The Amazing Race 7...official Thread

The other question that flits through my head is would any of the teams have stopped if it was a strange truck with a bunch of locals in it that had had an accident?
Already been answered many times. It's not the same thing. I would never stop for stangers on the side of the road.

It wouldn't have mattered one bit to the race if they had just stopped to ask if they were OK. Obviously, they wouldn't have been elimintated as there were at least two teams that would still be behind them. Every other team either slowed down or stopped. And what about the look on Amber's face when Phil asked them at the pit stop. She was grinning. Yep. They know how to play the game. They're smarter than everyone else.

I wonder if Meredith and his wife were on meds do they still get to use them or were they stripped. No, no Lipitor for you until the end of the race! What about contact lenses? Deodorant? The mind and nose reels...

I'm sure that if they have any regular meds they need to take that they are still permited to take them. CBS doesn't want a lawsuit on their hands :sad2:

One of the extra videos on cbs.com is Gretchen & Meredith talking w/ Lynn & Alex about losing everything. Gretchen said something about her only being left w/ tampons, which she doesn't need anymore. Either Lynn or Alex (don't know who is who) suggested she sell them

I'm sorry but--- :rotfl: .

Wonder how much she could get for them :rolleyes1 .

I'm kinda torn about Rob and Amber not stopping. The logical, rational part of me says that why stop? They're not doctors, there was nothing they could do to help, Lynn and Alex were already standing there picking their noses (because they had nothing to do but flutter around and look anxious), and there were obviously more people than just the brothers on the scene. The other part of me says that it would have shown consideration of the larger humanity of the scene if they had at least stopped, made SURE there was nothing they could do, and then went on their way.

It would have been nice for R & A to stop and at least ask if everyone is okay, but I have to look at the whole thing. If R & A had flipped over, do you think any one of the teams would have stopped, or even asked? I don't think so, personally. And, if I was as hated by everyone around me as R & A are, I would have just kept going. If he had used his head, he would have rolled down the window and asked, just so he didn't look bad, but he didn't. They have been hated from the beginning, so he's not going to become compassionate now, for sure. I've always had mixed feelings about them. I find him funny sometimes, laughing with him, but then there are times I'm laughing at them, instead.

At least he's not cussing out his fiance and shoving her and stuff. I kept telling my DH last AR, that blonde lady needed to pull a Lorena Bobbitt.

That's my HO.

I haven't rewatched the episode yet, but I wonder if the laughter/grinning from Amber and Rob (in regards to not stopping at the accident) was a "I'm guilty as charged and I feel badly/embarressed about that. :o But it is a race..."

I would think that they knew it was not the polite thing to do and that they probably should have stopped, but didn't because their competitive nature took over.

Just trying to get into their mind set... Who knows???

Did anybody else hear Rob saying something very compassionate in his vehicle as the passed the accident? He said something along the lines of "oh how terrible, they're our competition and all but I don't want to see anybody get hurt, that's no fun for anybody". This may not be an exact quote but its the gist of what he said. I wouldn't have stopped either...what would they have done? Lynn/Alex were already there and the camera man was receiving assistance already. There was no reason to stop.....I just don't think it was anywhere near the big deal everyone is making it out to be
I agree here w/ cruisnfamily here.

Also, from my perspective, I don't know if I would have stopped, not because I didn't care, I'm just not sure how to act in that type of situation. I'd be embarrased and feel badly for not stopping, but I just wouldn't know what to do. Some people are very good at dealing with "extreme situations" I'm not one of them. I don't even know how to act or what to do when someone gets hurt or sick around me. I would call for assistance, but if someone is already getting it, what am I suppose to do???

Example: My husband hurt his finger about two months ago. Just thought he stoved it playing basketball. It was still bothering him a few weeks later, he went to get it checked and he had actually broke it, but it was healing. Doctor didn't do anything, no need to at that point. Well, I accidently "reinjured" it for him, he yelled, swore, looked like he wanted to die but I didn't know what to do other than ask him if he wanted me to drive him to the hospital. I actually laughed while this whole incident took place. Not that I didn't care or that I wanted him to be hurt, but out of nervousness and just the lack of knowing what to do and his overall reaction was kind of funny. [He passed on going to the hospital - just moped for a while - its still bothering him, but I can't make him go.]

