The Amazing Race 7...official Thread

Amazing Race is a game - but is it really a "do whatever you have to to win" game? I'd be interested to hear what would have to happen to make any of us stop playing for a time. Football is a game too - and we're talking more money there but they still stop if someone gets hurt. I wonder how badly someone would have to be injured before the producers would somehow call a "time-out" and have everyone stay where they are.

And at what point do contestants sacrifice their basic humanity if they don't stop to at least inquire about someone's health. When Lynn and Alex stopped there was obviously an injured man and no medical aid. I think they were right to stop. It was also right for the other teams to at least see if there was anything that they could do.

As I said earlier I have EMT training so I would stop and help. What other things would you stop for?

Unless we were the first ones on the scene of the accident and people were not standing around surveying the damage, I doubt I would have stopped during the race either.

I totally do not blame Rob and Amber for not stopping. I bet if it had been them there would have been a lot of cheering going on as the other teams drove by them - especially from the boyfriends.

Even if they did roll down the window and ask if everyone was okay, I'm sure Alex and Lynn would have picked apart anything Rob had said to try to make it sound like he was being sarcastic or a bad person.

We never did see Gretchen ask Rob and Amber for money. I think R&A kind of faded off to the side when they started begging for money so that they would be overlooked. Who knows what could have happened off camera though.. they could have said no or they may have given them a couple of bucks. Rob speaks a tough game but he is often a lot softer than his words. He and Amber have been the most respectful and polite team when it comes to interacting with the local people in the countries they are in. Rob even stopped to kick the soccer ball a couple of times with the kids at the orphanage while most of the other teams just ran past waving like celebrities or something.

I just don't understand why ALL the teams have the hatred towards R&A. I remember in the first couple of episodes where Rob actually did help Ron and Kelly, Joyce and Uchenna and another team out by telling them to follow him (I think it was on the bus where he paid the driver to open just the front doors)

You'll all probably laugh and call me an idiot, but I would have offered them a ride. Maybe I would have regretted it during the next challenge I don't know, but If I was one of the first 5 what's wrong with letting the brothers be 6 :confused3

Rob is an obnoxious pig and Amber is as dumb as a doornail. She can't even make a decision. The only way she was able to complete the shopping task is because she had help. Felt sorry for Deanna, being stuck with that jerk Ray. Thank god he is gone.

If the clue said drive yourself then I don't think they could have taken the ride, but im not positive.

I think so to...

but isn't it funny that mostly they get a replacement vehicle when theirs is disabled "through no fault of their own".

I wonder what they'd have to do to not get it.

[funny = odd, not humourous]

Yes, I believe it is against the rules to help them out like that.
But, I will say again...the brothers were standing up as was the bfs, just looking around. It was obvious that they were okay, at least breathing, no broken bones, etc. As for the guide laying on the ground, well there was already another team there, if there had been a true emergency, I think they would have been loading that man in the vehicle.
Also, how did Rob and Amber know it wasn't the bf's??? After observing above, why would they stop? I agree they could have asked everyone okay as you are still driving, like the other teams did....none of them stopped and got out.
I just think it is hypocritical to criticize Rob and Amber and not see the bfs have done some of the same. i.e. (the bus/taxi)

yep - and she proved that when they were at the Fast Forward...Rob kept pressing her, and she couldn't make up her mind.

Did anyone else notice that very few people know that Merideth is a man and Gretchen is a female? I heard at least 3-4 times last night "Her and Gretchen are blah blah blah". hehehehe

Glad to see Ray/Deanna gone...I actually LIKE how some of these pit stops turn into foot races...glad to see the brothers are still in it.

But Rob took money from the other teams (and didn't kick in any of HIS money) to bribe the bus driver. Kinda smart but hardly "nice".

I haven't read through all the pages in this thread, but I am curious about something. How much time passes from pit stop to pit stop? Are we watching 24 hours edited into 1 hour or is it a few days? DH, DSs, and I wonder about this each week. I know the pit stop is 12 hours, but do they eat at other times, shower, laundry?

Thanks,
Karen

Ray & Deanna were just on the Early Show.

They showed the clip where he wouldn't give any $$ to Gretchen & Meredith & where he said he didn't want to prolong their misery. He apologized to G&M and said he was trying to be funny but it obviously didn't come off that way. He said he didn't give 'em money because they were a threat & it's a race & he wasn't going to help anyone that could come back & beat him.

Deanna said that Ray proposed in December & he couldn't be more different than he appeared on the show. He's a sweet guy...yada yada yada....he was portrayed that way on the show. Ray went on to say that he said the stuff, he put it out there, so he wasn't upset with the way he was portrayed.

I'm glad someone finally said that. If he hadn't said that stuff, they wouldn't have been able to put it on screen.

Karen B,

In answer to your question, I believe pit stop to pit stop is roughly around 24 to 36 hours.

I remember reading or hearing an interview with a past couple that there's so little time to just REST. YOu're always on the move and running and racing.

Thanks SeeDisney! DH has been reading some behind the scenes stuff he thought was interesting. I haven't gone to the site but may try later today. It is linked to cbs.com.

When they first started the rule of taking all of the couple's money in a non-elimination round in past AR's, those people had to beg for money. The other people didn't share with them. Would some of the other teams have been so willing to share if it had been a different team that came in last? I can see them feeling sorry for the older couple and not considering them a threat.

Usually it isn't necessary--especially when they drive on their own. Unless the clue actually says to bring it along. It isn't required.

or depending on where they are. don't forget last season jonathan (pig) wanted to drop their bags to run to the pit stop but victoria wasn't comfortable leaving them in the middle of a busy interesection in Berlin (it was berlin, wasn't it?) so she picked his up. doubt his would have been there sitting for him later if she hadn't. idiot.

I totally agree with the money and possession items. The team should have to get them from somewhere else. How is it a penalty if it is so easy to overcome?

BTW, did anyone else think Lynn was standing closer than the others during the Bushman Detour? It certainly didn't look like he was 20 ft away from his moving target.

DH noticed too, he kept saying doesn't he look a lot closer than everyone else?

but isn't it funny that mostly they get a replacement vehicle when theirs is disabled "through no fault of their own".

DH and I thought the same thing. We didn't think that they would get a new vehicle, and weren't sure what was going to happen to them. I am glad the brothers are still in it.
