The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Lauren, I am glad you made it through the procedure OK. It sounds pretty uncomfortable.

Glynis, that sounds like fun! I'm going to one of John's aunts for the 4th. Those gatherings are always...interesting. Yes, I will be bringing a bottle of wine. Or maybe two...

I'm making penne with asiago cheese sauce with some grilled chicken on top. The cheese sauce is someone's recipe from this thread and I'm excited to try it!

Hey y'all,

Quick check in here. I haven't read back yet, Alexis wants to swim & we need to get in before thunderstorms start bubbling up again.

The game was great! Astros beat the Sox 11-10! (Sorry to all you Sox fans!)Big hitting game with no errors, it was really exciting! They Sox got way ahead, but then the Astros rallied, it was fun.
Love watching baseball in a suite, great seats plus someone constantly bringing me margaritas, baseball doesn't get any better than that!

Spending so much for gas for just a quick trip was shocking. So we are considering flying for our Oct trip. If we book an extra on the road night, it's almost a wash between driving and flying.

Lauren, Double triple hugs for you friend! :grouphug: That procedure sounds terrible, glad that's over!

I'll try to read up later. Don't know what's for dinner yet.

I'm jealous. Our 'hood does NOTHING... I am always jealous of people who live in neighborhoods that have parties and stuff.

I'm telling you, I live in very small town U.S.A.! There are just over 2500 people that live in Alpine! The neighborhood I live in is WONDERFUL!!! We do tons of stuff together. We have a book club, do kids birthday parties together, play dates for little ones, etc.

The town itself, is directly out of the Music Man! We have summer concerts in the park, Alpine Days which is a week long event of parades, bbq's in the park, activities and dances for the teenage set, movies in the park for the littler ones, fireworks at the end. It's a real blast!!!

We ended up with Subway last night.

Tonight I'm doing my baked sandwich. I've taken a loaf of frozen bread dough, rolled it out in a circle and placed it in a 9-inch deep dish pie plate. I'm layering deli ham, onions, mustard, spinach, deli turkey, mustard, spinach and tons of cheese (swiss and cheddar). Then I'll pull the dough up and over the fillings, pinching to close. Bake it up, and then slice it into wedges. I'm serving with crisp dill pickles and macaroni salad. Yum!!!

We're having steak fajitas with salad tonight...as long as the thunderstorms hold off long enough for me to grill. It is too hot to cook inside.

I'm fixing everything on the grill tonight. Ribeye, grilled corn & vidalia onion, and sweet potatoes. Maybe a chimchurri sauce for the steak if I have time.

Tonight's dinner is a strange combo. Pot roast with corn pudding and green beans. I'm also fixing rice and gravy since one of the kids doesn't eat the corn pudding. I wasn't really planning on making the green beans, but they were a gift from a family member's garden and she has washed, snapped, and strung them. :cool1:

I won't get to check back in until tomorrow. I have some work to finish up tonight. See all of you tomorrow.

Tonight I am having turkey meatloaf, corn on the cob, and green beans.

I just cleaned out my work bag, haven't done that in weeks, :sad2: and I have so many recipes in there. I really need to catalog them and start using them.

For the 4th we are having a cookout at our house. Having grilled chicken, ribs and I don't know what else yet. I am going to make some sort of chocolate, peanut butter dessert. I am thinking about trying to make a surprise cupcake with peanut butter icing, using peanut butter cups as the surprise. :thumbsup2

I saw a show once about cupcakes that had you put an unwrapped peanut butter cup in the bottom of the cupcake liner, then top it with cupcake batter. It supposedly worked well with oreos, too.

Have you ever heard of or gotten meat from Rotolo & Martin on Fourth Street? Someone told us about them, they've been in business forever and their steaks are INCREDIBLE!!!!

I didn't take a picture of our fajitas, although they were good. I couldn't figure out how to photo it in an appealing way. However, I did make that berry tart I posted the recipe for and managed to take a picture before the kids ate it.

Have a great night!

