Odd question here...I used to listen to the Aquabats a lot back in the 90s. It was a time I was obsessed with ska music and their Devo-esque antics were always hysterical at the live shows.

My cousin just told me they were playing nearby and wanted to get tickets. My question is this...

Since they are now part of Yo Gabba Gabba and have their own children's TV show as well, I would have to assume parents are taking their kids to see these shows. Has anyone taken their children to see The Aquabats? And if so, has it turned from a primarily adult ska show to a children's show? Are the adults in the audience non-existent (aside from parents)?

I really do not want to spend the money for the tickets if it's going to be a children's show...

Thanks guys!! :dancer:

The Aquabats is not a children's show. Their concerts are more leaned towards 18yo and over.

I do know a number of parents with 8-year-olds who have taken their kids to see them, but it's also the same parents who take their kids to the Specials, English Beat, Green Day, etc. Those aren't children's shows -- don't know about Aquabats though.

I saw them a couple years ago on a multi band ticket. They were, I think, the 2nd band to play. There were some kids, dressed up too, but the music was from their albums not the show. It was very fun. I think the kids left after that... or should have... because Reel Big Fish is not kid friendly, lol.

I love the aquabats and was so excited to see 2 ska bands I love together!!

Thanks guys!!! You have absolutely convinced me and I am so excited!! It sounds like it's gonna be a Super Rad show! (If anyone is going from NYC, I'll see you there)

I was watching a series about Warped Tour 2013 and they were on that tour. They seemed fun but I'm not sure that they are young kid appropriate.

I think they're still gonna be the 90s band we love and remember. I'd go!

Thank you everyone for convincing me to go to the show last night!!! :cool1:

It was just as I remember it! There were a lot of kids there, but most of the parents were once ska kids and punks. I remembered some of them from the old days of Long Island ska (free shows in church basements!!)...kinda made me feel old seeing so many punk buddies with kids... But that's besides the point.

The opening band, Koo Koo Kangaroo, was soooo tongue-in-cheek hilarious that I almost got a koo koo canker sore! ;) I loved it!! I never thought I'd have so much fun believing in unicorns, hugging strangers and loving rainbows.. ;) It was awesome! (For those who don't know, they are a self-proclaimed "kid's band for adults." They come out singing/rapping songs in the style of kid's songs, but the level of sarcasm is astoundingly amazing. Especially since they were skankin' in the pit with us in the middle of their set - plus audience participation TO THE MAX!!)

The Aquabats! were just phenomenal!! Recognizing the kids in the audience, MC Bat Commander (the lead singer) made a point to tell the "older kids" that there are younger kids scattered in the audience and that if they were kicked or fell on, the younger kids have the right to take things from them, like their shoes. It really was wonderful how respectful both the parents of the little ones and the older kids were to each other! And some of those brave parents really got into the pit with their kids. :worship: Very very brave with all the chaos going on in there.

They played mostly songs from their first three albums which I loved, b/c I don't really know their newer stuff. All in all, a phenomenal show! Loved!
