense to me!

That's why I made them! Aaarrrggg!
