The Bachlorette!!!!!

I think Matt would be the best for her out of the four... Lanny's mom freaked me out! I would have run and never looked back! Chad is a bit iffy because of the job thing... I wish they would have shown Meredith talking with him about it! I really don't think Ian is gay... I like him better than Chad, although I thought it was weird that she didn't meet more of his family. I do think his brother was on the strange side... but I could tell they were related for sure - they had the same facial features.

We'll see.... :D

I don't think that she was out of line ~ to the point yes, but out of line no! I think the saying "no man is truly happy until he has his mom's blessing" is true. Lanny was raised with certain morale's and religion.........and I think he should be able to respect that and expect that from someone he is looking to spend the rest of his life with. I also think that it is fair for his mom to want the best for him..........and to want for him to find these values in the person he will spend the rest of his life with!
NOT out of line!?!?!?!? She was telling Meredith that she expected her to kiss her butt as well as her son's from here on in, if things got serious. What happened to letting him find his own happiness and make his own decisions as an adult. Granted, they live on a ranch within close proximity to one another, but does that give Mom from Heck the right to control her sons and their wives? Where is there happiness in that? Just because Lanny was raised with certain morals doesn't mean that he can't mesh with someone who wasn't raised in exactly the same way. I'll bet that after last night's episode, Lanny will be hard pressed to find many dates. He may as well convert to Catholicism and become a priest. Mom ruined it for him.

accomp:

I totally agree with being "equally yoked" but the way Lanny's Mom came across was incredibly judgemental and inappropriate. There is a way to handle a conversation like this, but going after the poor girl like a commanding general was insane, AND very unChristian, IMHO.

BUT I do agree that she saved Meredith from making a BIG mistake. Lanny is an adorable guy but like Elisabeth said, they're from different worlds.

I still can't believe that one show could change so much! I was sooo admiring her choices till last night. Now I pity her! Matthew is the less creepy of the bunch, no doubt, Ian was my favorite until the "brother" thing, and Brad would've hit the pavement after that lie.How could she trust him after that????

Mrs. Lawrence" asked Meredith what she could do to nurture her if she ended up marrying Lanny.............I don't know.........a restraining order maybe???

That made me LOL!!!

I was glad when she sent Lanny packing. His mother was waaaayyy too much for me. Good luck to the poor girl who ends up with him. Anyone notice his Dad didn't have a lot to say?

As for Ian--well, I like him. He reminds me of my DH when we first met. He was very quiet. I had to work to pull information out of him. It was very intriguing.

Ian's parents could have problems that he didn't want the world to know about. Or, maybe he's embarrassed because they aren't as well-off as other families who've been on the show appear to be. Or, they simply may not have wanted to be on the show.

I think she'll get rid of Chad next. Then Ian. And she'll end up with Matthew.

I understand where you are coming from to a point but truly....Lanny's mother is a psycho  I knew that she would get rid of Lanny for sure....his mom is much too overbearing with her son  I would be running away faster than you'd care to see if I was on that date :teeth:

I agree about the nurturing....get a restraining order against that looney toon! :hyper:

Personally I don't care for this season....I'm kind of bored with it....anyone else think so?

For me it wasn't about WHAT Lanny's mom said, it was about the WAY she said it and the fact that she THOUGHT SHE HAD THE RIGHT to say it. The fact that her family (most obviously, Lanny!) sat back and let her talk as if it was perfectly natural that she should speak for Lanny. Any time the parent of an adult tries to lay down the "this is the way it's done in our family" rules, regardless of what they are, and everyone acts like that's normal - I'd say RUN! Adult children should make their own decisions.

I would not have had a problem if the mom had talked with Lanny about everything and encouraged him to talk with Meredith about these issues. Watching her corner Meredith and lay down the law while the entire family sits around and nods and smiles is giving me FIL flashbacks.

ITA! Nothing like confrontation/cruelty with a smile! My dh's family uses this technique and dh is so oblivious. He thinks his family is being nice to me. I'm sure Lanny and his family are quite confused by all the uproar.

For some reason, The Bachelorette just doesn't hold th esame 'gotta watch factor' for me. Also, I think we're probably all starting to feel a bit jaded about the show. Especially after Bob (where's that pukey smiley?).

EXACTLY!

She was really kind of scary.

Its sad, too, because Meredith probably would have chosen Lanny if it weren't for crazycakes Mama...........

It was obvious though, as he sat on the couch next to Meredith and said nothing, that Mama rules that roost.

And I agree with those who said its not as interesting this season. I don't know if its the "bob turned jerk" factor, or just the fact that the formula is getting old. I don't know, but while I continue to watch, I don't find it as riveting as I once did. (which is probably a good thing, LOL!)

Ditto that! Also, for some reason I'm get much more into The Bachelor. Maybe it's all the cat fighting.

I was watch the show waiting to see Lanny react -- you know like Chad did when they slipped about him being unemployed. But it didn't see to phase Lanny at all and I would find that troublesome. I kept thinking "go on Meredith -- tell Lanny's mom your a Buddist or Jewish or something like that, even if it's not true." I thought it would be funny to see mom react to that one.

I like Matthew the best so far.

Isn't Ian jobless and homeless. I remember that from the first episde -- he was traveling the world, but I had the impression that he had $$ from being an investment banker or something like that.

I get the idea that Ian's parents are wealthy. The fact that he was shipped off to boarding school in Brazil but he doesn't want Meredith to meet them leads me to believe they have plenty of money but fall short on displaying their love. Just a guesstimate, but all that talk about him identifying with the brother the most because they only had each other in Brazil made me think that the parents were less than perfect.

And gymnasticsmom, I do agree - a good cat fight is essential in these shows! :p

Up until last night, I thought this season was very boring. All of the weirdness came out though! It will be interesting when they end up at Meredith's house. They were all pretty milk toast, if I remember correctly. Sort of the "anti-Lanny's-mother" type. But then again, Meredith's grandmother had just passed away so that might account for it.

The thing that I was laughing the hardest over is the
"be submissive to your husband thing". Maybe it was the editing, but seems to me that the whole family is submissive to the mother in that household............spouse, sons and daughter in law. Did anyone else get a word in? I still maintain she could've gotten the answers she desired in a different way. She could've even pulled Meredith aside in the kitchen and said how special her son is blah blah blah. Clearly, Meredith wanted to crawl under the couch during the inquisition/intervention.

This is so right on....Mama rules the roost. That is one thing I cannot deal with :yo-yo: My DH kind of has a mom like that (maybe 1/2 as bad LOL) and I've been looked at as the blunt B if you know what I mean  I don't care...I am the one person besides my DH in the entire family that will tell her my real feelings....when I was watching the Bachelorette I was thinking "Please don't pick Lanny...." And its not cause he's not a good guy....its because he sits around and lets mommy do and say whatever she wants! Luckily for me, my DH saw after awhile the things his mom would do to "get her way" or "get a word in" and he's pretty much told her that's enough. ::yes::

I like Ian too! I think he's very good looking ... he is a little on the quiet side though and I thought his brother was pretty intense. I do wonder why he accepted the rose if he told his brother that he wasn't going to give Meredith a rose.

Lanny's a real sweetheart! I thought he had a really cute smile but his mother was pretty overbearing! Meredith did a pretty good job of sitting through dinner ... I would have got up and left. I'm guessing his mother was just nervous about the whole experience and whether Meredith was right for Lanny ... but it was too much! I'm guessing that's why she let him go.

I wonder what's up with Chad ... Did he lose his job just before the Bachleorette started or has he been unemployed for some time? He could always say that his mom lives with him and not the other way around. That might sound a little more attractive :p

What about that loser line Chad used? He said something about how it is hard on parents when the youngest leaves home? Come on now, He is 31 for cryin out loud! It sounded like he's never left home! I would run from that. Chad's family seemed like crazed Fans of the show, the way they carried on!

And I'd run from Lanny's mom of course. I think she had a good connection with Lanny, but the mom & his occupation just was not compatiable.

And Matt does seem a bit too intense or something strange about him that I can't put my finger on. But I did like his family best.

Ian....I get the impression his family is very well off. I even was thinking maybe his Dad is a high profile guy in business. Maybe his dad is somewhat famous or does not want to be on tv. Who knows, but I don't think Ian is that strange. Does anyone know what happened to Ian's Mom? I noticed he said "Dad & step mom" last night.

From the part of Texas that Lanny is from, he is sure to find a nice girl who will fill his mom's wishes for her son. I hope he finds someone who he really loves and loves him. He seemed the most genuine of all the bachelors. But his mom just wasn't right for Meredith.

And Matt??? Well, he's a good Ag who will make her a fantastic husband. He just needs to take her to Midnight Yell Practice.

Brooklyn Yankee requesting TRANSLATION!!

I thought I read on the Bachelor website that his greatest memory was being on the Texas A&M track team. At TAMU, we have Midnight Yell Practice on the Friday night before each home football game. Everyone hikes over to the football stadium and practices Yells (cheers, but at TAMU they don't have any cheerleaders, only male yell leaders). Then at the end, Aggies practice for anytime the Aggies score (touchdown, extra point, field goal). They kiss their date/spouse/significant other. Freshman hold up lighters while the upperclassmen and others kiss their dates/spouse/etc in the dark (they turn off the lights in the stadium).

TAMU football traditions are real neat.
