The Amazing Race 7...official Thread

HELP!

I need some clarification on a couple of things....

1. The previews, it showed clips of a new episode, but then said one week from tonight will be a "extra scenes" shows. So, the new episode, is that in two weeks? Or is next week another 2 hour show? One hour for clips, and then the new episode?

2. the new "twist" to coming in last. Merideth and Gretchen had to hand over their packs. Merideth ask for clarification, and Phil said something about crossing the finish line. So, does that mean they will not have their packs for the rest of the race? I was talking to my sister, and all we could come up with, was this gave them an advantage over the other teams. They have their passports, and that is all they really need, they will not be bogged down with carrying heavy packs. How is this a bad thing? LOL

Ok, now on to some comments made about Rob kicking a ball with the kids, and other teams just waving, ect. I think it was 100% editing. I was surprised when Uchenna and Joyce kind of blew in and blew out of there, given their infertility, and yearning for children. But, did you hear her at the pit stop? She told Phil that the "time they spent with the children" was incredible, ect. So, I am willing to bet they they DID interact with the kids a bit, and the producer's chose not to show it. Why, I do not know. They seemed to really cash in on Gus last season at the slave tribute. I was really looking forward to seeing Joyce with the kids.

The same could be said about whether or not Rob stopped at the crash. It sure look like he didn't even slow down, but, and if anyone has it taped, could you check for me? When they showed Rob's car passing, it was followed by a cloud of dust. If they were travelling at a steady speed, the dust would be minimal, but if they stopped, and had to pull out to leave. or even slowed down and then acclerated, the car would of kicked up a good amount of dust. It is all about editing. The fact that Phil said something to them at the pit stop makes me think that they didn't stop, but maybe he knew evene then how the producer's would edit it, and he asked them about it for the drama. If they did not stop, I am glad Phil called them on it. Though, I don't think I would of stopped either, slowed down and inquired, like the other teams, but I would not of stopped. It was obvious everyone was OK, except the cameraman, but he obviously had help. A tarp was set up and he was under it, while waiting for an ambulance. So there were more people on the scene than just the brothers and the boyfriends. What good would stopping do? To stand around? I don't think so. The boyfriends should of left like the brother's told them to. There was really nothing they could do.

They never asked Rob/Amber for money. Rob overheard them asking the others and said "I'm not giving them anything." Everyone is so "I hate Rob/Amber", that they quickly forget to point out when asked, Ray said "Not right now, perhaps later on, I'll let you know." He even went on to talk to the camera about not "prolonging their misery". (Or something very close to those words.) No one's bashing them for not "donating" to Meredith/Gretchen.

.

1) next tuesday will be a regular 1 hour show. there is a special show on wednesday that shows a recap.

2) handing over your bags is a huge deal...they won't have any specialty clothing for cold weather, swim, whatever. not to mention how funky you would get wearing the same things over and over. not to mention personal things that might help...pictures, etc. They do not get them back but can find a way to get stuff they may need from other people, even backpacks, or even use their leg money if they can be conservative with it.

DH and I thought the same thing. We didn't think that they would get a new vehicle, and weren't sure what was going to happen to them. I am glad the brothers are still in it.

I wonder if that is why the brothers were asking what happens next, if they were done/gone from the race. not because of the time it would take to get the replacement vehicle but because they didn't know if they would get one. hmmmm.

I was never able to watch Rob or Amber on Survivor since I had to work those evenings. I must say that I am not impressed by either of them so far. They did not even slow down at the crash site when every other team (even Ray and Deana!) did. Poor character! Also, has anyone else noticed that Rob "can dish it out but can't take it". He was all laughing etc. when they stole the cab from the girls (I forget there names) in an earlier episode and yet when Alex & Lynn wouldn't share a cab he was B#$%ing and moaning. Amber seems to let Rob do all the talking for her. At times she comes off like a timid little mouse and it seems like she lets Rob make all the decisions for her.

Has anyone else noticed that this week there is not much extra footage of Rob & Amber on the CBS website? I wonder if the editing choices had anything to do with them showing no concern for the team that crashed and the injured cameraman.

What the boyfriends did on the bus/taxi does not compare to not even slowing down to check and make sure everyone is alright in an accident!! The boyfriends did just what Jerko and Amber did when they took the cab out from under the girls in the beginning of the race.

Yes, I believe it is against the rules to help them out like that.
But, I will say again...the brothers were standing up as was the bfs, just looking around. It was obvious that they were okay, at least breathing, no broken bones, etc. As for the guide laying on the ground, well there was already another team there, if there had been a true emergency, I think they would have been loading that man in the vehicle.
Also, how did Rob and Amber know it wasn't the bf's??? After observing above, why would they stop? I agree they could have asked everyone okay as you are still driving, like the other teams did....none of them stopped and got out.
I just think it is hypocritical to criticize Rob and Amber and not see the bfs have done some of the same. i.e. (the bus/taxi)

Don't you just love the foot races???? Either for first place or for not being eliminated....

I yelled when I saw the brothers catching up....

