The "ALL Things THEFT" in Disney Thread

Crisi, that wasnt towards you. :) :) its good to know people will still mail stuff back to you.

Seems credit cards are a popular theft. I use credit cards exclusively. I put EVERY SINGLE PENNY I spend on credit cards if I can. Every month I pay them down to 0 and cash in the rewards. I usually clear about $400 - $500 a year in rewards! Even so, I just never feel safe handing my card to the waiter. I dont like it EVER leaving my sight. When it goes back to the CC machine (usually in another room or an out of the way dark area at most restaurants) God only knows what they would do with it. All they gotta do is write down the number for future use, and I'm screwed. Or they could photocopy it. so I just pay cash at restaurants.
Disney has a very good idea though of letting you put all your expenses on a room key. Its a lot safer. Its also good for them, because they get to cash in the rewards for your weeks worth of fun. I'm sure it adds up to quite a bit quickly.
BUT I have found several room keys in the pool! and YES, I turned them all in.

We had a Mickey balloon stollen from our stroller in TT. It was well tied on, so an adult had to undo it. DD didn't notice it was missing, but we wonder what the thief would have done if we had walked up as they were stealing it.

We never leave anything of value on the stroller, purchases get sent to frontgate or room, everything else goes in a backpack DH or I wear.

Well, just to be contrary, on one trip I found an AE gold card on the floor of the WL lobby and immediately turned it into the front desk.

A few years later I found a lovely gold bracelet on the ground in AK. Turned it into guest services and was told that there was a good chance that the person would check to see if it had been turned in.

I've never had anything stolen.....and I'd like to think that the people that lost these items had them returned to them.

There was a thread on "Theft at Disneyland" that I thought might be a nice link to post here:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1070386

In the above thread I posted that our stroller was stolen, but I'll share my experience here too.

Our double 2004 Maclaren Twin Traveller stroller was stolen from a designated stroller parking space in front of Disneyland's Small World last Labor Day Weekend 2005. The thief made the effort to steal it, since my parents (who had the kids while DH and I went on Space Mtn) purposely parked it in the "inner" most rows of the stroller parking area. One had to maneuver his/her way through the rows of stroller to get to our double.

As APers, we go many times to Disneyland and we've always taken our strollers with no problems (Peg Peregos, Maclarens, Century/Gracos), so I was lulled into a false sense of security. I guess this time, someone wanted our SBS stroller badly enough to steal it.

Not only was our stroller stolen, but so was our diaper bag (with my DD's epipens and benedryl bottle inside), our water bottles, our lunch bag, a couple of stroller fans, a souvenir Mickey and my dad's light jacket.

Thank goodness nothing irreplaceable was inside. The bad thing about it was that my DH had to drive 3 hours round trip back home to pick up an extra set of epipens for my DD and our single stroller. We checked w/ Guest Services the next three days that we were at the park and...nothing.

We now always lock our stroller and carry DD's epipens and benedryl with us on rides...lesson learned. I don't want to go through that experience again.

I have a Peg Perego stroller too. Awesome little all terrain attack vehicles! :teeth:
They are the best.
I bought mine JUST for Disney trips, (got it brand new in plastic at a salvage store for $60.00!!!) fast and easy to collapse. Handle is great feature. I wrote our last name ALL OVER it in wide black permanent marker: A little theft deterrant I learnt in Cancun.

My Mom lost her fanny pack, she thinks she left it on a bus. No one ever used any cards before she cancelled them. She passed away only 4 days after getting home but I called Disney a few times to see if anyone had turned it in and the answer was no. So not really sure if it was stolen, but they didn't use anything.

Left my purse at a table in front of the Plaza restaurant in MK and the cms had it when I checked bakc about 30 minutes later --nothing was missing.

Dropped my cell phone somewhere near the beach club on my way to Epcot and someone found it and called my DH's cell phone before I even realized it was missing. They gave it to the front desk at BC and I retreived a few hours later at my leisure.

Had couple of other times I left my purse behind on rides and stuff (I'm a bit absent minded) and they were always safely in the hands of cms with nothing missing.

Oh, I'm sorry OP this is not what you wanted, was it?

My DH actually witnessed a theft last June...but this one's funny.

DH was waiting outside HISTK in Epcot waiting for the rest of us to get out of the show (he had gone to get FP's) and was standing along the rail next to our stroller and several others. A squirrel comes along, sniffs around some of the stollers, finds a ladies' bag and proceeds to climb IN it. The squirrel comes out of the bag carrying a whole apple. DH said that squirrel looked around and then took off with that apple in his mouth! :rotfl2: When the lady came out, my DH wanted to tell her what had happened, but was afraid she wouldn't believe him and would think HE was the one who took it and ate it! He didn't even think to get this on video...too funny! :happytv:

We also on this same trip FOUND a $50 bill laying on the ground by the pool bar at POFQ. And yes, we turned it in to the bartender who told us that somebody would probably be back asking about it. :goodvibes

Oh, those cunning, thieving squirrels!

Ive seen the birds do some funny stuff with stroller foods, and ive seen them MANY times hop up on the stroller handle, and drink from the mugs and cups in the cup-rests!
Ive never been around when they came out, so couldnt tell them.
Ive also seen the birds pick french fries, pieces of cookie, popcorn, and pretzels from parked strollers.
Anytime a bird is near a stroller with food we always stop and watch.
The way I see it, the stroller will probably be there for a little while, theres a good chance the bird is on his second or third trip, and if we run him off another one will just hop up there as soon as we walk off... besdes its kinda fun watching them.

We had our diaper bag stolen at MGM in June of 2003.