I'll also add here, I have not been around any real "extreme situations" before thankfully. So I've never needed to learn how to deal with them.

Just my thoughts on why someone wouldn't stop.

I've been thinking on this...

If R&A had flipped over...I do think other teams would have stopped--especially if it was witnessed...I think the car was still upside down.....I think they are getting too much for the choice they made to continue--but I don't think it is cut and dried to say that they didn't stop b/c nobody would have done the same. I do think the boyfriends were the only ones with potential to have the same response to the incident if R&A were in place of the brothers. I think that Rob would have said the same thing as the brothers did about telling people to continue. He is cunning--but he is not with malice.

In reality--I think it is the boyfriends who have the BIGGEST problem with R&A...the brothers didn't feed them with any cattiness when they were commenting on it. They were more concerned about the wreck and they didn't want anybody to stop to begin with. I don't think the bro's will hold a grudge against R&A...they knew their cameraman wasn't dying--my guess is that he had some sort of broken bones or something....but that is just a guess. They didn't want anybody to be held up b/c of their incident.

I definitely think that any other team would have stopped if they were the first to come across Rob & Amber in a hypothetical wreck. What I don't believe is that the boyfriends would have stopped if they weren't the first to come across it. If they did, I'm sure it would be all about how bad Rob's driving skills are and how careless he is and how he injured an innocent cameraman as if he had done it on purpose.

In other words, I agree with Lisa Loves Pooh.

I think the other teams would have stopped for Rob and Amber if their truck had flipped-even the boyfriends. The boyfriends talk a lot of trash when they are by themselves and to the camera, but are nicer to Rob and Amber to their face. They wished Amber good luck during the shopping task at the market and acted all guilty when telling Rob the cab was full. They felt like they needed to excuse it to the camera:) All the other teams freaked out when they saw the truck flipped and acted like they were ready to leap out of the truck to see if everyone was ok. R/A just blew on by. Rob commented that he felt bad and I think he even felt bad AS he was driving by, but just can't help himself.

I think they were being sarcastic.

So glad that R&D are gone!

Thought it very nice of U&J to give M&G some of their clothing after everything was taken away from them.

I like how Lynn and Alex were telling Ron and Kelly what happened on the road at the task (since they got there first and did not see the accident.) Kelly said well hurry up hon- Rob and Amber don't deserve to win and pushed to beat them.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Sometimes people laugh or smile inappropriately out of nervousness or embarrassment.

I am a fan of Lynn & Alex (boyfriends)
but you know what I noticed, Lynn is usually the one talking about Rob & Amber more so then Alex.

I have watched some of the video clips of Lynn & Alex & almost everytime it is Lynn going on & on about Rob & Amber (mainly Rob).

I do wish Lynn would tone it down a notch, but I still hope they are in the top three at least! Would love to see them win it all :cheer2:

Rob & Amber can not go soon enough! ;)

wvrey -Rob and Amber - If you're playing a game of Monopoly with someone, do you cut them a break if they can't pay the rent on Park Place ? Repeat these three words, people: IT'S A GAME !!!!!

That is a game, someone injured on the side of the road is not.
Your playing monopoly, someone gets sick, when they come back do you say sorry you missed several turns your now out of the game.

It's a game, but there are times when who you are as a person come through, and Rob repeatedly does not show a very morally nice personage. Phill talking only to this team about the accident, shows their moral lacking.

At this point I'm cheering for whoever can beat Rob/Amber

I wasn't referring to the wreck, I was referring to giving granny and grampa money at the start of the leg.

And I beg to differ, but Rob has been nothing but kind to EVERYONE they've met in these places, save the people they are competing against. It is shown time and time again. Did they have to take time to sign autographs when they stopped for directions ? Oh, wait...I'm sure he just did that so that it would speed them up, right ?

