The Amazing Race 6...Official Thread

Phil takes away ALL of their money. They start with zero.

I know that Phil takes their money away. I was just wondering if people who do not come in last, can they ask for money, just to have extra. Like the example I gave of Bolo and Lori at the train station. They slept at the train station because they ran out of money, not because Phil took it away from them. I was wondering why they didn't ask for money so they could have slept in a hotel. In a lot of episodes people will make reference to the fact they are running low on money. Why don't they just ask people for more money? Is there a rule they can't or has no one thought to do that?

After watching last night when Hayden and Aaron had to ask for money since they lost all of it for coming in last, I was thinking how come the contestants don't ask people for money on every leg, just to have a little extra. ARe they only allowed to ask if their money is taken away or has no one thought to do that? I was just thinking when Bolo and Lori had to sleep in the train station because they had no money for a hotel, why didn't they just ask people for some money?
I'm sure there's no rule about "begging". I just think that it's a big lesson in humility to have to beg people for money. I think they don't do it because they don't want to and don't need to. Hayden and Aaron needed money for the ferry last night. They didn't have any.

I too was wondering why teams wouldn't not beg for extra money during the whole race. Then they would have extra cash to spend on taxis for shorter distances instead of trying to run or walk everywhere. They could also spend it to hire guides or taxi drivers to follow.

Did anyone see J & V on the early show this morning? I'd love to know what was said.

I taped it, but I didn't see them on. I know people are talking about it, but I couldn't find them.

I'm sure there isn't any rule. A couple of years ago there were a couple of female Harvard Law School grads on the show. They started flirting with guys in the first airport of the first show, and then asked for money. They didn't do that after that. I don't think it was against the rules. It just is humiliating and takes time, and people don't often run into money problems anyway.

I saw the show, and they were asked if they could explain their behavior. J said that he is not happy with the person he saw on the screen and that he is a better person than that. He also said he didn't know the person on the screen, but that he is very competitive and that he has apologised to V in private. He said he took a deep look at himself and tried to make adjustments to make sure that person doesn't come out again.

V was asked if she ever saw that side of him before and she replied that he has always been intense, but she never saw him with that intesity before. She went on to say that their biggest problem was that they both got too serious about the race and too intent on winning.

In regard to the shoving incident, J said that it was wrong and he has no excuses for it, and that he didn't know she picked up his pack and when he realized that she did he was so upset and that being so competitive he turned all compassion off to everything he did on the race. He went on to say that he went on the show intending to be the villain and it just got away from him.

V said that when she cut her finger on the nail she was so broken at that point because she didn't have any sleep, hadn't eaten, had to use the bathroom, and was really exhausted, that she just panicked because it was so deep. She then went to J's defense saying she told him to keep doing the race, and not to stop, but that they didn't show that. They both said they are such fans of the show and that the spirit of the show got away from them. When asked if there was peace in their relationship, they said yes absolutely and that they had many good times on the race, but they didn't show any of it.

I'm not sure what to think of them, I think they are very good at smoothing things over, hopefully watching the show did give them a jolt to re-evaluate what is important to them

I hope for next season they do away with taking all the money from the last place teams in the non-elimination round. So far we've seen it used four times (twice each in AR4 and AR5), and it hasn't really hurt any team yet. I would like to see them come up with a more interesting way to penalize the last place teams.

ITA - I don't think it holds them back at all and I think its embarassing. I really don't like the idea of people begging money from those who have next to nothing in order to win a race and potentially win alot of money, KWIM?

I do think they should have some sort of penalty for the non-elim's but perhaps a time limit or some other set back may be more "appropriate".

We were cheering here - na, na, na, na - J&V miss ya (NOT).

I hope they have more race to come and less of the even ing out of the pack like hours of operation etc. I must say that I loved it when the two teams who were saved by the non-elim and and the $ stripped came in 1st.

I just got a chance to watch it last night. Of course I was thrilled with the result!

However, in the end when you're waiting to see who is last, I kept thinking what a win/win situation it was. Either J/V gone or Hellboy and Rebecca. I can't stand either team, LOL!

Kendra really needs to learn some more compassion. She finally found some after her asthma attack, but I'll bet that it's gone as quickly as it came.

I like Kris and Jon the best, and I can live with Hayden and Aaron as well. Lori and Bolo get on my nerves screaming at each other.

Did anyone see ET last night?!?! Dr. Phil is having J&V on a special about relationships that is supposed to air mid-February! I'm not sure I want to watch but in the end I probably will. Jonathan also started a little "group" of reality show villians, although he didn't use the word villians. Even the local newscasters were saying "finally eliminated team of J&V..."
I just hope CBS learns from it's mistakes of J&V and Colin from last year. I hope they're not going to make it a habit of trying to "out-do" the previous year's bad guy!!

Hi to all...........

Joining in the celebration :Pinkbounc :jumping4: :Pinkbounc :jumping4:

J/V needed to go - maybe now the race can really get started.

