The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Hi y'all,

Quick checkin, did nothing but read all day & went for a swim. I had an unexpected Nana's day off & took full advantage of it. Finished the whole book that I started last night, "Water for Elephants".

Glynis, Prayers are coming for you!:flower3:

Lauren, That is great news! Glad Andrew is back to normal & your tests results were good!! :cool1:

NEWDW, Sorry to hear about your Mom.:flower3:

Becky, :worship: As usual your food looks fabulous!

I'm fixing the Copper River salmon for dinner, although I'm tempted to cook the Silver Bright one too just for comparison. I'll probably do it on the grill, with a maple glaze.

Did you like the book? I loved it! I thought it was really well written!

Well, there is a slight abnormality on the portion of the AFP that tests for Down's syndrome. My nurse tried to make an appointment with the high risk ultrasound doctor to get a clearer picture of things, but the earliest they can work me in is July 25. The nurse mentioned that I was nervous about the results and was hopeful of getting in sooner, but the high risk doctor looked at the test results and told the nurse that there was really nothing to indicate any urgency in my case. That sounds good to me, right?

So, I'll go to my regular OB on the 22nd and have an ultrasound there to determine the gender, and then the high risk on the 25th. The nice thing is that because of the test results, our insurance will pay for both ultrasounds, instead of just one. So, that's good.

I'm going to try to just put the whole thing out of my mind for now. There's nothing I can do about it anyway, so I'm just going to try to relax on our camping trip.

Dinner tonight (I finally decided) will be spicy turkey soup. I'll make some biscuits for dunking, too.

I think it sounds pretty good. I would think if the high risk doctor didn't indicate an urgency that's a VERY positive sign. Try and relax and enjoy your camping trip. I'll be praying my dear friend.

Once again I concur with Kathy...relax and enjoy your trip.:grouphug:

So far so good:flower3:
If the high risk didn't have you in right away that is a good sign.

Enjoy your camping trip and you will stay in my prayers:)

SHOVAN thank you for the thought s for my Mom.

Thanks for the prayers!

I literally could not stop reading! I just started it last night, this morning after I got Bob off to work, I picked it up planning to just read a little while. Well I couldn't put it down! I read until I finished it, so that was from about 7:40 until 2:30. I even forgot to eat lunch!

Glynis, I agree with everyone else. If the dr. didn't feel the need to get you in quickly, it's probably nothing to worry about. Prayers that you will be able to put it out of your mind & enjoy your trip!

SHOVAN thank you for the thought s for my Mom.

Your welcome. I can sympathize with your Mom & back pain, that's for sure!:flower3:

If Marisa checks in she can give you her Buddy horror stories and he was not even trying to punish her :lmao::lmao::lmao: He was just being Buddy :rotfl::rotfl:

:lmao: :lmao: I shared your truck story with Kenny and he died laughing and said he could see me doing the same thing - curlers in hair, house coat and all. The funny thing is he's absolutely right. Like you, I'm way more stubborn than any of the kids, well except maybe for Hailey. She has determination to spare.

:rotfl: I may need to use this!

I hope neither of us do. But you have to do what you have to do. ;)

DM is home with us for an unknown period of time. She slipped discs a few weeks ago and now have major nerve involvement as well. I am so worried about her!
She had xrays this morning & now has to have another MRI:guilty:

Maria, I'm so sorry about your mother. When is her next appointment?

Another quick check in...the nodules were benign! :cool1:

Also, Andrew is also back to "normal" after his episode of Bells Palsy!!!

I'm so glad to hear that! What a relief for both of you.

...anyone??

I don't. Sorry. But I'll share if I run across any.

Keep your fingers crossed for me, please. I had an AFP test last Wednesday, and have been playing phone tag with my nurse all day. I'm a little concerned since she told me they would only call if there was a positive outcome of the test which would indicate a birth defect. I know that the chance of a false positive is great, so I'm not overly worried, but could use all the prayers and pixie dust I can get! Thanks!

Glynis, you and your precious baby will be in my prayers. Try not to get upset until you have met with the high risk OB and have had your ultrasound. There are many cases of false positives and the stress won't be good for either of you.

I am just having leftovers tonight--cold fried chicken, potato salad, and cole slaw.

I perfer potato salad on the second day, actually.

Has anyone seen Stephanie (nucpharm) around the boards lately? She hasn't checked in here in a long time and I'm kinda worried.

I haven't seen her at all.

