The Amazing Race 7...official Thread

My two cents on the flight delay thing.........
Of course CBS cannot help one team over another.

However, flight time was 9:30am. Unless the flight took a delay there is no way they would have made the flight, even leaving at 9am with a 25mile drive. You have to park the car, check in, get seat assignments, make it to the gate and then walk up to the stairs in this case. They would have closed out the flight at approximately 9:15am assuming all passengers had boarded. TTWMNBN did not have a prior reservation on the flight, so they wouldn't have known they were coming and thus hold the flight for them.
I thought the reaction from the Customer Service Agent was really strange when TTWMNBN asked if they could make the flight. He just had a funny look on his face and said, yes.

Remember last season when "Devil Hair" and his girlfriend were 10 minutes before flight time, but they had closed out the flight and they had an argument about getting on.

Also, with so little time arriving at the airport, the editing sure didn't make it look like anyone was rushing/running/out of breath to make the flight?????

Yes, flights get delayed. But it appeared that there was no problem, weather was fine, no other passengers hanging around. All booked passengers had boarded. It clearly looked to me that they were holding the flight for some reason :confused3

I think the airline was tipped off that another couple were directly behind the others. I also believe that it was the airlines choice to stay or go. But I think there is more to the story. Of course, nothing can be proved. But it did sure make good TV......

I think the difference here is TTWSNBN DID have a reservation on the flight. Remember, there were enough seats for five teams on that flight. So, the prducer's had to pre-book the teams on both flights. Not knowing the order that each team would be coming in, they probably booked the 10 seats, and gave the airline a list if all the teams, and told them that any of those people would be using the reservations.

Did that even make sense? LOL.

TTWSNBN was at the desk at 9:25Am. They already had a reservation, so all they had to do was check their luggage.

I recall in an earlier season of AR, there was a team who got on a plane last minute, because the plane had a delay. They were allowed on.

Yep, they definitely had a reservation. I remember at least one of the teams showing up at the counter saying "We have a reservation".

More than one team said that they had a "Reservation" So the seats were booked. Now when Rob/Amber got there, they asked if they had mae it in time to get on the plane. The airline said that they were, and they held the plane for them. Because while they were walking out to the plane, Rob, said that the airline was holding the plane, and wan't that nice of them.

So how much validation is everyone putting into the betting rumors (and the suspension of gambling on the outcome of AR) of ...........winning. (don't want to spoil in case there are people who have not read about this) If it is this couple I am happy for them but unhappy for me that I would know ahead of time.

This particular rumor has been alot stronger than prior ARs. I am going to be really upset if someone leaked it and spoiled it for the rest of us.

Comments??

Have a magical Disney Day!!

Yes, but how do we know that the airline would not of held the plane (for a reasonable amount of time) for any one of the teams coming to the airport 5th? The producer's booked seats for 5 teams. 4 teams were on the plane, TTWSNBN got there before take off, they were allowed on, their seat was bought and paid for.

The plane looked like a "hopper", and it looked completely empty of other passengers. Maybe the show did more than just buy tickets for the teams, maybe they chartered the whole plane. If that were the case, the airport would not care how long the plane sat there waiting for the 5th team.

Hi all. Newbie here. Didn't realize there was an AR thread here at the DisBoards. I love the race. I've got my husband, boys, Mom and Aunt all hooked now. Have read through all the back threads so I don't know what all ya'll talk about. I do love Rob and Amber. They have got luck beyond belief. I found him entertainingly irritating on Survivor also. I'm probably hate him if I was racing against him, but watching, it's so much fun! LOL

Just thought I'd drop in to say hey!

They close out the flights in the US at 10 minutes prior but this was in Argentina so who knows when they close out flights. Also when the brothers got to the counter they said it was 9:25am. Assuming that Romber were getting to the airport at the same time as the bro's were checking in, they would have gotten to the counter probably right at 9:30am and the airline did hold the flight for them.

I really don't care how they made the plane. I'm just happy they did even if it was only to piss off the other teams. :rotfl2:

I too don't believe that CBS had anything to do with Rob and Amber getting on that plane. I know there's been talk about Amber saying it was 9:00 and the flight was at 9:30 and they had a 25 mile drive ahead of them. But as someone else had said, how do you know Amber didn't round off the time or maybe Amber said it was "almost" 9:00 and they editted the "almost" out. It could have been 8:40 for all we know.

This makes the most sense to me. AR probably blocked off seats for 5 teams, and the first 5 that came got those seats. They must have waited because the 5th team wasn't too far behind, and they then would have been part of the group booking. I would think that because the flight wasn't very full that day the airline agreed to hold it for a small amount of time.

This is probably why TTWMNBN appeared they knew that they should make it, and nobody looked in much of a hurry to get to the plane.

Nuke - I would imagine that Aerolenas (sp?) Argentina would have the same close out policy. Most airlines do. That plane would have to be somewhere next as it was a jet - looked like a 737. To hold it for 15 minutes or so wouldn't have mattered that much, especially to accomodate a large group of Americans with their camera crews!

That might be a policy but having to be somewhere isn't a real urgency in South America. :rotfl:

Ain't that the truth. I had friends who were in Peru last year. They had an experience that's too long to tell, but to make a long stroy short, a French tour group was able to bribe airport officials and manipulate a situation so that they could get onto an overbooked flight, leaving other passengers with passage behind. It ook my friends two days to get home.

ITA!!!! :rotfl:
one of my favorite AR moments!

Looking forward to the 2 hour show-I hope no one gets too hurt!
I think the brothers are still my favorites, but I don't mind Rob and Amber. Gretchen's voice is very annoying but I think they are doing well. Lynn and Alex were really bugging me with their Romber whining and I liked them up until last week. Ray is such an intense weirdo and Deanna is always complaining-why even do the race? Joyce and Ucheanna (sp?) are ok but I like him better than her for some reason. Maybe they will consider adopting a child after next week. POW and Beauty Queen (I can't think of the names) are a bit boring-no personality.

okay...be honest....if you were driving near the brothers and saw their SUV wreck, would you stop to check it out or keep going? Assuming we were in the AR of course...

I also think that Rob and Amber were a little off on their time....an earlier thread reported they left the overnight place right before 7am and the stables were about 20miles away...i know they got lost but Rob did a great job on horseback and getting it done on the first try...i think they really left a little before 9am and you are probably right that rob sped all the way esp since they knew the early flight was their best hope!

i used to work for an airline (prior to 9/11) and it was not uncommon for us to hold a flight for a few minutes if someone was checking in last, especially a VIP, which Rob and Amber would have been considered to be....

I am very ready for Ray to go...he was downright mean with his comments...I am proud of Gretchen and Meredith for doing so well...realistically i don't think they will win but they sure have been resilient! I am hoping Gretchen is not hurt too badly next week...

actually, I just watched that episode again and there were definately other people on the plaane who weren't part of the race, you can see them as the teams walk onto the airline, so I don't think the airline held the flight specifically for Romber
