Is it worth having the concierge level

We love staying on the club level--light breakfast, drinks and snacks all day and using the Itinerary Planning Office before our trip. :worship:

When it comes to a room, whether club level or just a regular savanna room, I always request a certain area. If we don't like the location of the room, I call the front desk or the concierge desk and request another room.

If staying club level, I wouldn't get the dining plan. It's just too much food and you don't get to use the lounge as much.

Any other questions?

Kathy

Has anyone heard what, if anything, they are replacing Camp Kidani with? We are a month out from our trip, and my son is really bummed out. We even made our Boma ADR without him, planning for him to be at Camp K, and now I can't get another with the correct # of people:headache:.

I have some questions for the experts! :)

We are staying at ALV - Jambo, Studio, Savanna View, in just under 2 weeks!:cool1:

Is there a view I should hope for? I've read a lot of Arusha Savanna on this thread. I think my kids would love to see Giraffe & Zebra's... are all of the animals different in each section?

Is it worth getting a refillable mug? If so where are the refill stations?

How is the child care club for a 9 & 5 year old? We have a dinner ADR at Jiko and my thought was to put the kids in the child care, so my DH and I could have an evening together.

Thanks!:worship:

I think they have it there as well. We transferred from POP to VWL in May and they handled it the same way. POP was probably the fastest bell service we have had at the resorts.

Pop doesn't have Bell services, but they do have a luggage serivce area. I don't know if they wil ldeliver or not, but thats no big deal if we have to go get them. We may have a car anyways, and maybe just transport everything that way. But I am just trying to get an idea of how it works. I've never stayed deluxe before.

So here's another question. If we have a car and arrive and check in, do they take yur luggage to your room? Or do we do it ourself, which is fine by me, but wondering what the "right" way is.

Pop delivers and picks up luggage from the rooms. We've done it several times. The only time we have not been able to get help with luggage was late at night at All Star Sports; luggage assistance had just closed.

Well maybe POP doesn't call it 'bell service', but it was handled the same as any other Disney resort we have stayed at.

As for driving with luggage - you could probably do it either way. If you pull up to the area outside the front desk they will come ask if you need/want help with luggage.

Hi all, anyone have a recent picture of the Jambo House entrance sign? TIA

It his what you mean? I took it on my way into AKL last December.

Just got back from our first trip - staying AKV Jambo, Studio, SV. Can't say we requested a view, but we were at the back of the hotel where the Arusha Savanna meets the Uzima Savanna. I thought the view might not be so good as it was behind the hotel from the "main" Arusha savanna, but they must move the animals around a lot because we saw a ton of the Arusha animals, and a few of the Uzima. The animals are slightly different on each savannah, but all have Giraffes. Our last morning we could see both the Arusha and Uzima Giraffes at the same time. 5 giraffes in all, very cool!

Can't answer about the mugs...personally we don't buy them, but feel we get plenty of drinks on the DDP without them....but we are not big soda drinkers, and we don't drink coffee. If you like your coffee in the morning it might be worth it for that. The ONLY mug refill spot is in the Mara (by the pool).

Also Simba's Cubhouse was a big hit with DD7 - we dropped her there while we ate at Jiko too and she loved it. Games and movies and videogames. Our DD wanted to go again, but we didn't have another free night planned.

Hope that helps!

Oh, and a quick MINI-Review - we very much liked AKV, and it was a real treat to see the animals. For us this was very much a splurge, but I didn't find that it was SO wonderful that I will regret going back to a moderate. The overall service was fine, but renting DVC you don't get mousekeeping all the time, and they were supposed to come in at certain times (the 4th and 8th day) and they came in different days. And then worst of all, when they changed the sheets, they swept up one of DD stuffed animals, and we spent an hour tearing apart the room looking for it. While they were helpful enough looking for it, because sheets go off site, they said it could be weeks before they find it. I've had several calls but no go on getting it back. They did give me a $20 credit to buy a new one, but it was one of the most truly unmagical moments of any Disney trip ever. Worst part, I had overheard earlier in the trip another guy complaining the exact same thing happened to him, which tells me they do this a LOT. Never lost a stuffed animals in 5 previous trips to POFQ and Pop. Even beyond that, I didn't think any of the staff was any better or more attentive than at POFQ or Pop, and if I wasn't paying DVC prices I might've been annoyed with that fact.

Also, because we spent so much time at the park, I felt like we didn't really take advantage of the resort. We did swim a few days, but never really did any of the kids programs except Simba's Cubhouse, which was great. The pool was fine, but didn't think any better than POFQ. We didn't get over to Kidani to try there pool/water stuff. Foodwise - Jiko and Sanaa were both fantastic, though Boma was a tad disappointing...I like the Tusker House lunch/dinner buffet better...though the Zebra Domes are super yummy. (They have them at Mara too.)

Loved the DVC Studio room - very spacious, well laid out. Loved the Savannah view. (We finished the trip with a night at POP, and was amazed at how tiny the room felt after AKV.) Biggest negative - the room location was at the far end of the building, 5th floor, and it was quite a walk to and from the bus, but not too bad from the pool. The bus service was great - I know people complain about the distance to the parks, but even MK was only about 16 minutes on the bus. We had really good bus karma, generally 5-10 minute waits max. Also loved the super short ride to DAK - though only spent 2 days there.