Sounds like a great day. And well deserved.

Ok, I have a stupid question. This southern girl has certainly heard of sauerkraut, but I've never eaten it. How do you make it? What does it taste like?

I guess I would describe it as a brined cabbage.
We rinse it and then saute it with onion and butter. Not sure if this is the norm but this is how the men in my house like it. I serve it on top of brats.

Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers...back to cleaning this mess...hope all is well with everyone!

I am so happy for the to of you! Without the worry maybe you will begin to feel better and get some real rest.

...anyone??

I have not really come in contact with Gluten Free recipes although Bob's Red Mill has a lot of GF products. I will sure look for them in my "travels".

Good for you! I agree that this was a well deserved day free!

 I admit that I have no experience in this but I agree with the others. The High Risk Dr would have gotten you in if there was a real worry. I am keeping you and the precious baby in my prayers.

Hailey is her Mother's Daughter :thumbsup2

I don;t have a recipe but I can tell you how I make it.

I take the sauerkraut that I find in bags in the deli dept and rinse it.

I cook bacon, reserve the meat and then saute a big hopped onion or two and some fresh garlic in the bacon fat (I like garlic), add the kraut and mix it. Then I add some salt, coarse pepper and caraway seeds to it and cover with water. Simmer until the water is gone and adjust the seasonings. I chop the bacon and add it to the pan after the water is almost gone.

This is a coronary in a pan. My SIL cooks her onions and kraut in butter and salt pork. Lots of butter. She starts with the salt pork and renders the fat, then she minces up the meat from the pork and adds it. I don't know if she simmers any water in her, and she does not use caraway. It is absolutely one of the best krauts I have ever had, my Donny says it is way better than mine.

I never got dinner ready tonight. I spent more time in the car than at home so we had leftovers which Buddy turned into sandwiches ;) I'll try again tomorrow

Maria, I'm so sorry about your mother. When is her next appointment?

Thank you.....she has her MRI tomorrow night 7pm at the hospital. Luckily they had a cancellation otherwise she would have had to wait almost 2 weeks:eek:

Thank you for all your sweet thoughts and prayers....

Think of sauerkraut as being best friends of mustard & a hot dog! I am a condiment addict so get yourself some really good hotdogs (at a butcher if you have one around) cook them and smother them with mustard & sauerkraut!!! Delicious!:cool1:

NEVERENOUGH - So sorry, I missed your post about your Mom. Good thoughts and prayers coming your way.

Maria -- I missed your post about your mom as well. I hope she is doing better, and I'm glad she doesn't have to wait too long for the MRI.

Finished the whole book that I started last night, "Water for Elephants".

I LOVED that book. It was my favorite book that I read last year.

Well, there is a slight abnormality on the portion of the AFP that tests for Down's syndrome.

This was what came back in my test when I was pregnant with Liam. Believe me, I know it is hard to put it out of your mind, but since the doctor isn't overly concerned, you shouldn't be either. You may even find out earlier that it is a false positive...my regular ultrasound ruled it out just based on measurements.

I guess I would describe it as a brined cabbage.
:thumbsup2 That's what I would say too. I have never attempted brining it myself. I just buy a bag or a jar and doctor it up a bit.

And Gretchen, I hope you and Kenny never need to follow through on your particular vehicle threat. When Liam gets old enough, I hope I can teach him to be a responsible driver. If not...I really like your scenario.

Tomorrow is going to be a crazy day here. Caili has skating in the morning, then we need to go get Liam's baseball clothes that he needs for summer league, then we are going to the Farmer's Market with my dad, then Caili has a birthday party, then Liam has his first summer league baseball game. Maybe I should go to bed now!

Who knows what dinner will be...I think Caili and I will have a picnic at Liam's game. Liam will have to eat in the car or while Caili is at her party.

Tonight it's leftover stuffed pepper stoup and bread.

Glynis- if you have time and feel like it, would you please post your biscuit recipe? :)

I PM'd Stephanie yesterday and she's fine, just been very busy, so hopefully she'll be back posting soon.

WFD - Thai Chicken Curry w/ Jasmine Rice.

Good Morning. I overslept and am very lazy so I am rushing again. I will be back later to catch up...we are having ravioli, with homemade marinara, tossed salad and garlic toast.

Hugs to all!

Good Morning! I am hoping to make the sloppy joe today. I also may make some chili so that I have food on hand to reheat if the week gets out of control.
