The "Are you CRAZY?!! April trip with 2 moms, 7 kids and 2 grouchy, grandparents TR

Got that porch picture posted over on the other thread; thanks for reminding me to do that :)

Ready for more Disney madness and frivolity??

I'll move on to Day 4- Monday, April 7th- Our first day in the parks!

The 2nd night that we had to be in motels was okay, but definitely NOT as nice as the first one. We had to downgrade, as this was the 2nd!! unanticipated night in one. That meant no hot breakfast, and a much older, cramped room. That's okay, we bee-lined it out of there by 8:00! We drove on over to the TTC to park and get a monorail to MK.

By now, you've probably figured out that the rest of the family were on a TOTALLY different schedule than us. Because we were there at rope drop, we were able to tackle ALL of the rides on the left side of the park by about 11:00. I really liked this cute one of my DS, 10.

Here's on of Captain Jack- we loved seeing him TWICE!

Good thing, we got everything in quickly too; by then the park was becoming a mad house! Also, by then, the rest of the party shows up- YOU guessed it, HUNGRY!

I had already planned on going to Columbia Harbor House for the tuna sandwiches and the clam chowder, so we headed over there. Mmmm! This place was so good! We ended up getting 3 tuna sandwiches and 2 bowls of the chowder, and to be honest it was about one bowl of soup too much. I had forgotten that the sandwiches come with chips, and it really was a lot of food. Remember, we are mostly pretty light eaters... We found 2 big tables upstairs and were in and out of there in about an hour including the ordering. FWIW, the lines in CHH were very long already at 11:30!

After lunch we strolled over to Fantasy Land, and I thought we'd never get on anything, but we did. We got FP's for Peter and Winnie, and also rode IASW, Philharmagic (which is a new fav. for the kids), and Snow White. Loved it all! My DSis wanted to ride HM, so we back tracked ( I HATE doing that!) and rode that a second time. But, it was worth it, that's one of my all-time favorites, and I love the refurbs. they've done in there. Lines everywhere were hovering around 30 minutes, and FPs sure saved a lot of time that day! We really lucked out when we did the caroussel, my DD, 12, really wanted Cindy's horse, and we just happened to be the first in line for the next group to get on. She was pretty excited!

By then, it was getting on towards dinner time, so we told everyone that we had planned on Casey's for dogs. OMG, you should have heard the rebellion! It was almost hysteria! What?! Hot dogs for dinner?? Can't we just find a nice dinner somewhere and sit down?? I suggested Tony's knowing full well, that we were going to walk down there, (my feet were ACHING by this time) only to be told it was with ressies only. YUP, sure enough. I so had to hold my tongue, but gently reminded them (again) that sit-down places in the parks fill up months in advance, and that to just expect to walk down was a joke!! So, back to Casey's we went and had an okay dog. I was following the thread about a month back on the other forum about Casey's new buns, and sure enough, they were the whole wheat ones that DID fall apart! Ugh! Chili on my pants now. Good thing those laundry facilities at FW are so clean and easy to use!:thumbsup2

After dinner, Mom and Dad decide they'd had enough, and took off for their off-site condo with my 2 youngest. There was just no way they would make until 2:00 (the time we thought we'd stay til), so I planned early on that they would leave early with Grandma and Grandpa. My sis and her 2 kids hung on until about 10:00, and we stayed until about 12:00. We had hoped to last until 2:00, but it was too hard! Maybe if we had had a break before, but the thought of leaving and spending an hour each way plus the break just didn't sound good. The kids really loved Tom. Ld. at night, and fell in love with Laugh Floor. They were sick, though, at not being able to get a FP for Space. Not to worry, I told them, we'd be back tomorrow and Thursday, and we'd ride it then.

Now, a word on Wishes. We decided to watch them from the back of the castle this time. I know there are entire threads of the best place to watch them from, and take their advice! Fantasy Land is fun IF you like them exploding over your head, but you miss the entire story and the multi-level effects if you choose to watch from here. No music that we heard, and we had to keep looking from side to side- color to the right, low white ones to the left. Not good, Bob, not good.

Well, one more photo of our fun day at MK. Who couldn't get enough??

Back to the camp, which was now up thanks to DSis and my dad. I found out later that this is why they were so late to the parks, and I had to eat crow a little and humbly thank them :worship: Take time to appreciate your family, once again.

When someone replies, hey ,can you clue me in on how to include quotes from the same post, but in different places like the one above my last post, and also how to quote from different posts/ posters, in the same reply? I'd love to know how to do that!

Thanks for hanging in there everyone! BTW, is this TMI? Is this too detailed? Boring? Just right??

Talk to you soon,

I too am enjoying your report. We traveled with another family last trip. They were friends, not family, maybe harder that way. They had never been and didn't understand the whole "time" thing, and ADR thing either. It was a little frustrating, but the best advice I can give is.... go with the understanding that at some point you must split and do your own thing. Once we did that it was great. We traveled the year before with my parents and another family(friends) However everyone had been to Disney before, had their own plans as well as plans with all of us, and it was awesome! We met up for dinners and did some parks together but didn't have to be together ALL the time. We are going back in Oct. again, and I am really looking forward to it because we are going JUST US!!

I'd say it's just right!

About doing multiple quotes, the button that has a plus sign (+) on it is what you want. It is to the right of the quote button in the bottom right corner. You just click the button for each post you want to quote, and then I think once you get them all clicked, you hit the regular quote button for the last one and that will put them all in your post. Then, you can add your comments after each post you are quoting.

