Can anyone explain to me what the promotions are:

http://losangeles.angels.mlb.com/schedule/promotions.jsp?c_id=ana

For example Monday April 7th: Anderson 12 Game RBI Streak Wall Clock

Wed April 16: Fleece Blanket

What does it mean. I doubt they are free gifts! :)

We've (Brits) have never been to a baseball match and I've managed to convince the wife we should try and do something real American. Get the kids a few hats, take some photos, catch some of the game etc.

8th or 16th April are our likely games, cheers

Yes, they are free gifts but usually it's only free for the first 10,000 or 15,000 fans something along those lines.

Wow! Free stuff! Thats great! I may go on the Wednesday just to get a fleece blanket! it says 'all fans in attendance' Do they really mean first that or just 10-15k? Either way I'm going!

thanks Mike

They specify on the page you referenced if it's all fans or the first so-many. Also some of the give-aways are only for kids, also specified there. We've gone on fleece blanket night, and it's a nice item, but not extravagant by any means. I think you'll have a good time.

Well, I'm real late with the reply here, but I thought I would share my thoughts on an English family's view on our first time at baseball.

I'm not a big sports fan at all. I do love English football (soccer to you!) and a bit of tennis, but thats it.

Me, my wife 2 kids (6 year old boy and 7 year old girl) went along to our first baseball game against Cleveland Indians back in April. No free stuff as planned but I'm wearing my brand new Angels cap I got from Wal-Mart for $6 :cool1:

We got there before dusk 6.30 and I was very impressed with the stadium! It looks great! Out comes the camera and I make the wife take pics. I just don't know why it felt so cool to be there but I was taking it all in.

The only tickets left are in the nosebleeds. It took ages to get up there and to our seat. Wow! What a view! I found it really interesting that you saw all walks of life at the game. Young, old, white, black, hispanic, groups, couples watching the game.

Now the actual game itself was very slow. Having never seen a baseball game before I didn't know what to expect. It seemed rare for someone to actually hit the ball! (I know a lot of Americans dislike soccer because of the very low scoring) But I did actually enjoy it. We stayed for about two hours. By then it was pretty cool and we were still in shorts and t-shirts!

Of course as soon as we stepped out of the stadium the crowd went wild! Then fireworks! Later on TV I would learn it was a home run, but the Angels would still lose!

My wife wasn't too impressed (women and sports, eh?) but the kids had fun and it was one of those once in a lifetime things to do and we wouldn't go back.

Or so I thought...

A few days later I say we should go back and see the Angels again. I'm getting all these "Go Angels!" comments from strangers. Waitresses and shop workers keep asking me if I'm going to the game tonight... I feel like a local!! I mention free fleece blankets to my wife, but met with a "so what?" look. So then I ask the kids if they want to go and they are all "Yeah!!" Back to Wal-Mart for a few t-shirts and caps for the kids. Pink for the girl!

We arrive for our second match. Get a free fleece blanket. FREE STUFF!! COOL! and watch our second game. I'm getting more excited this time. Angels are 2-0 down, but then get back into the game. Then at one of the breaks, nearly everyone stands up and sings "Take me out to the ball game!" It was like the national anthem was being sung. Strange moment. We got a 'why aren't you standing?' look from some guy :rotfl: After 3 hours, we go home all tired and ready for bed.

You can take your Hollywood, Disneyland and Universal but my best memory of LA was going to watch the Angels. What a great time I had there doing what locals do!

GO ANGELS!!

Sounds like you had fun there, I'm so glad!

The standing-up and singing thing is very likely the "7th Inning Stretch". Not sure why it's done, but I figure it's a good way to stretch out your legs a bit. :)

So glad you enjoyed our Angels!!! We're big Angel fans here. Looking forward to going in a couple weeks to see them take on the Boston Red Sox! Boo! Hiss!

Your story of being confused about how baseball works was funny! I forget that not everyone has a basic understanding of it. At the end of the school year, I took out my 3rd graders and another class for kickball (like baseball, only the kids kick a red rubber ball intead of batting). A new girl in the other class seemed thoroughly confused when it was her turn. She didn't seem to know that there was a pitcher, or that you ran around the bases counter-clockwise at all.

I said, "It's just like baseball. You've seen a baseball game, right?"

"No."

"Never? Not even on the news or SportsCenter on ESPN?"

"No."

So I showed her what to do and we continued on. Later, I mentioned it to her teacher... who laughed and said, she just moved here, having lived most of her life abroad in Saudi Arabia! :lmao: So, she probably could've shown the other kids a thing or two in soccer, but baseball...:confused3

Ahhhh baseball...right now on our TV is the A's/Angels game!! Go A's!!! LOL I like the A's/Angels games, they are well matched.

I'm glad you enjoyed your first game, enough to go to a second one! Enjoy that free blanket, we have some too (from A's games), we love free gift games. LOL And yes, they can be very boring at times but man, when it gets exciting it sure does get exciting! :) I hope you can come back and see another one sometime!
