The Amazing Race 7...official Thread

This is the first season that I've watched all the way through. So, no other teams have used local help like Romber? I wonder why.

It was my understanding that they've not been used to the extent that Rob and Amber have been using them. I think if asked lots of locals would hop at the chance to run around witrh a team and be on American TV even if it wasn't "Rob from Survivor" asking. 15 min of fame and all.... ;)

This is the first season that AR has been a Must See show for me (yes, I enjoy Romber). I've seen a few episodes from other seasons, and my impression was that the teams could not tell locals that they are on "The Amazing Race, American TV show". They just say they are in "a race". Is that a rule?

Let me first say I love Romer & U/J (that Uchenna is a great catch) and I don't care that Rob & Amber won Survivor- you play hard you deserve it. For the person that is mad Amber already won a million hate to tell you it was
2 million for her and $250,000 for Rob. It was All-Stars so they upped the jackpot.

Sorry I just looked it up Amber still got 1 million but every other prize was upped. Rob got 250,000 instead of 100,000

How do you figure that?

In London the teams spent a lot of time in taxis and trains. If they had needed to beg for more money during racing time, I bet it would have put them last. Meredith must have given them quite a bit of money because I didn't see them ask anyone for any more money after that.

Jennifer S - I don't remember Amber getting $2 mil for Survivor All-Stars. Does anyone else remember this?

I guess you are conveniently forgetting that Chip and Kim yeilded Colin and Christy. But I guess that is okay because Colin was such a jerk too.

Ah, let's see, NOPE I did not forget & where did I say I thought using a yield was sneaky? I never said that. Yes, it was smart move to use the yield BUT if R/A were really smart racers as every one claims  they would have yielded U/J instead of R/K. I think they need to worry more about U/J then R/K!

I don't like Rob because he plays dirty. Telling bus drivers not to open the door so the other players can get out, telling airport workers not to give other racers information or let them use the computers, etc.
If Rob goes up to an airport worker & ask for some info and a few minutes later U/J go up to the same airport worker & ask for the SAME info, I feel that airport worker should give it to them! What makes Rob think he is the only one intitled to it? I swear Rob thinks he is God where he thinks he can tell people what to do. I feel that is sneaky & dirty & then that smug look on his face drives me nuts.
I can not stand arrogant people in real life & Rob comes across like a very arrogant person....a HUGE turn-off to me.

I really hope they don't win next week & then maybe they will just go away quietly! One can hope, right? :p

Did anyone see G&M on the Morning Show this morning? I'd be curious to hear what they had to say. (I forgot to set the TiVo for it.)

They received some more money from people waiting for the Heathrow Express.

There was another million, but Amber didn't win it, Rupert did. I think that's what you were thinking of. :)

I really think that after all their exposure, Amber and Rob (especially Rob!) know what makes for good TV. They know if they say things like, "don't let anyone else use this computer," that the CBS folks aren't going to edit them out. Half the time I don't think they're serious. Maybe they really are evil, sneaky people in real life, but I've really enjoyed watching them on Survivor All Stars and The Amazing Race. They use their brains and they really show each other a lot of respect.

Amy :)

Didja notice how for all her whining Gretchen was by far the stronger member of the G&M team? You didn't see Meredith do the climbing/rapelling in the last episode - and if he could just drive the dadburn bus they'd still be in it. Actually, if he hadn't given Kelly money they'd probably still be in the race (and didja notice how Gretchen wasn't in the frame when he gave them the money? I wonder if she knew - oh to be a fly in the wall in their family room when she watches the tape of that scene!).

Oh I am soooo glad it was Merideth and not Gretchen who did the bus driving. Look at how frustrated JOYCE was, she actually screamed at Uchenna, and that was the 1st time this whole race I saw her snap at him. Can you imagine if Gretchen had to manuever the bus??????

I distinctly heard Phil say during one of the detours, that "you can get the locals to help you with the pushing" I think it was the elephant statue.

I also read that AR is having a hard time going to other countries to film the AR. Many locals are recognizing what is going on and they are starting to draw crowds and attention. They actually are setting up decoys to throw off people from knowing some destinations. Think about it, how did they film that ending in London, someone had to see what was going on, they were in Potters Field across from the London Bridge. I'm surprised the papprazi isn't giving away leaks.

Speaking of Potter's Field (or whatever it was called) did anyone giggle when Gretchen said "isn't that a cemetary?"

Isn't Potter's field (the cemetary) on Hart Island off Long Island?

Long Island/London...whatever. hehehe

She borrowed the lipstick from the woman behind the counter at the airport. YUCK!

OHHHHHH, I missed that. I mean I saw them doing something but I guess I looked down at just that moment. I was trying to get my vote in for BO!

Do you seriously believe that the workers in the airport are not going to give information out because some guy told them not to? I don't think Rob has some hypnotic powers that makes people stop doing their jobs.

Just because CBS doesn't show the next team getting the same info doesn't mean it didn't happen.

As much as I do not like Kelly, and I do like Rob & Amber...I thought it was hysterical what Kelly did to Rob and Amber's picture at the yield.

Question, where did she get the pen though? Interesting.

I really liked the bus challenge. It is one of my favorites. It took skill and patence, and wasn't just about brute strength or stamina. Plus, it fit in with the locale!

I still can't figure out why G/M chose to do the boats instead of the clues. That didn't make sense to me.

Also, while in hind sight it would have been smarter to yield U/J, I think R/A did the right thing. Even though they were pretty sure they were ahead of the other two teams, they didn't know for sure (remember last week, anyone?). So, they yielded the closest competition they knew the exact whereabouts of, R/K. You never know with these reality shows, the other teams could have switched their flights last minute and R/A would have never known.

Finally, I couldn't figure out why R/A seemed upset R/K made the flight. Being that they were standby on the other flight, it was quite risky. At least if another team was on the flight, they would know where they were and wouldn't be alone in last place if something happened and missed their connection.

.

I think it is because the London subway system is so confusing. Merideth made the comment "we'll never be able to figure out the underground railway" or something to that effect.

The clues seemed simple enough to us sitting at home, but we really don't know how tricky it could of been. Especially for a team who has someone like Gretchen in it, who gets flustered very easily, and then it is all over.

Oh no, I don't think the workers listen to Rob as often as we are led to believe. But he is still playing dirty. We do know for a fact that the bus driver didn't open the back door when Rob told him not too!