I don't think that Rob and Amber were not concerned. When they passed by the accident, there was another team already stopped. The guys were walking around and there were lots of other people around. I would have liked to see them slow down, but they didn't and I can understand that because it is a race and Rob is very competitive. Plus, noone on the race has been nice to them...and this was from the beginning based only on their personas from Survivor. I also think editing has a lot to do with it.

I have not really like Rob and Amber for some time. Last night confirmed my feelings. Yes it is a game but when human life is on the line, something else has to matter. The fact that Phil mentioned the wreck to Rob and Amber confirms to me that a line was crossed.

Here is another way to look at it......when you are driving along the highway and see and accident most people will stop to help in anyway possible. BUT when you see that there is medical help there you tend to make a comment to other passengers in the car and keep on driving.

If I had been the first on the scene yes (even with a million dollars at stake) I would have stopped BUT by the time Rob and Amber got there the medical staff was already tending to the camera man.....so no I can see why they wouldn't stop.

Just my opinion.....

Have a magical Disney Day!!:)

DH and I thought the same on this. We said if it were us and there was other people there already and they were obviously OK, we would not have stopped either! Rob did disappoint me a little bit last night with his attitude in general (editing helped I'm sure) but all in all I still like them. I was sooooo happy to see Ray get beaten. HIS attitute stunk, I hated the way he treated Deanna. I was busting out of my seat when he yelled at her for not paying attention to the signs...Hello!! she's driving, YOU should be watching the signs.

Ray and Deana I didn't like them. After the first of tonight's episodes I told my friend over the phone that I was beginning to dislike them more than TTWSNBN. Of course after the second ep, that was no longer true. However, I was still glad they were canned. Ray was totally obnoxious and they also refused to help Gretchen and Meredith. All that money sure helped them on the finish line, didn't it? I was impressed that they did the Fast Forward so well. I was sure one of them would fall. I am bummed that they won cars. Darn fine consolation prize.

Wouldn't it have been great to see Gretchen and Meredith go up to Ray and Deanna after they were eliminated and say, "Since we are entering into another leg of the race , and it appears you wont be needing it any longer, may we now have some money?"

Lisa Loves Pooh:
It isn't obligatory to share money. It isn't obligatory to help other teams in any way. And in past shows--sometimes helping comes back and bites the helpers in the butt...so each request for assistance must be strategically dealt with. Ray and Deana didn't give them money either--guess they don't need their money now .

See Disney:
Also remember the comment that the Jerk - whatever is name is -- said to the cameraman that he didn't want to give any money to the old couple "why prolong their agony to get eliminated???"

ILoveDMB:
I thought so, too. Ray is such a jerk. Why is he so mean to Gretchen and Meredith? It's not like they pose a really big threat. I think they are in it for the fun factor. She always gets that excited look on her face when she finds out the next new place they are going to.

The thing that bothers me about the accident is that a person was hurt. So what if it wasn't the actual contestants? I would have been concerned.

I'm glad Ray and Deanna are gone. Ray is a jerk and Deanna is a whiny, un-confident, drag to be around. Even though his comment that being with her on the race was "depressing" was rude and cutting - I can see why he would feel that way.

I like Gretchen and Meredith, she really hung in there well after getting hurt and didn't even complain about having to do tasks afterward. They are a nice couple.

The brothers' win was very emotional! My favorites are Uchenna & Joyce, the brothers, and Gretchen & Meredith.

That's exactly how she won Survivor All Stars. By sittiing back quietly and letting Rob do all the dirty work for her.

Now, I have not seen last night's show yet. But, I do think people would have stopped if the same thing happened to R&A. And yes, they were already being helped, but would it have killed R&A to stop and say "Hey, are you OK? What happened?". That's just common curtousey. And it's different than stopping for just anyone on the side of the road. They knew these people. I would want to know that they were OK (but apparantly someone was hurt) before driving off and wondering what happened for the rest of the race. Just for my own peace of mind. R&A not even slowing down shows that they just didn't care at all.

Your analogy really makes no sense. In that case, you don't personally know the people who are in the accident. A more realistic comparison would be this: Lets say your kid's soccer team has an away game and you and the other parents are all driving to the game. One car gets in an accident and you see the family (whom you know) on the side of the road, another soccer family standing with them and medical help is already there. Do you just blow by them so you can get to the game on time? Or, do you check on them to make sure they are OK?

TTWSNBN knew the people who had the accident. I just watched the footage again (I love my ReplayTV ;)) and it shows them driving by the accident at a reasonable clip. The cameraman shows the accident scene go by outside the rolled up window and then another shot shows the car kicking up lots of dust as it goes on it's way.

Another thing ... medical help was not on the scene. As Lynn and Alex leave we hear one of the brothers say "The doctor's on the way.".

I have only one word to say.....

EDITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, people said and did things that APPEAR questionable, but the editing plays a big part in it.

Other comments:

Rob and Amber

I wouldn't have stopped either. It is a race, there are tons of medics within a short distance and the producers are in constant communication with the teams. I have no medical training, so no, I wouldn't have stopped. I do believe that Rob's comments were harsh, but right on. Also, no one seems to have mentioned that Rob said that he didn't want to win because people get hurt or something like that. As for the Fast Forward, I would have waited too. That was pretty difficult, and if Ray and Deanna failed, Rob and Amber would have gotten the fast forward. I would have taken the risk too, especially given Deanna's attitude throughout the race.

