THE AMAZING RACE 15, ~Season Premier~ 09/27/09 pg 64!

:surfweb:
Hey guys. I had a couple of people email me last year that some of you gals/guys read my recaps at Cinema Blend. My name is Matt (duh) and I'm recapping this season as well. If you want to read them, they are usually up after the show (depending on how fast I type. haha) within an hour or two.

http://www.cinemablend.com/television/ is the main link but if you want me to post direct links to it after I have it up, I will.

I do appreciate knowing that at least a couple people read what I write.

Im guess they meant the stuntmen, but still I "feel" it is rude to desribe them that way:confused3
They call themselves "Little People". I personally think that "dwarf" or "midget" are both derogatory terms myself ...

For the record, I think they are my favorite team. They height appears to be immaterial. I have not seen them have a single problem doing something because of it and they seem to meet each challenge with a big smile on their faces. I also like Tammy and Victor and Margie and Luke ... although I think that Luke's deafness will come into play as soon as he has to do a challenge where he has to communicate with someone without his mom around. Mark my words ... his real disadvantage is that he doesn't read lips.

That's not as bad as when one of the sisters called them "mini men". I thought that was totally uncalled for. I don't like the sisters at all anymore.

Dwarf is not a derrogatory term. The two of them suffer from dwarfism, a medical condition. They are dwarves.

Calling them midgets is derrogatory - aking to calling a black person by the N-word.

OMG! That sounds delicious. I would love your recipe for Spaetzle w/ mushrooms and swiss cheese.
First of all, we have a spaetzle maker, so it's really easy. The spaetzle maker is like a flat grater with extra big holes with a plastic "pusher" that slides back and forth on top of it. You could probably also use a strainer.

I used the spaetzle recipe from here:
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/German-Spaetzle-Dumplings/Detail.aspx

and doubled the recipe. It LIES ... it does not make 6 servings but only about 2-3. While the spaetzle was cooking, I sauteed some mushrooms in a non-stick pan. Once the spaetzle was drained, I added about a cup of cooked spaetzle to the mushrooms and stirred to combine over low heat. I added 1/4-1/2 cup shredded swiss cheese to the pan and stirred it until the cheese was melted.

My local German restaurant makes kase spaetzle which is like this except it also has cooked onions and small bits of broccoli and is baked like mac n cheese.

I know that they suffer from the medical condition called "dwarfism". That does not mean that they should be called "dwarves". I do feel it is a derogatory term as it is used in fairy tales and mythology to describe beings that are not human. At one time it was perfectly acceptable to call people under 4'10" "dwarves" but that term has been replaced by "little people". To expand on your N-Word analogy it used to be perfectly acceptable to call someone with one white parent and one black parent "mulatto" and now we call them "biracial".

I noticed at one point during the show, when maybe about the 4th-6th place teams were reaching the pit stop, they put on the bottom of the screen "14 Hours Since Leg Began"
I never noticed them doing that before. Anyone else catch that? Wonder why they put that on?

?

I saw that too, I wonder if that means the last couple of teams are way behind? It was awful dark when the blondes and Steve and Linda got to the pit stop.

I would love to see the blondes go next.

That would make sense...it had grown very dark outside.

I was glad the hicks are out - Linda just wasn't up to the task of Racing in general.

I do not care for Mel/Mike.
I do not care for the dwarves, either.

The blondes could become another freakin' Dandrew, but I am hoping they do not.

The sisters are tiresome.

Redheads = OK so far.

I do like the Asian sibs, the middle-aged marrieds, Amander & Chris, and Luke & Mom.

I guess there really isn't a team I LOATHE this time out, but I definitely like some more than others.

The asian siblings are ok but he needs to stop singing everything. The middle-aged married couple are strange, especially her. She is way to peppy and if they fist bump one more time, I'm going to puke.

I noticed that "14 hours since start of leg" thing, too. I think the teams are pretty spread out after this leg. It seemed like Tammy/Victor finished quite a bit before anybody else did.

As far as Mark and Michael go...are they actually Little People? I just thought they were a bit short. And I didn't realize they were brothers - just looked over their info at the CBS site again. Duh!

Those clips (say cheese/Linda & Steve) were pretty funny! I always forget to go check out the extras at the CBS site.

Oh, and I thought this was kind of funny...I was discussing the show with my older sister. She was commenting on the sibling issues with Tammy/Victor and Kisha/Jennifer and saying how the "younger sisters didn't realize there is a pecking order to be followed". I said the older siblings need to realize the younger sisters aren't babies any more - it'll be interesting to see how it actually ends up during the race.

.

my professor in college was a "little person" she could hurt you if you called her a dwarf or midget. It is a common misperception that it is OK to call them dwarfs or midgets .:flower3:

Dwarfism refers to their condition it doesn't define who they are and that is why it is derogatory to call someone with dwarfism a dwarf.

Yes I was surprised regarding the stuntsmen's short stature and didn't notice it until they were on the TAR mat the first episode. Someone here clued me in:laughing:

I personally wouldn't consider the stuntmen short enough to be called little people. I guess it all depends on what you define as "short".

Does anyone remember what Phil said to the blondes when they got to the mat? Something about coming in last again?

According to the Little People Association a "little person" is someone who is 4"10 or shorter. The brothers are both 4"9 I think. The only time I have noticed their height is when they walked up to the airline counter last night and I thought to myself: "Wow! They *are* short!".

It was something about them always being in the back of the pack and was he going to have to eliminate them next week?

Personally I'd like to see the sisters Lakisha/Jenn go next ;) I actually think the blondes are kind of funny but I don't expect them to last long :rotfl:

 I'm in Canada....and they won't let me watch any of the show videos. I do get to see Phil's diary and Elimination Station, but . . .

Me too! Not fair....