Enough already....lets face it...if rob/amber were in any of the situations that the others were in they wouldnt get any help either. Anybody else has the opportunity to talk to the locals and get directions also. Rob seems to be the only one to actually thank a local when they help him and I dont just mean saying thank you, I mean actually shaking hands....Amber though needs a brain.. how hard is it to decide that when the other team is 1 1/2 times through a challenge that you should not just wait and see what happens. yes I know that they didnt know how far they were into the challenge but just dont sit there and look stupid without saying anything. And rob was the only person in AR history that when their partner couldnt make a decision didnt just start yelling at them.Do you think Jonathan would have been calm about it or even Ray or Lynn/Alex. I dont think so.....

Lets get off Robs back already..hes playing the game great the same way he played Survivor great....Amber didnt deserve to win...Rob did!!!!

Rob & Amber have really made great decisions (for the most part) when choosing which task to do in road blocks (if that's what its called - the one where they have to choose between two tasks). Part is probably luck but I bet everybody who did the cave was kicking themselves when they saw how easy the task in the village was. I wish Gretchen & Meredith had gone to the village. They would have faired so much better!

Touche!

Gretchen and Meredith would have had a much harder time with the Market Detour because they had so little money! They will have money again after this Pit Stop but not near the amount the others have accumulated.

I wonder how much money the teams do accumutale by the end of the show. They should show us how much they are taking away from them, just for interest sake.

I just watched one of the "extra" videos over on the AR website. It's the first time I watched any and I really liked them, especially the ones of Phil talking to the camera. In one of them, "Getting the accent down" he talked to one of the production assistants who keeps track of the money. She doesn't collect it, but she does count it at every pit stop. She says that one team has $120 and another has about $45 and that's a lot of money in South Africa. So ... I don't think they will be all that much behind once they get their next allocation.

I’m always late reading this thread, but I love to see everyone’s thoughts. Here’s my 2 cents:

Rob & Amber—I have very mixed feelings about them. I think that Rob is pretty amusing and I like the way he thinks through things when running the race. On this particular episode my opinion of them dropped a good bit though. I agree with the others that thought he should’ve rolled down the window to check on the brothers. It did seem that the situation was being handled, so I don’t think they needed to stop, just that they should’ve at least rolled the window down and asked if everyone was OK. Also, I think Rob intended for the comment about Meredith shoving Gretchen for sympathy to be funny, but it just came off very rude. I like watching them run the race, but I hope they are a little bit kinder in future episodes (not that they need to quit playing a smart race).

Meredith & Gretchen—they are actually growing on me. Sometimes they can get on my nerves, but I like how spunky Gretchen was after she was injured. I’ve got to give them credit for not being quitters. I don’t think they have what it takes to win, but I like watching them race. I think it will be interesting to see how having no stuff at all impacts them in upcoming episodes.

Ray & Deana—good riddance! As others said, his behavior is just despicable. I did like the fact that Gretchen and Meredith beat R/D after Ray had said such hateful things about G/M. Ha!

Alex & Lynn—I think they are sometimes funny and sometimes downright obnoxious. Although they still sometimes make me laugh, I am ready for them to go. I was proud of them for stopping to help the brothers though.

Uchenna & Joyce—I just can’t seem to feel a connection with them. I think I like Uchenna a bit more than Joyce for some reason, but I can’t really put my finger on it. After their comments about time at the orphanage, I wonder if they really spent more time there than we got to see. I did think it was nice of them to give Meredith and Gretchen clothes.

Ron & Kelly—I guess I haven’t noticed why some people think Ron is so rude. I haven’t seem him do anything that really crosses a major line yet (or maybe I’ve just forgotten about it). I just don’t think he is very in love with Kelly, but I don’t blame him for that. I do wonder what he does that makes Kelly call him a “redneck piece of trash” in next week’s episode. I wonder if that will change my opinion of him or of her. She seems a little prone to overreacting, so maybe she is the rude one not him. I guess I’ll just have to wait until next week to find out.

Brian & Greg—they are my favorite team. I love their attitudes—very easy-going while still competitive. I also felt so sorry for them when they wrecked. It was obvious how horrible they felt for the cameraman. I also noticed that they said a prayer for him and found that to be very touching (I agree with the poster who said how nice it was to see that on TV these days). So far I am rooting for them to win.