Just wondering - Why would Rebecca (and Adam even though I don't count him in the decision making process - Rebecca calls all the shots) listen to Jonathan and yield F/K. The last thing I would do is listen to Jonathan....

Doin the happy dance!! :cool1: :cool1:

Have a magical Disney Day!! :earboy2:

I don't think that Rebecca and Adam realized that J&V had to go back to get the other donkey. I think they thought that they were in second to last place and yielded Freddy and Kendra so they could have a better lead.

I agree. Even though J/V told them to yield Freddy and Kendra, Rebecca said F/K were their competition when she used the yield. How many times have Freddy and Kendra come in first place? LOTS!! I think Rebecca was trying to get rid of the strongest players.

I could be wrong.........but I thought Jonathan asked them to yield them so that they had a chance of remaining in the race because they did have to go back for the donkey?? Because when he was getting ready to run off for his donkey - he asked Adam/Rebecca "so what is the answer yield / no yield - and they told Jonathan they did".

No you're right, all that happened. But when Rebecca gave her explanation of why they were using the yield against Freddy and Kendra, she said something about Freddy and Kendra being their biggest threat/competition (unless I dreamed that - maybe someone with it on tape or TIVO can confirm). Nothing about helping Jon and Vic. I agree that Kendra and Freddy seem like the most dangerous couple now, kind of like Colin and Kristie last season, seems like everything goes their way. I think they were more threatened by Freddy and Kendra than annoyed by Jon and Vic.

I know earlier in the show Rebecca had commented about not being worried about J/V because they would self destruct - she simply didn't consider them competition. What I didn't get is why she didn't just tell Kendra that when she questioned her. Why make enemies? She should have just told her she considers them the stronger team - that way she explained and complemented at the same time. Instead she said "my, so many questions" in a snotty voice. I'm sure that went over well.

What is she going to say, "We did it because Jonathan said so"? I just don't think they would have done it if they hadn't been asked (or told) by Jonathan.

They didn't like Jonathan and Victoria either. They had several run ins with them. Remember Johathan yelling at Hellboy for following them? It is my opinion that they saw what they thought was an opportunity to get rid of the strongest players and took it.

Ok, so I know we've discussed this before & most of you were against it, but I am glad, cuz I like them. As least some of you will have someone to root against before the show even airs! ;)

Rob, Amber confirmed as Amazing Race contestants

As we reported earlier this week, and as the Internets have been buzzing about since late last year, Amber Brkich and Rob Mariano are officially a team on The Amazing Race 7. Executive producer and series creator Bertram van Munster says "They're a very strong team, very competitive," and says "You see them as a team rather than as singles competing." Co-creator Elise Doganieri noted that being on the show is "something that strengthens a team or tears them apart," and adds of Rob and Amber, "I'm sure they had intimate discussions we didn't hear, but they're a strong team. They work well together.

Here's another article from Realityblurred.com:

Jonathan: "the shove in Berlin was wrong"; Victoria: "We don't fight like that."

Unless something really important happens, or unless some nitwit casts them for an all-star Amazing Race, I promise that this is the last time I'll post about Jonathan and Victoria. Because, to be honest, I hate them both so ... much ... the flames, flames, on the side of my face... Anyway, now that they've been eliminated from The Amazing Race 6, I have no reason to care. In an extended interview with TV Guide, the couple address all of our burning questions (yes, they're still together; yes, Jonathan is pure evil in human form), and Jonathan remembers to repeat most of the excuses, although he has forgotten about the stress and medication one. Maybe most significantly, Jonathan says that "[t]he shove in Berlin was wrong. It was wrong and I should not have done it. I can't apologize any more because I really felt that it hurt." He doesn't really apologize any more, but does blame the editing ("If we gave them 200 percent, why did they have to use 200 percent? They could have used 180 percent.") and his persona ("We went into this knowing we were going to be the villains, so I almost gave myself permission to be bad."), and also compares himself to Colin and Christie. For her part, Victoria also blames the editing ("I shrugged it off a lot, and I also gave it back to him a lot. They didn't always show me telling him 'Get away from me' or 'Back off' or just defending myself.") Of the shove, she says "that moment in Berlin was a heavy moment for us, and probably one of the most dramatic moments in our relationship. We don't fight like that; we're not physical with each other. So having the worst moment of your relationship aired on national television was pretty tough."

In the Providence Journal, J-dog comes up with a new way of framing his excuses, and this one is incredible: "It was CBS who pointed the gun at Victoria" and "took no responsibility for what it showed." The paper reports that "the couple alleged it [CBS] also actively worked to bring about such incidents. The show subjects contestants to unrelenting stress." Victoria says, "We knew we were going to give the other teams a hard time and shake things up. We didn't know they were going to put such a negative spin on our relationship." And Victoria also blames the network, noting that because a camera was visible in the shoving shot, "It shows this decision had to go way up the line."

+ plus: the couple will be back on CBS primetime with their own Dr. Phil special in February. :crazy2:
