The All-New "unofficial" AKL/AKV's Jambo & Kidani FAQ thread.....

Although we've only used it once, we found out that using your car from AKL is fastest to get just about anywhere on property. Buses are great for those who do not want to rent a car and fly in to Orlando, but for those that rent cars, we use it to go everywhere. Quicker to get to/from hotel; hands down.

Hmmm, I may have to have him read this. We stayed at boardwalk last time and spent alot of travel time between worlds and resorts.

COming out of lurkdom! I am getting confliciting reports on the bus service. DH was looking forward to not driving but others are saying rent a car. Any advice?

W are renting a car but it's our first trip there so I don't know first hand whether driving around at WDW is better then the busses. I have received conflicting advice from friends. ONe friend has told me that we just have to have a car because it's much more convienient then the busses. However, she is also a DVC owner (who i am renting pts. from) so at DVC property she gets free valet parking. Then another friend has told me that I would be crazy to drive around WDW when I can get door to door service on their busses. So I guess I would love to hear more opinions on this too.

(wow angel you have over 35,000 posts! You are a real dis veteran!)

Also I was wondering has anyone been able to go on line while staying at AKV/AKL to sign up for their boarding passes and then were you also able to print these out?

When on the phone with a DVC CM he told me that I could not do that there. But then on another thread others have mentioned being able to do this at their hotels and even in MK and Epcot.

Just found this thread. We're staying at AKL club level in December and cannot wait! Looks like I've got a lot of reading to do to catch up on all of the details and answer my questions.

My DH and I will be at the AKL Club Level Dec. 14-19. I see that you also joined the AKL Lite Thread.

Angiepangie8,
You can definitely get your boarding passes at the desks at hotels or Downtown Disney. I think there also might be places inside the parks that can do it, too. I've done it a few times already. Just make sure you have picture i.d. with you. :thumbsup2 I had to laugh about the paper straw thing. Brought back memories of our last trip. I thought I would mention to the girls that the straws were made out of paper. You would have thought it was the best invention of the century! They got the brainstorm to make spitball shooters out of them and then proceeded to have a war w/ them in the rental car. Sorry to anyone who may have found them after we returned it...we did make them look for every last one! :rolleyes1

We are going down in December also & staying at DVC AKL. :goodvibes Can't wait. What's the AKL Lite thread??
Penny:hippie:

In answer to a PP, we did not have a flat screen last week.

In reference to driving, it is an individual thing. We have driven around WDW and, to be honest, I hated it. One thing to remember is at AKL you do not share busses with another resort. When you get on that bus you do not sotp until you reach the park. We must have hit it just right because our bus service was excellent.

I'm a little worried about the bus service at AKL because it is so far out. But, I really hate the thought of driving there. I love the bus service because you don't have to think about it. The only time when I may consider driving is for a breakfast at the Polynesian which will be hard to get to on time on a bus , then monorail I think. I don;t want to have to leave at 7:00 for an 8:30 breakfast.

So, only some of the rooms have flat screens? I don't plan on watching too much tv but was just curious. We arrive this Saturday!! :goodvibes

Woo hoo! Wonderful Hubby would love a flat screen! I hope our room has one. They should be done by January, dontcha think?

We had an early breakfast at Ohana and just took a cab. We also did not want to leave early enough to use the transportation system.

We were in room 4317 and I walked in and said "What, no flat screen?" My grandson just laughed at me.

ALL the AKV rooms have flat screens.

I believe SOME of the AKL rooms now have them, too...but I'm not sure. I think they're being put in as replacements for the old sets, slowly, but I'm not 100% confident of that.

Thank you! Good to know they can do it at the hotel. So does the front desk actually punch in your flight # for you and register you for your boarding pass or is their a computer in the lobby from which we would do this? How does this work?

First, congrats on your first WDW trip. You are so going to love it. :goodvibes The first time DH and I went we rented a car and drove to all the parks and resorts. The second time we rented a car, and deceided to try out the bus system from AKL. Well the car stayed in the parking lot the whole trip. The buses were wonderful and much less waking compared to driving and parking. Since then we haven't bothered with a car. As you can see from my signiture line we have stayed at AKL on each of our trips.

Also I was wondering has anyone been able to go on line while staying at AKV/AKL to sign up for their boarding passes and then were you also able to print these out?

The front desk concierge can do this for you and will gladly. If per chance you get a less then friendly CM just ask for the manager. Each of the Disney resorts has done this for us within our 24 pre-check-in time for Southwest Airlines. We live out west so SWA is the way to go for non-stop comfortable flights.

Wishing you a wonderful vacation and much pixie dust. pixiedust:

I need information about the bus route to and from AKL to BB, TL, DD. Are they direct routes or do they stop at other parks/resorts? I know that the bus to the 4 major parks are direct, but what about the other minor locations?

They are not direct. I think that it was the BB that used the same bus as DTD and I *think* that TL shared the bus with HS.
