As promised, here is the update from my TA. Stay away from Sago or move to the Poly. The entire 5th floor of that building is closed. The TA's are upset that they were never informed by Disney that all these renovations were to happen now. I did request to stay in Sago, because we always stay there. I have asked not to be there after this news. So, the luck of the draw will happen in 5 days from now as to where I will be for 7 nights.
Wow, can you believe the upgrade from value resort to the GF? If all these rooms are closed off to the guests who actually booked the GF, where are they going to put everyone? RPC floors, closed. 5th floor of Sago, closed. I know that I better not be moved out of the GF for what I am paying because the GF doesn't have enough available rooms and is overbooked.
Here are a few thoughts...in no particular order...I hope they're comforting.
1. I don't think I've ever read a negative report about the CM's at the GF. They seem very well trained and it sounds as if the hospitality there is stellar. I'm sure they're ready to deal with guests who are (rightfully) upset about the work being done.
2. There have been many people from this thread who have been there recently and only one seemed overly negative about the construction, and if I may be so bold, he/she seemed to fixate on the negative rather than look at the positive (ie: the 75% of the resort that is NOT under construction).
3. Geographically, if any building had to be under construction, Sago would be the best one. It seems as if they've worked on the buildings from south to north and are finishing up with Sago before they start work on the RPC in a few weeks. Sago is very easy to avoid being in, or for that matter, looking at. If you're placed in Boca Chica, Big Pine Key or on the courtyard side of Conch, you'll never see the work.
4. I don't know what your travel party is like MommyGina, but I'll tell you, in mine, I'm the only one who views the GF as anything more than a bed. They're excited to stay at a deluxe and look forward to the monorail convenience, but otherwise, it's just a place to sleep. Therefore, the only one who will be overly affected by this will be me, and I'm trying to go under the mantra that if I let it bother me and go in angry or prepared for the worst, I'm only setting myself up to make the trip miserable for me, my travel companions, and any CM I come in contact with.
5. I highly doubt you'll be moved out of the GF. It's Disney's flagship resort. Where else could they put you? CL at Poly or Contemp? I'd take that!

They're not going to say, "Sorry, you're going to a moderate." If for some crazy reason you have to leave the GF, I can only imagine that it would be a magical upgrade of epic proportions. I look at it this way, those lucky people upgraded from Value to GF will *likely* be placed in GV rooms. If they are, then gee MommyGina, where does that leave you and I?

A lagoon view mabye?

Sugar Loaf?

, dare I say it the RPC?
6. If anyone has read my posts on this thread, you'll understand that I've done a lot of thinking about this, and what I'm saying here is a huge turnaround from where I was 2 weeks ago. It's Disney, it's the Grand, I'm going to be with people I care a great deal about. There's no reason to be worried. I'm sure the room assigner already has our rez in front of him/her and we'll see where we land. If it's not acceptable, we'll politely, but firmly ask to be moved, and I'm sure the GF will come up with something GRAND for us.
Y'all have a GRAND day now!