Overall, a major thumbs up on the whole trip - though honestly i didn't feel it "spoiled" us for going back to the Mods/Values.- except possibly room size. With how much we spent, we won't be able to stay deluxe again for a while anyway!

Thanks for the review. We're also renting DVC points for a SV Studio for our upcoming trip. I'm sure we'll love it, but I am also sure that, like you, we won't mind going back to a mod (heck, we added two nights at Coronado onto our trip, so we'll be going back to a mod right away!) too much. We love POR and besides, less money spent on an already overpriced room leaves more money to spend on overpriced food and souveniers, haha. ;)

We are renting points and staying at Kidani in November. Our friends are staying offsite at the same time. I was hoping to "invite them over" to check out the Lodge, and quite honestly, show them what they are missing. (They are too cheap to stay onsite at all!) I didn't want to invite them, however, if they would not be allowed to participate in the activities of the resort. Does anyone know what is off limits? the pool? the activities? Community Hall? Walking around and looking at the animals would probably be sufficient to accomplish my goal ;), I just wanted to know in advance.

Thanks!

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help, I have read lots of the thread but still have a couple of questions about room requests.

We will be staying for 14 nights so can only afford a standard view should I make a room request in advance or wait and see if we get lucky at check in?

It will be our 21st wedding anniversary would you inform them of this in advance?:lovestruc

How should I make a room request, by fax or phone? And how far in advance of arrival?

My ultimate wish would be a high floor, near to the lobby with a savannah view but as I haven't paid for a savannah view would I be allowed to put this request instead - best view available, near lobby, high view?

Thanks in advance, Flo

We are booked into Kidani Village the week of Dec 11-18, 2010. I have a standard view booked- I don't have any requests in. I am wondering if I should put some in? Is there something I should be asking for?

Definitely let them know that you will be celebrating your 21st wedding anniversary during this trip. It may possibly bring you some pixie dust. At the very least you will be given "Happy Anniversary" buttons when you check in. Wearing these buttons during your stay will garner you numerous cheerful greetings from both cast members and other guests. If you have ADRs there is a place to mark that you are celebrating a special occasion. That gave us a few perks last year from complimentary champagne to free desserts. (We were not on the dining plan so the free desserts came in nice.)

You really should not request a savannah view since you have not booked that so your idea of best view available sounds good. Are you staying at Jambo House rather than Kidani? If so, the 3rd floor is the main floor at Jambo House, AKL. The restaurants are near the lobby on the Zebra Trail side on the first floor. The only CS (Mara) is also located outside near Boma & Jiko (the two TS restaurants.) We have booked a Savannah View and requested Zebra Trail, 3rd floor (because it affords better animal viewing than the lower floors and the 4th floor & above are concierge and DVC.)

We are booked into Kidani Village the week of Dec 11-18, 2010. I have a standard view booked- I don't have any requests in. I am wondering if I should put some in? Is there something I should be asking for?

Hi Dana, I just sent you a PM a few minutes ago. Sorry, but I don't know anything about the various views at Kidani.

For those of you that have been following my tale of DH's recent health problems I just wanted to let you know that we made the decision today to go ahead and paid in full so that we can celebrate our magical vacation in December! :yay::):love: We do have a scooter rental lined up as he will most likely require it to go more than a few blocks at a time. Our Disney specialist TA is making sure that AKL is aware that we are renting a scooter.

I'm so happy you are going in December!!! take it slow and enjoy each other and the magic!!!

Thank you Kathy, yes I am hoping to stay in Jambo house, thank you again for your advice.

I hope you both have a wonderful holiday.:goodvibes

Just back last night from a 5-day stay at Kidani in a 1BR - LOVED IT! I thought I'd miss the hustle & bustle of staying at the Boardwalk Area or at a monorail resort but it was so nice to come back at night to peace & quiet. Kidani is so small too, the buses were never crowded, and we had the lobby & other areas to ourselves sometimes too! We went to Cape May one night & that area felt so "busy" compared to Kidani. Not that I don't love that, but we were up before dawn & closed whatever park was open late til midnight, so coming back to total relaxtion was great! It was super hot so we did come back to the room during the day to rest & freshen up. I didn't go to the pool but everyone else did, and they loved it.

The villa was just perfect. It was similar in size to BLT. We had 4 adults sharing & had plenty of room. We were in room 7821 (standard view). We overlooked the lobby entrance & Disney transportation stop, but it was still very nice. The savannahs didn't seem to have as much activity on them as when we stayed at AKL a few years ago, but it was so so hot, maybe that had something to do with it. FL tied or broke high heat records this week, it was brutal. Very humid too. I thought it was pretty crowded too. Did the MNSSHP on Tuesday which I thought was very crowded. I can check that off my list that I did it, but I don't ever need to go back. We got on more rides & attractions during EMH than during the party, and it was so mobbed at some points it was gridlock.

I will post pics from Kidani once I get them uploaded!

Got back a few days ago from our first stay at Kidani Village. We had a 1 bedroom standard view and loved it. We were very close to the elevator so seeing the animals in the morning was always a treat for the kids. We loved all the space and how peaceful the resort always was. We will definitely stay here again someday.
