The Bachlorette!!!!!

Poor Lanny! He was my favorite pick until I had the great pleasure of meeting his mother! I wonder how many women she's managed to scare off for that poor boy. Can you imagine Lanny being the next 'Bachelor' and having that woman run the show? I bet she'd show up on every date and stand next to him at the rose ceremonies making sure he picked the woman she wanted.

What about that loser line Chad used? He said something about how it is hard on parents when the youngest leaves home? Come on now, He is 31 for cryin out loud! It sounded like he's never left home!

That's the way I took it too. Time to grow up!

Hah! Now THAT would be the spice that this show needs. What a twist! I vote for Lanny to be the next Bachelor! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Aaaah - the beauty of TiVO! I'd be lost without it!

Anyway I watched again. On second glance, Ian seemed more scared than anything else. He kept saying he felt it was time to start taking risks. At one point he did say he considers her to be his girlfriend. On their first one-on-one date, he told Meridith his mom died when he was 3, and I got the impression his dad was somewhat emotionally distant. Could explain his reluctance to open up, plus his brother's intensity and protectiveness.

I still think he's my fave

i really thought that ian was odd too. maybe hes an illegal alien or on the witness protection program...the whole thing with his brother was weird and what language was he speaking on his video tape message??? chad is a liar hes the next to go, the first thing that came to mind when he was on was "what a loser" ... i guess its matt.

Ian's family situation reminds me of a guy I know. My friend's brother IS his family. He sees his dad occasionally, but was raised by a grandparents who are now deceased. His mom abandoned the family when he was very young. His dad couldn't handle it and pretty much did the same thing.

Unfortunately, I really don't think not having family that you are close to is that unusual.

Thanks, Deb and Bill for that explanation... even though I still can't imagine it...

The only yelling we heard in Brooklyn was when someone was being mugged!

Oh well....
:p

I agree Disykat.... that is true about families.

And, Ian is GOOD looking!!!!!! (just don't tell my DH I said that!!!) ;)

But, I too have to say that I felt that something was VERY wierd... Something in the way his 'brother' almost outright told him to not proceed seriously.... Like outright directing or warning him NOT to get more involved... Ian felt he had to promise that he was NOT going to offer Meredith the ring if he made it to the last rose ceremony. Makes me wonder just why Ian would seem frightened???

And then there was just the brother and that 'best friend' and no women, girlfriends, wives, in sight... Hhhhmmmmm????

Then, there was the part where Ian was saying about how 'close' he and his brother were and that there was his past somewhere (Brazil???) that they had shared that was a real PART of him that nobody else shared. TOOOOO STRANGE!!!!!!

That almost had undertones of some 'deep dark secret'. I had to wonder about what all was going on back then? There are definately huge issues, no matter what they are, they are there...

You guys are freaking me out! I still don't see it as sinister that brothers are close. Ian has said from the start - including straight out to Meredith - that he doesn't see himself engaged at the end of the show, but rather in a relationship. I don't see it as weird at all that family members would be concerned about rushing into an engagement - I'd think it was weird if they weren't.

Someone mentioned that Chad looked familiar - could he have been on "For Love or Money"? Seems like there was a guy named Chad & he got "booted" off the show before he got a one on one date. Oops...I just did a search & the guy I was thinking of was Greg. Chad still looks familiar though.

I didn't think Ian and his brother were that weird either. Perhaps a bit commitment phobic - but that is understandable since it doesn't appear as they had a good example of marriage while growing up. From boarding school in Brazil to the fact that Ian considers his brother his only family just tells me that they were unfortunate to have parents that weren't interested in them. Sad, but not really strange, unfortunately its a common occurence. :(

I like Ian. I don't think Meredith is necessarily right for him, but he is the one I would choose if I were doing the choosing. :)

I thought I read on the Bachelor website that his greatest memory was being on the Texas A&M track team.
He didn't attend the College Station campus. I think it was TAMU in Kingsville.

Deb & Bill & TigerBear- I received my BS in '95 and my MEd in '97!

Gig 'em, Aggies!

Can someone please explain the "Bob Gone Bad" issue? I must have missed that LOL.

Anyway, I was finally able to read this thread after watching it grow and grow for days LOL. We TiVoed it the other night and I said and painted my nails and piggies while I watched, while my son took his little snoozie (we don't call it nap anymore LOL)

Anyway, like most everyone else, I think I like Matt the best. I think Chad's family seemed a bit caught up in the "stardom" of everything. It seemed like they were more interested in having a celebrity in the house instead of a potential daughter in law. Ian, just never got him. Then Lanny, poor Lanny. But like someone else also posted, while his mom may have been a bit (ahem cough cough) forward, she did share what she expects of her daughter in laws and expressed what is important to her and the family. While it may not have been appropriate, I think it was a good thing because Meredith knew what would be expected of her, instead of picking Lanny in the end and ending up miserable and being bashed by the media for one thing or another. Make any sense?

Anyway, I'm rooting for Matt!!!

I think that the "Bob gone bad" that everyone is referring to is that he admitted on The View that he has been seeing Rebecca Budig (All My Children actress) for a long time now. Most believe that he was seeing her while the Bachelor was being filmed. he admitted to being interested in her since he first met her during the Trista Bachelorette show. This would mean that he had no intention of choosing a "Bride" when he was on The Bachelor.

Also, it has been said by many that he only did the Bachelor to get free publicity for his recording career and new CD he had coming out. When he was asked this on The View he denied it saying that he was in the business since 1991. Yes Bob, but how many people heard of you or bought your CD before you did the Bachelorette/Bachelor series?

Ahhh gotcha;) Hopefully for the girl he ended up picking that was not the case:mad:

Remember how Bob was always saying "I'm screwed" all the time? He was getting closer to having to make a decision and he really didn't want to make one. Then he met Greenlee, I mean, Rebecca Budig while she was recapping the shows for ABC.

I don't watch this show, but my Mom used to work with Chad Schlee's dad. It's a small world after all.;)

Who does everyone think Meredith will pick this Wednesday??? It's hard to tell. I have been looking at some of the spoiler sights; they all say Ian. But it seems obvious, according to ABC's editing, that it will be Matt. And what is with the "the's" all being red?
