The Amazing Race 6...Official Thread

I just watched this show for the first time last week and am hooked! So, what's the deal w/the models and the bandanas? Why are they always wearing them? Also, was anyone else worried that Don was going to have a heart attack at some point in last night's episode? Does anyone else get tired of the woman (sorry...don't know her name) and her "baby" talk? I can't stand it -- Come on "Baby", You can do it "Baby", etc.

"6 hours of sleep in 4 days"

WHY? Each teams has a mandatory rest period of 12 hours at each pit stop. They can use it to eat, sleep, catch up with other teams, sight see, ect. So what are they doing in their 12 hours that they have only gotten 6 hours of sleep in 36 possible hours? Not to mention, not that sleeping on a bus is very restful, but did you see how far Stockholm was from where they got on the bus? It looked like a very long bus ride.

ME! I am sick of the "Baby" talk too...I understand pet names, but even "Babe" sounds a bit more grown-up....or refer to him by his name every once in awhile. It reminds me of my dear best friend and her DH- they rarely call their child by his name- it's ALWAYS Mister or Buddy...I joked with my mom to count how many times they said it on Thanksgiving day....we lost count but it was a LOT!

Maybe the models wear the bandannas to cover up any bad hair day mishaps..

I will miss Lena and Kristy---they did an admirable job...correct me if I am wrong, but all the teams that are left are man/woman teams...the first 3 to be eliminated were all the same gender teams...

I guess now I am rooting for either the couple that came in 2nd last night or the father daughter team. They seem to work together fairly well, except for the getting lost last night...but at least they didn't snap at each other like some of the other teams would have.

Well, I must not be paying enough attention. I'm not sure who the models are, don't remember any bandanas and don't remember anyone saying "baby". Hmmm. I 'll have to go back and check.

I don't really think that Don was trying to cheat. I think he was just tired and joking. He obviously can't have the IKEA guy help him and he knows that. I did find it strange that we just now heard about their penalty for taking someone's car. Why didn't they address that on the last show when they checked in?

I'm sorry to see the sisters go. That must've been rough for them. I'm glad Phil finally came out and told them they were eliminated. I agree, I think it was just dumb luck that she couldn't find the clue.

I like the team that came in second. Did you notice that they and the first place team walked up to the pit stop together? Do you think team #2 let the others go first so that they would win the trip? If they did, that was very nice of them.

Well, I think some of these legs last more than a day, counting travel time. So there probably wasn't 36 hours of eat, sleep and mingle time. Maybe Bolo can't sleep on planes and buses; it's hard for me to do that.

And I suppose they have to prepare for the next leg by studying maps and stuff when they do get their break. And they need to clean up a little, wash their clothes, etc. Plus I would think Lori and Bolo need to lift weights, do cardio, drink a protein shake and take their "vitamins." :rolleyes1

That's Kris and Jon, and they're my favorites too! They seem to be having more fun than the rest of the teams put together. Of course Victoria and Jonathon are actually subtracting from the fun total, so that's probably not a fair comparison. But Kris has a big smile on her face all the time.

I caught Bolo's counting mistake too. Wonder how many times he did that?

I can't believe the sisters were out there that long! Phil said they figured the went through 100 of the bales out of .. what was it, 270?? They must have missed a clue somehow in the hurry.

Here's what really ticked me off about that. They let them go through those bales of hay for an extra two plus hours, in the dark. I know they want Phil to go there to tell them they're eliminated to make for good TV but, this was just cruel.

Lastly - I thought it was unfair that Don and MJ got the same 30 minute penalty as Freddy and Kendra (I think) did the week before. They went back and returned the car, while Freddy never did make it right. I guess Don and MJ's penalty was fair, but then Freddy's penalty should have been a lot more. I'd say an hour at least.

I disagree--taking a second clue (minor IMHO--given they were the last team to pick one up--what happened to just leaving clues there for the amount of contestants?) is much better than taking someone else's mode of transportation--and the fact that Don and MJ (that's the car couple, right--otherwise disregard post) took someone else's car...their only source of transportation--with all of their stuff. I am sure that is clearly in the rules which is why hell boy and what's her name didn't take someone else's car. It bothered me that they were actually debating on whether or not they should take it back...I would have been perturbed myself if my vehicle with my stuff was taken and set me back in getting to the pit stop.

My guess is the producers figured they'd punished themselves enough already, given how much time they lost taking the car back. ya know?

First off--the staff was probably hoping the same thing--the clue will be in the next one...As far as being cruel--I don't think it cruel at all--last season, the NY fellows had to actually "quit" when they were in Egypt and then Phil came over--it still took a while even though the boys had surrendered.

The girls never quit. The crew probably relayed back to the Pit Stop crew and a decision was made to send Phil out. I think it is Phil and only Phil who can say that the team has been eliminated. The producer's can't just walk out and say--well that's it, game over for you!!

Remember Team Guido of Season 1--they weren't informed about both teams crossing the finish line until they got to a clue box to receive the message. So I don't think it is necessarily television--you can't just interrupt the game even if they were dead last. I think that Phil is the only one who can do anything!