Did that make any sense??

I'm loving your TR!

Leslie

Thanks, lklasing for helping me out with that. I'll experiment next time with that!

I just remembered that in the last installment, I forgot to include my 3 things I learned...

1) USE THE FASTPASSES! They work, and will save you a ton of time! But, I forgot to look at the "eligible for another one" time at the bottom several times, and missed out on getting another one as soon as I could. Study the system a bit, to make best use of them!

2) Everyone on this board already knows this, but it doesn't hurt to say it again... If you can be at the parks right at opening, you will certainly be able to get all the rides you want to done, with time to spare most likely. Then you can kick back after lunch and take in the atmosphere, street performers, shopping, and short line rides.

3) BUT... it's definitely hard to burn the candle at both ends for 7 days. WE were staying up until at least 10 or 11 each night, and wanted to be up by 6:30 the next day. Each day it was harder and harder to get up and out. Next time, we will put a break in the middle of the trip for sleep (no park).

This is my absolute favorite picture so far. I have this mental image of someone coming up behind them, yelling BOO and having everyone end up in the water!

:lmao:

Do you guys really live in one of the Stans?

I'm here Leisa...and cracking up!! :lmao: You've had quite an adventure so far. I would have slit my wrists to be sleeping in a tent and in the rain no less. You're a brave woman!!

Love your trip report and looking forward to more.

ntsammy5,

Yes, we REALLY do live in Central Asia! It's an amazing place, but in many respects a hard place to be. We love our work, though; it very rewarding.

Kimbere,

There were times I thought I might have to. :sad2: All kidding aside, we had a GREAT trip, doing almost everything we had wanted to. Keep reading- lots more to come!

Next edition should be out later tonight...

Have you ever had your days at Disney just sort of smoosh together so much that you really don't remember exactly what happened?? Our Day 5 (Tues, April 8th) was sort of that way.

I knew the kids would need a long sleep-in after being out until 12:00 (1:00 by the time we were asleep), so I planned this day for only a short time in the park. I had a meeting to go to by 9:00, anyway, so I gave them instructions to eat a good lunch, pack a dinner of sandwiches, and meet me at MK at 2:30.

They enjoyed the morning with Grandma and Grandpa and their auntie and cousins swimming, relaxing, and hanging around the campsite. We did meet up, but even that was a screw up. I said meet me at the monorail entrance, but forgot there were 2!!!! :scared1: I sat on a bench in plain view of the upper one, and they were at the lower one for 45 minutes!! before we saw each other. Does anyone else hate wasting time like that??

So, off we went into the parks to tackle some things we didn't do yesterday. Anara, our youngest wanted to see Woody's roundup again, so that was the first thing we did. She was thrilled to be chosen as one of the riders! She's the one in pink in the second picture.:cutie:

We also got FPs for SM and BTMR, so rode those again. It's SOOO nice to have all of my kids be tall enough now for almost everything. The only thing we had to child swap on this trip was EE, (would have needed to for RnR, but littlest came later in the day). It's a great day when everyone can be included!

Another discovery we made today, was Carousel of Progress. My kids absolutely loved this ride, and vowed to take their grandparents on it. That song is still stuck in my brain, and we've been home for over a week! Scary!

Some other highlights of the day:

My DD, 15 was put up on the screen in Laugh Floor and we saw a mother duck and her babies RIGHT next to the boats on the SMtn. river- I mean seriously, right next to the river on the right side of the boat just before you go into the paddle boat room at the end. Philharmagic was just as good the 3rd time around, and the line for Dumbo was just a long as every other time we walked by.

Take a look at this shot I got of Cinderella's step sisters and mother. Is that one in the pink so totally in character, or what? Check out her tongue!! :lmao:

DSCN2869.jpg

Is Liberty Square anyone else's favorite area?? I just love the theming here!

DSCN2855-4.jpg

And I can't think of anyone who's ever camped at FW who doesn't like this sight!!

DSCN2791.jpg

Things I'll do differently next trip to the World:

1) Keep better notes of what we did if you have plans to write up a trip report. Even with the help of 5 kids, I just can't piece it all together. Maybe that's a good thing... we were having so much fun, it didn't matter!

2) If you need to meet outside the park (because you forgot to hand off tickets) BE CLEAR! and have your cell phone charged!! I still can't believe we messed up that badly!

3) Sleeping in after an eve. EMH is a good thing. Since I couldn't, I was really draggin'.

Well, tomorrow will be more action packed, because my memory is a bit more sharp for that day. Amazing what a change of scenery will do for that problem. Happy reading everyone! and sleep well!

Nice pictures :goodvibes You know, I've never understood the long line for Dumbo I've seen cooler rides at our local carnivals :confused3

I have a hard enough time letting my kids ride the rides at the State Fair of Texas. No way are they getting on a local carnival ride. :scared:

Leisa, another great report. We missed the Carousel of Progress on this trip, which I remember loving as a kid. But, it will be something new for next trip. :goodvibes

Oh yeah... One more thing I forgot to ask...

In the picture of the boat, see behind the greenery there's a crane?? What are they building over there? I think it was maybe be the contemp.?? new resort? more parking? What will that be??

Check here if you'd like to relive the Carousel of Progress.

It's construction over next to the CR. I'm not sure if it is part of the CR or if it's something new for the DVC. Depending on your location it looks like it might spoil the view of the MK.
