THE AMAZING RACE 15, ~Season Premier~ 09/27/09 pg 64!

They call themselves "Little People". I personally think that "dwarf" or "midget" are both derogatory terms myself ...

For the record, I think they are my favorite team. They height appears to be immaterial. I have not seen them have a single problem doing something because of it and they seem to meet each challenge with a big smile on their faces. I also like Tammy and Victor and Margie and Luke ... although I think that Luke's deafness will come into play as soon as he has to do a challenge where he has to communicate with someone without his mom around. Mark my words ... his real disadvantage is that he doesn't read lips.

The one question I have, and I had it when Charla raced a few seasons back, is any compromises made for their lack of height? I can't see them being able to handle normal cars, for example. Can't think of any other physical obstacles they would have to overcome that other normal sized people wouldn't, but I'm sure there are other examples.

Umm...I had to respond. I'm 4'10" and I can drive just fine. Of course if anyone else tries to drive my vehicle they can't even get in until they push the seat back. Trucks are sometimes a problem if I leave my parachute at home. :goodvibes

Personally I'd like to see the sisters Lakisha/Jenn go next ;) I actually think the blondes are kind of funny but I don't expect them to last long :rotfl:

I totally agree with you. Those two sisters kind of bug me.

:rotfl2:
I'm 5'2 and you should hear my husband moan and groan when he gets in my car -- like it's a big deal to push a button to put the seat back and steering wheel up.

I like Mark & Mike they are my favorite team, so far all smiles and no bickering.

I predict Luke is going to have a meltdown sometime soon. The looks he was giving his mother (when he wanted to switch to the segways) during the pie throwing. He was so frustrated she wasn't listening. She was right of course not to switch.

I did not read the whole thread, but exactly how tall are the brothers? They are short, but I don't find them as "little" as "Little People". Charla would seem way smaller than the brothers. Maybe my perception is off?

they just meet the standard at 4 foot 9 but I have no idea if they consider themselves as "little people" but I am guessing they don't want to be called dwarfs:goodvibes

they would be tall compared to most little people

We used to see Charla around here. She lives around here, or at least used to. I'm guessing she is around 4 ft.

The guys look taller than that.

I agree about Luke possibly having a meltdown. I think he will be put in a situation where he needs to communicate w/ people other than the racers, and his mom. He did look stressed last episode.

Hmm, now this thread has certainly opened my eyes to some things. I had no idea that the only requirement for 'dwarfism' is that you have an adult height of 4'10" or under. I'm 4'3" due to some severe scoliosis and a history of shortness in my family, but have never been referred to as a 'dwarf' or having dwarfism, not even by doctors. :confused3 I always thought dwarfism was a more specific type of medical condition, you know...Little People, Big World sorta thing. And in fact I'll bet if I went on a message board and said I had dwarfism, that's exactly the image people would get of me, which is definitely not what I look like. Huh. Learn something new every day.

I have to add I would have chosen the Segway challenge and ROCKED IT! I love those Segways!!

my dh kept moaning "what a terrible waste of good pie" when they were throwing it:rotfl2:

Yeah - I think the brothers are just short. They said that they stunt double for children. I don't think they have all the characteristics like the family on Little People, Big World.

JMHO

Thanks, Tisha. Actually, I posted the question before I realized how tall they really were. And I know what you mean about the seat. My wife is 5 feet even and we fight over the seat position all the time :lmao:

I could not find where this was addressed, but has it been noted that the deaf contestant (Luke) was not allowed to paraglide? According to Reality Blurred the instructions stated that "Important Note: For safety reasons, the person performing this task MUST be able to hear verbal cues", hence Lukes' mother had to do the task.

Reality blurred is a pretty good site. I also get it on my Kindle.

I had also read that anyone under 4'10" is considered a little person. I thought I actually heard it on Little People/Big World before! Hmmm.....maybe I am wrong! Anyway - they are definitely one of my favorite teams so far!

I was so glad to the see the married couple - cant think of their names right now - go this week. The wife got on my nerves so bad. I am also hoping the sisters go next. But if they dont, I dont think they will be around for much longer!

my professor in college was a "little person" she could hurt you if you called her a dwarf or midget. It is a common misperception that it is OK to call them dwarfs or midgets .:flower3:

Dwarfism refers to their condition it doesn't define who they are and that is why it is derogatory to call someone with dwarfism a dwarf.

Well, I remember very clearly, Amy, from Little People/Big World actually giving a speech somewhere, where she said she had no problem with dwarf but the younger generations are preferring Little People.
So it would appear it wasn't always considered derogatory, but today it would be better to use the term Little People.

Hey guys. I had a couple of people email me last year that some of you gals/guys read my recaps at Cinema Blend. My name is Matt (duh) and I'm recapping this season as well. If you want to read them, they are usually up after the show (depending on how fast I type. haha) within an hour or two.

http://www.cinemablend.com/television/ is the main link but if you want me to post direct links to it after I have it up, I will.

I do appreciate knowing that at least a couple people read what I write.

Just wanted to say hi! I'm in Baton Rouge too :)

I don't really have a team I'm hoping to go home at this point. The sisters and their bickering might get old, but I hope they stick around and start to understand each other a little better as the race goes on.

What did the older couple do to get so far behind? I missed that because I was putting kiddos to bed.