Regarding Victoria and *ahem* her husband...now I have never witnessed abuse before--so I'm watching and reading the thread...saw the near backslap--Now is it just me, or did anyone else notice a change in his behavior after that point. I remember the tease on the Hay scene in the commercial with him hollering VICTORIA!!! thinking, oh boy, he's probably yelling her through the detour. But he wasn't doing that--yelling yes, but not to finish--he was hollering for her to settle down and slow down and breathe. After that--they seemed pretty darn compatible.

Do you think something was called to his attention during the game--or perhaps he's thinking 10 steps ahead to not physically abuse her on television??? I don't recall them previewing abuse in next week's episode, so perhaps he is toning it down a bit. (Not a blue hair fan--just an observation I had of last night's episode!).

Finally--these last three pit stops seemed so sad--maybe it's b/c these people are just trying so hard and it hasn't been stupid mistakes that led to their elimination--The boys, The girls (I think the dumb part was not learning how to drive a stick before AR), and the sisters. I'm ready for a GOOD elimination!

I agree. That is the first thing I would do if I got picked for the race, learn how to drive stick. Duh! I didn't feel much pity for them.

I came up with the 36 hours of possible sleep time because of the manatory 12 hours of rest at each pit stop. What goes on in between those 12 hours has nothing to do with each pit stop.( a leg may take 2 days, but when they get to the pit stop, there is their 12 hours) OK, I just realized that last night's pit stop was the 3rd one, so I correct my original time, and say they had 24 possible sleep hours. These hours are mandatory, so again I ask, why have they only had 6 hours of sleep?

I am just saying, if they are going on 6 hours of sleep, it is not the fault of the race. It is their own problem. Because how the race is set up, allows for them to get rest.

I don't really think that Don was trying to cheat. I think he was just tired and joking

Oh no, he was definitely NOT joking, the guy was on the verge of tears. He was most definitely trying to get her to give him some kind of hint to what the number was, even if it was to allow him to stand there and guess the number until he got it right. I saw no joking in that what-so-ever. IMO

I didn't really mean "joking" in the everyday sense of the word. I still don't think he was trying to cheat, more like playing a tiny violin :charac2: for himself. He knew that the person wasn't going to be able to give him any information. I think he was just looking for some sympathy.

Does anyone remeber the first season where they had mandatory rest time but they had to take it while racing and they had to lay down for something like 6 hours? I can remember a team taking their mandatory rest by laying on the floor of a South American bus.I also think a team talked about riding on the top of the bus with the luggage so they could get their rest time in. This si still my favorite show but the firstcouple of seasons were so action packed because there were very few rules and they had to buy their own tickets.

I've seen every season and have no recollection of this what-so-ever. They've never had to pay for airfare--they've always had to buy train and bus tickets. I recall watching it from the beginning--so maybe my memory is fuzzy.

Maybe I am remembering incorrectly--but I do recall noone ever scrounging for airline ticket money and as early as Season 2--there was a couple who got on a flight--they were only allowed to buy coach...the only available was first or business class--so the airline upgraded them. If they were using the provided money to budget for this--what would it matter to have a coach only rule?

I think they add the rules as they go along--I do recall seeing more of those jump ahead clues (where they do a task and then go straight to the pit stop if they are the first to complete it). It's nice to see those more frequently b/c it increases the chances of real competition for them. They come up so few and far between now so no one wants to risk doing it b/c they think someone else will have already used it.

The 12 hour pit stop is for everything--eating, drinking, resting, planning--et cetera. You'd be a fool to sleep the entire 12 hours. The teams eat very little (except for the challenges involving food ;) ) during the race--so they have to eat during the pit stops as well. Those wrestler's probably eat A LOT! They could have probably slept 6 hours each stop...so it is there fault if they only got 6 hours combined. However, they aren't sleeping in hotels usually on the pit stops--so comfort has everything to do with getting a good nights rest.

I believe what bobcat is thinking of was a show called Lost (not the popular series on ABC) where three couples were dropped blindolded in the middle of nowhere and has to make it back to the Statue of Liberty. If I recall correctly, it aired right before 9/11.

Oh--I sooo remember the promos for that--I had wanted to watch it...didn't they start out with $0.00?

I never watched Lost. I really do believe it was the very first season of the Amazing Race.

I have watched every season. They have always had the 12 hour rest periods after an elimination. If a team checks in at 12:01 a.m., they can't leave until 12:01 p.m. During the rest period, they can eat, sleep, shower, strategize, socialize, do whatever they want. It was always at an elimination point, which is why the elimination points are usually at a resort or something like that.

In past races, sometimes teams would be leaving on their next leg after their 12 hour rest before other teams even checked in. They have never been forced to take a rest break in the middle of the race. Soemtimes the teams sleep at places when they are waiting for them to open and things like that, but the 12 hour thing is only at elimination/pit stops. This is one of the few things that hasn't changed in the game since the first season.