We were near the playhouse disney area sitting on a bench, diaper bag right next to me. It was me, twins (6 months old at time) and dd 2 years old at time. Dh and the older kids had gone off to bring back ice cream while we were waiting for playhouse disney. There were lots of people in the area and I of course was very busy with the little ones. I was entertaining them in the stroller in front of me, dd next to me and when dh came back, we noticed the bag was gone.

Didnt care about the bag (although it might have been appealing to someone it was a Petunia Picklebottom my mother in law had given me and cost about 150 or so). Did care about the twins powdered formula which was in the diaper bag as it was special order from the formula company (they were born 2.5 months early) and WDW only carried Carnation so we had to go back to the resort and get the extra from the rooms. They called it liquid gold it was so expensive. Plus extra clothes, diapers, blankies, etc. I learned my lesson about being careful. Disney was wonderful, took my dh back to the resort for stuff (in a van) while I waited at the babycare center with the little ones for him to get back.

On the other side of the story, same trip, we found an envelope stuffed full of money (talking several thousand in cash) while just walking across the bridge by Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom. It had writing on it in another language that I couldnt even attempt to guess at. We took it to Town Hall, turned it in and the CMs said it looked like a "wedding envelope". I hope the owners got it back.

At the Poly...had to take a restroom break while at the pool, we were using our own Polynesian beach towel. Draped it over the door, went to wash hands and walked out without it. Realized it a minute later, went back in to get it, it was gone that fast!

Last fall, my DD and I went to the restroom in Mexico at Epcot. I hung my Nikon 35mm camera on the hook inside the stall. You guessed it, I left it there. It took me about 15 minutes to realize it was missing. I was just so mad at myself for doing something so careless. I rushed back there check the stall, spoke with the hostess at the rest., checked with various CMs, went to lost and found, and called 2 to 3 times a day. Never turned in. I was just sick about it. It was my fault for leaving it but someone did take it.
I always like to think they continued using my film and when they got it developed they saw my happy little family and felt really guilty and bad about what they had done. :sad2:

We then had to go to Walmart and purchase another camera. That cost us over $100. Now I am extra careful to check for left behind items.

REMEMBER...let your conscience be your guide.

We lost our son's gameboy two years ago in July. We were staying at Grand Floridian. The last time I remember seeing the gameboy was while we were at AKL watching the animals. My son and husband went to the restroom, and then we drove back to the hotel. My husband left my son and me off in front and went to park the car. My son and I stopped in the two gift stores at GF, and then went to our room. We were leaving the next day, and I spent the rest of the evening packing. I was attending a conference, so, my husband checked the luggage and went to a park. When I got out of my meeting, the first question my husband asked is "where's the gameboy?". I didn't know, because, I never had it. So, I asked around all the places we had been, the giftshops and AKL, and filed a report at GF. In the 90 days or so that they would keep an item that is lost, lost and found claimed that not a single gameboy had been turned in (which I find implausible, given the popularity of gameboys with young children under the age of 10). What really burned me, however, is that I had my son's name and phone number labeled on the gameboy. It was just the gameboy and one game. No charger, so, basically, once the battery ran down, it was probably worthless to whoever found it.

I just bought new batteries for it. ONLY kiddiing!!! :lmao:
But seriously, thats all they had to do.

Well, I can say this much. As many people go to WDW, and as FEW replys as this thread has gotten over the time it has been out: I conclude that WDW is a VERY safe place from theft. I'd say MOST of the responses are from someone (like myself) who just made an expensive mistake, and left something where it shouldnt have been.
I'm relieved that there were no large theft rings, no media scams, and not that many really SERIOUS thefts given the amount of people who cross the gates every day, I'd say your pretty safe at Disney.

Our MacLaren stroller was stolen outside of the stroller parking area in front of Splash. It was very distinctive (& expensive) and we know that whoever took it knew the value. We were back to the stroller within a half hour's time and it was just plain gone. Contacted L&F 2xs a day every day for a month to see if it was turned in but it was gone for good!

We also found some cash during that trip & turned it into a CM with the location of exactly where it was found. Hope it found its way to the rightful owner.

NEWS TO ME..............I HAVE ALWAYS POSTED THIS WAY AND DO THE SAME WITH MY EMAIL. NO ONE HAS EVER SAID ANYTHING. I AM NOT YELLING, I AM ABOUT AS LAID BACK AS YOU COULD GET.

Here's the "netiquette" about caps typing:
"#9 Do not type in all caps. Typing in caps is considered shouting or screaming online. Various studies on the topic reflect that it is more difficult and takes longer to read text that is typed in all caps. "

This is found on Centenary College's Online Etiquette Page. Usually all caps, or lots of them, help to convey a message of yelling. Since text does not "emote" for us, then caps are one way of getting your underlying meaning across.

HTH!

P.S. WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE ALL CAPS OR LOWERCASE? ITS ALL ABOUT WHAT I AM COMFORTABLE WITH.

Wow, someone has had a bit too much coffee today! I politely asked about your typing style (which was NOT all caps, you simply capitalized the the first letter of every single word in your post).

I AM NOT YELLING, I AM ABOUT AS LAID BACK AS YOU COULD GET

Someone who gets so excited about an anonymous post on an online message board is hardly laid back.

I APOLOGIZE IF THIS BOTHERS YOU, BUT MAYBE YOU NEED TO LIGHTEN UP

Right back at ya!

As mentioned, typing in all caps is considered rude, because it is the equivelent of shouting. If you want to type using capital letters at the beginning of each word, go for it. It must be extremely time consuming to type that way and it is hard to read, but perhaps you aren't really interested in communicating?

As to the theft issue at Disney, it's like every other place. Do not ever leave valuables unattended.

Yeah, Caps is screaming. I've known that for 10 years.

Fortunately, nothing has been stolen...but now I'm paranoid about the credit card thing.
