The Amazing Race 7...official Thread

I just want to take a look at comments that Lynn made to Alex while driving through Johannesburg. People seem to be upset about what they said, so I reviewed my ReplayTV recording to try to understand why.

Lynn and Alex make a wrong turn (twice!) and end up off the highway and are driving though a rough area of Johannesburg. Johannesburg is known for its high crime and car jackings.

So, exactly what did you find troubling in that segment? The comarison to a high crime area in Africa to one in America? The fact that Lynn commented that someone looked like Tupac? Something else?

I think it was that after previously having heard them say something to the effect that this was actually a real city and not some shanty town type of place that made people upset.

I really didn't get the point of this post? was it to show that everyone thinks ray and deana are jerks?

I thought the worst part was Rob and Amber grinning and giggling like proud idiots when Phil asked them about not stopping. They didn't exactly vindicate themselves.

I thought Lynn and Alex were great - not letting Rob bully them into sharing their cab. I was not offended by their comments on Africa - they seemed no different than comments they might have made about any other city/country. They were glad they were in a modern city, they were afraid in the bad part of the city. They could have been talking about anywhere.

Kudos to Gretchen - she just kept going. If I were them I would have been upset when Phil said it was a nonelimination round.

That's exactly how she won Survivor All Stars. By sittiing back quietly and letting Rob do all the dirty work for her.
I agree, and I hated their total lack of class (mostly Rob's) from both Survivors he was on, and DEFINITELY with the All-star show. Amber didn't do crap.

I have not really like Rob and Amber for some time. Last night confirmed my feelings. Yes it is a game but when human life is on the line, something else has to matter. The fact that Phil mentioned the wreck to Rob and Amber confirms to me that a line was crossed.

I totally agree..TOTAL lack of class. I was happy to see that ALL the other teams at least slowed down to ask if things were ok, even Ray and Deana and I liked him least of all after all his old people bashing...Also, with the taxi incident, Rob had no right to barge up demanding that they share their taxi, there is no way he would have done that for anybody else. What a hypocrite after stealing the taxi belonging to the sisters. I truly am constantly amazed at what a bigger jerk he makes himself out to be every time I see him....It is my opinion, but I am truly amazed!!

Im also wondering what happened to Deana's face?
Did she hit herself with the pole they were using to crush the corn?

I have a question for all those who fault Romber for not stopping...How many times have you seen an accident where someone else had already stopped and you knew the accident had been called in and actually stopped yourself. If I witness an accident or am the first to arrive I stop...other than that I don't nor would I expect Romber to stop when the boyfriends were already there and we all know it had been called in due to the myriad of other people we don't see on camera.
Please read my previous post about stopping for strangers v/s stopping for someone you know. There is no comparison, IMO. Just to be clear ... I do not fault TTWSNBN for not stopping. I don't expect them to stop and get out of there is already someone there. I fault them for not slowing down and asking if everyone was OK. The other teams slowed and checked. TTWSNBN just zoomed on by. It's sad to see basic humanity get swallowed up by the desire to get ahead in a game.

The brothers urged them to get going even before Romber went by. If I was the boyfriends being the first to see it I would have stopped made sure all was ok and left....which might have actually led to Romber stopping since they wouldn't have seen another team already stopped.

:rotfl2: You really believe they would have stop?
The Jerk is so downright cocky that he would have kept right on going & Amber doesn't seem to be able to think for herself so she would have just gone along with it. :)

Her face (eye) looked that way at the first pit stop (after their fast forward) as well. I am thinking it must be allergies or something like that.

I believe that if they hadn't heard something over the radio and no one else was there that yes they would have checked it more than just driving by.

Wasn't that in the Johannesburg set-up read by Phil? How a shanty town has now become a thriving city? Can anyone really say that they wouldn't be scared driving through a seedy area like that? I'm a city girl who grew up in Chicago and I would have rolled my windows up and locked my doors a whole lot sooner!

CBS has basketball all weekend so they aren't reshowing this one. You can catch the highlights in the clip show this week and a recap on the website but I'm not seeing any reshowings of this before next Tuesday according to the Yahoo TV website

Actually I thought that was in the Soweta lead in. I would have been as careful as them too but not made the comments knowing I was on camera.

I haven't read the entire thread, but what does TTWSNBN stand for?? I assume it's something to do with Rob and Amber....

The Team Who Shall Not Be Named. :rotfl2:

Hahaha :rotfl: I knew it was some little nickname for them. By the way robinb, I totally agree with your post.
It's sad to see basic humanity get swallowed up by the desire to get ahead in a game.
Shallow, shallow shallow, greed, greed greed...I know it is a game and for alot of money, but they way that they laughed and were so amused with themselves for being so classless, really threw me for a loop.

If I'm not mistaken, when Ray and Deana were doing the corn pounding, Ray accidentally hit her in the face with his pole. If it were near enough to her eye, then that's why it was swollen. She even said something to the effect of "you could apologize."

Pam

I'm also going to restate that this is NOT the same situation as stopping for strangers on the side of the road. Unless I actually witness an accident I would never stop at an accident scene. That's for my own safety and for my children's safety. If I felt it was necessary, I would call 911, but I would not stop. If it was someone I knew or was even an acquaintance, then yeah I would stop. I would even stop for R&A and I do not like them one bit.

And let's say, for the sake of argument, that they had walkie talkies and knew they were OK. It still shows common curtousey to stop and inquire in person--even just roll down the window. Just to let the others know, "I'm glad to know you're OK, good luck, see you at the finish line."

Like the majority here... I am glad to see Ray and Deana go. I think the Race is just too musch for some people's personalities

Rob and Amber....
That guy just aggravates me more all the time. he has this pattern of acting like abig jerk and then turning and grinning at the camera. What a donkey! I will be glad when they are eliminated. Does anyone else think CBS may be helping them along just a bit? Is there any chance we could get them in the Big Brother house?

Lynn and Alex...
I didn't like them at first, but they have kind of grown on me. I don't know why, but they remind me of Chip and Dale. :teeth:  Regrading the remarks they made while lost in the city, I am sure that if you asked them they would say that they were in no way racist, but sometimes in the heat of the moment our reflex reactions show something different. Trust me, it happens to us all. (For an extended insight on this read Malcolm Gladwell's "Blink")

Uchenna and Joyce...
Why are they always the ones getting lost or delayed? I felt sorry for them a couple of times last night.

Brian and Greg...
Currently my favorite team. I like their attitude. I hope they win it all.

Meredith and Gretchen...
Gretchen really impressed me last night. They are now one of my favorites.

Ron and Kelly...
I just haven't formed much of an opinion on them yet. Him being a POW, and them being southern, I want to pull for them, but haven't gotten on the bandwagon yet.