Laura - That tart looks like something I'd like to reward myself with after I lose some of my weight/inches!:thumbsup2

Aw, I LOVE the Music Man (the original, not the remake with Matthew Broderick). How fun to live in a cool place like that!

This sandwich thing is interesting to me... might have to try it!

The asiago sauce was really tasty, thanks to whoever posted it. Very quick and easy which I LOVE!

Here is my dinner. John was at a client dinner, so I made breakfast for dinner. You might notice a theme here...everything is greasy, salty, and fatty. There is nothing green, and I only ate about 1/8 of it. Yes ladies, you all know what I am talking about.

John picked a good night to have a business dinner, didn't he? ;)

Little does he know that thanks to this GSFNG meal, we are having tofu, bok choy and bean sprouts for dinner tomorrow!

Goodnight!

Well, the sandwich was awesome!!! It was a hit with all the family! I couldn't believe it! And it was easy (once I remembered to thaw out the dough). The only thing I would recommend is letting it sit for at least half an hour so that the cheese doesn't run all over the place when you cut it up. We let it sit, and it was still warm and gooey, just not liquid cheese!

They didn't get as much instruction as I thought they would. You have to follow an instructor 3-4 car lengths behind - which is SO CLOSE when you're going that fast. Plus you're so far down into the car, and can't turn your head really, so it appears a lot closer than you really are.

We don't follow racing at all, I know nothing about Nascar (I thought Danica Patrick drove nascar, LOL!), but you're right - driving one is fun regardless.

Aimee, I really thought you would get more in car instruction than that! But man it sounds so thrilling!! Glad you were able to experience it! Bob is a racing fan, anything on 4 wheels or even 2 (motorcyles). I watch Nascar, know the drivers & some times get really into it. But I really love Indy Car raicing!

DH passed the test today and is going onto the next stage with that city, too! =)

We also got word from our friends that they received extensive reference sheets in the mail today to complete about him from the other city - which is good news. It means they are still considering him.

Good Morning!

It was really one of our best trips to the World. We were relaxed and did not rush to do everything. We did the attractions that we like the best and it worked out well. It worked out well since it was very hot and we took afternoon breaks at the pool and cat napping.
OKW: We all LOVE this resort. I am going to keep my eye out for a small resale here. It is just so relaxing and spacious. We were in the Turtle Pond section for the 2nd time and absolutely love it. Close to the buses, Hospitality House and the main pool and quiet pool. Its about a 10 minute walk to the H House.

La Nouba: If you haven't seen this show, try and do it on your next trip. It was awesome. I would love to go back someday.

OK, enough already from me, right? I will be trying to compile some of my food and drink pics into something and whatever I do, I will post the links. Please feel free to ask away! :)

Lauren, Your trip sounds wonderful, except for A's palsy. We have been doing a relaxed pace like that for quite a while.

You've sold me on OKW!! love your balcony!

Hi Guys some links to some of my pics:

Lauren -- Welcome back! I am happy you had a great time.
Here's a picture of her in her medal and the costume I designed for her:

Congratulations Cailli! Great Job! Laura that child of your's just get more beautiful with each pic! Good Job on the costume Mom! It's wonderful!

OK here is the deal... Nan doesnt throw anything away. She gave us salad dressing that expired 18 months prior. She said... It has vinegar, so it really never expires:scared1: She thinks the expiration date is just an INFORMATION SIGN!! So my PSA for everyone is to check the dates on food in Nans fridge or cabinets before eating. :rotfl2:

She hasn't killed any of you, yet! ;) You really don't want to see the inside of my refrigerator!

Becky & Laura, All of the food over the weekend looks Great! :thumbsup2

Becky, that looks super yummy but I hope you feel better tomorrow!

Whew, I'm sure I forgot someone! But this was the only time I had to read everything I missed & I'm really tired now.

Tonight I am making spaghetti and meatball stoup, per my husband's request.

A miniature one or a regular-sized? Mmmmmmmmmmm!
