robinb said:I just want to take a look at comments that Lynn made to Alex while driving through Johannesburg. People seem to be upset about what they said, so I reviewed my ReplayTV recording to try to understand why.
Lynn and Alex make a wrong turn (twice!) and end up off the highway and are driving though a rough area of Johannesburg. Johannesburg is known for its high crime and car jackings.
So, exactly what did you find troubling in that segment? The comarison to a high crime area in Africa to one in America? The fact that Lynn commented that someone looked like Tupac? Something else?
I think it was that after previously having heard them say something to the effect that this was actually a real city and not some shanty town type of place that made people upset.
You really believe they would have stop?
I knew it was some little nickname for them. By the way robinb, I totally agree with your post.
Regrading the remarks they made while lost in the city, I am sure that if you asked them they would say that they were in no way racist, but sometimes in the heat of the moment our reflex reactions show something different. Trust me, it happens to us all. (For an extended insight on this read Malcolm Gladwell's "Blink")