Lynn and Alex
It may again have been editing, but I thought their comments were pretty terrible and derogatory, especially the Tupac thing. I also thought it appeared he was standing really close at the spear throwing thing. They just annoy me to no end. The have long crossed the line from mildly amusing to just plain annoying.

Brothers
I am glad they beat Ray and Deanna to the pit stop. I also give them kudos for figuring out that the water challenge was easier than the grain (except for Rob and Amber, what were the other teams thinking????). I especially liked their comments in the cave about the sleeping bag.

Joyce and Uwchenna
Again, they have done nothing to impress me. I don't hate or like them. Still pretty neutral on them. I don't blame them though for not spending more time at the orphanage. They are trying to win a million dollars. They can research adoption at home after the race.

Gretchen and Meredith
Even though I don't really like them, they have impressed me. I disagree with all the posters saying that the other teams should have given them money/possessions. They are a THREAT, just like every other team. They actually improved their standings this week. I wouldn't have given them anything either.

Ron and Kelly
I am disliking them more and more each week. Kelly isn't too bad, but Ron is so rude to her. He definitely has an I am Male ex-military and therefore am better than you type attitude. I really don't like him at all and I think they are one of those teams the show cast thinking would be fan favorites, but they have been pretty dull and unlikable so far.

Ray and Deanna
Glad to see them go. He was a jerk and she was a whiner. I don't blame him for saying some of the things he said to her, she deserved most of them. Definitely won't miss them.

Here are the times the teams left for the first episode:

Rob & Amber 3:00 am

Brian & Greg 3:38 am

Joyce & Uchenna 5:49 am

Ron & Kelly 6:05 am

Lynn & Alex 6:11 am

Ray & Deana 9:20 am

Gretchen & Meredith 9:35 am

Everyone ended up on the same airplane to South Africa.

Here are the times for the second episode.

8:00 am Lion Feeding

Ray & Deana 10:41 pm
The fast forward in the first episode gave Ray & Deana an almost two hour lead, but didn't really matter because of the Lion task.

Ron & Kelly 12:39 am

Brian & Greg 1:03 am

------------------------------------------------------------------------
9:00 am Lion Feeding

Lynn & Alex 1:24 am

Rob & Amber 1:33 am

Joyce & Uchenna 2:20 am
(they really got lost I guess - checked in last)

Gretchen & Meredith 3:51 am

As far as Rob & Amber stopping when Greg & Brian wrecked, I thought Rob put it pretty well... You don't want to see anybody get hurt, but it is a race/competition. :moped:

I just want to take a look at comments that Lynn made to Alex while driving through Johannesburg. People seem to be upset about what they said, so I reviewed my ReplayTV recording to try to understand why.

Lynn and Alex make a wrong turn (twice!) and end up off the highway and are driving though a rough area of Johannesburg. Johannesburg is known for its high crime and car jackings.

Alex: "This looks like a scary area."
Lynn: "Lock the doors."
Lynn: "Now I feel super scared."

Driving into an even seedier area ...
Lynn: "Oh my God. This is like Compton."

A man comes up to their car window with his hand out.
Both: "No. No. No."
Lynn: "Alex, roll up the window."

Alex: "Just pull over anywhere. I'm going to ask someone to drive us."
Lynn: "Pick someone who looks least likely to have a gun."
Alex: "What about these people?"

Alex gets out of the car and starts to ask for help.
Lynn: "Oh yeah. It's Tupac."

So, exactly what did you find troubling in that segment? The comarison to a high crime area in Africa to one in America? The fact that Lynn commented that someone looked like Tupac? Something else?

I thought last night's episode was pretty good. I have a question for all those who fault Romber for not stopping...How many times have you seen an accident where someone else had already stopped and you knew the accident had been called in and actually stopped yourself. If I witness an accident or am the first to arrive I stop...other than that I don't nor would I expect Romber to stop when the boyfriends were already there and we all know it had been called in due to the myriad of other people we don't see on camera. I think it was stupid of the boyfriends to wait as long as they did. The brothers urged them to get going even before Romber went by. If I was the boyfriends being the first to see it I would have stopped made sure all was ok and left....which might have actually led to Romber stopping since they wouldn't have seen another team already stopped.

Actually the pit stops are either 12 or 36 hours. Most are 12, but there are a few 36 hour stops in there as well.

As for not stopping at the accident scene, it was rumored that the teams can hear what is going on through the walkie-talkies of the crew. This was reasoned why teams seem to slow down going into pit stops when they know that all the teams have already arrived. Rob and Amber most likely knew exactly what was going on and did not stop to perform a polite action of asking if everyone was okay. If it were me, most likely I would not have stopped either. I just saw a car flipped over on the side of the road. Obviously there is a danger in the road so a little more attention should be placed on driving and preventing another vehicle from flipping over. I'm sure if Rob would have asked a question, the boyfriends would have some sort of smart remark back at them since there is an obvious animosity there.
