We checked in yesterday and what an awesome resort. Great service, the monorail is awesome. Room is very bright and comfortable. We did get one of the worst views, back of the building by the courtyard pool, but we got the king bed I requested so didn't bother to ask to be moved and Big Pine Key is so close to the Main Building and both pools. The room is still beautiful and we really don't spend time on the balcony, from the room the view is fine. Went to Basin White today and that store is so fun! Going to try out a bath bomb tonight! We really love it here!

Thanks, for all the info. I was seriously considering switching from our LVCL at the POLY to RPC as I would love to stay in the tower, but without the guarantee of a water view at minimum it just doesn't seem worth it. I know if we got a bad view, I'd be feeling bad that we were paying more for a view that isn't as good.

I love the looks of the rooms at the GF, so bright and cheery, where as I think the POLY ones seem so dark. But I guess when it comes to trading an awesome view for a bright room, we'll just have to stay put this time.

If you want a bright and cheery room and to experience the GF, I would go for it. The feel of the Main Bldg. is very nice. Much "fancier" than the Poly. Totally different experience. I love the orchestra and piano music, the smell of the lilies and other flowers in the lobby, afternoon tea at the Garden View Lounge (or the "Lite" version in the RPC Lounge) - and all the beautiful white woodwork on the exterior of the buildings.
Personally, I think Poly LVCL is one of the most special places to stay - period. Views of the Castle are far superior to most of those from the GF. But the Main Bldg. of GF - the turret rooms, in particular, are also at the top of my list (but those rooms have one King bed only).

Again - if you've stayed at the Poly and want to try the GF, I think you should. It's a beautiful resort and your family will love it. Just a totally different theme from the Poly.

Big Pine Key is a great location, isn't it? Have a great time!
Does the resort seem very crowded?

Can I ask why? I'm just trying to sort it all out. If you leave pools and hot tubs out of it, because although my kids will swim, they aren't really part of the equation, can you tell me what you love more at GFCL than Poly CL. I would reallly appreciate some input from those who have stayed at GF. I've visited there many times, and it's beautiful, but can you explan the advantages to me. I just don't see how looking at a courtyard pool can be as good as watching wishes from my patio/balcony or watching the electric parade go by like I would be able to from the the LV at the POLY Hawaii building.

But seriously, I can't stop thinking about the brighter rooms. Can you tell me about the food at the RPC? What about outside at night. Is one resort brighter at night. I know the POLY can be a little dark, and the last time I was there, I got eaten alive by mosquitos, but I'm not sure that wouldnt' happen at the GF too.

Although I can't answer any of your questions, I surely can sympathize with your resort decision "debate".....:scratchin

We're total Poly-lovers, but this year (for my 40th bday) I convinced my family to stay Club-level at the Grand. On one hand, I'm so excited to try the GF. But on the other hand, I'm nervous about missing all that we love about the Poly.....I have to come to this thread often - for reassurance!:lovestruc

go back a few pages to about the beginning fo june (i got back june 2nd) I psoted about 50 pictures within the span of a few pages of all the concierge food, pics of the lounge, etc. etc.
I too have a problem with dark rooms. stayed at AKL and HATED how dark it was. I do love the poly though b/c we love being on the monorial and my husband loves the tropical theme but we both agree the GF has the best service, the best CM's, the most beautifula nd relaxing lobby etc. we love to sit in the luneg at night and drink champagne and listen to teh orchestra. there is no orchestra or piano player at teh poly.
did we watch wishes from our balcony? one night. all teh other nights we were busy being out and about in teh parks eating or watching wishes from inside the MK.
also, it is SUPER nice if its raining etc. and you get off teh bus or monorail you dont have to get wet running to an outer building, or if its hot you dont have to trek out to your building. you are just right there, right in the middle of all the action. I feel so bad wattching people run all teh way out to a far building getting soaking wet! There is also plenty of outside lighting.

different strokes for different folks, but we just love the grand. we have always been treated SO well there and it is very special to us.

Your pictures and room look amazing. I wonder what our chances would be this late in the game of getting close to that room if we requested. We have 3 rooms booked at the Poly. Just to clarify, you booked standard club level in RPC...right? Oh and were there donuts for breakfast...my ds wants to know???LOL The poly doesn't even have muffins:-(

pezaddict231 - Glad you are having a great time and love the resort! Big Pine does have a great location, so close to the pools and main building.

simplymama - If the view is very important to you, I'd stick with the Poly LV CL you already have booked. Though the GF is our very favorite resort, you can't beat the MK view from the Hawaii building - just gorgeous!

Here is our courtyard view from the deluxe RPC room, 2 queens (sorry, it's not a panoramic photo):

HTH!

you can always call and see if they ahvea ny standard RPC rooms left (yes thats what I booked) can't hurt to try!

I dont think they had donuts..but they do have bagels, muffins, cheese danishes and other fruit filled pasteries, very donut-like haha.

I just read on a site (great orlando discounts of somethng like that)that the Sugar Loaf doesn't have wine with it's evening offerings. Is that true?

Wine, beer, and champagne is served from 5-7pm with the evening offerings. Since I can't drink, it wasn't important to me, but I don't think there was wine out from 8-10pm with the evening cordials and desserts.

Hey folks! :goodvibes

Can anyone tell me if M. Mouse Mercantile in the GF sells those My Disney Girl dolls? We have an ADR in GF this weekend (and we're checking out the resort for a possible stay next summer) and my DD9 wants to get another one. I know they sell the outfits but I'm not sure about the actual dolls.

TIA! :thumbsup2

Hey MsStinkerBelle :wave2: Nice to see you on the GF thread :yay:

Thanks! :goodvibes I've been debating whether to try the GF after all of my Poly stays but DD has decided I should 'try' it. Now to read through all the great information in this thread! :surfweb:

Please tell your DD 'thanks' from myself and my DD! She's so excited by this news.

It'll be great visiting the GF again. DD gets a kick out of how I'm always so amazed at the 'real' flower arrangements through the main building. I can't help but sniff them...a lot! :rotfl:

MsStinkerBelle - :wave2: I know what you mean, those flower arrangements are so beautiful, and smell incredible! DD and I love to walk in the lobby during the night, when the doors are closed most of the time, as the smell of the flowers seems to linger!:cloud9:

Smart DD! It's always good to try something new ;) I'm sure you will enjoy the GF. And it will be interesting after so many Poly stays to try the GF since it is right next door - yet so different!

Hey k&a&c'smom :wave2:
I agree - we love the resort lobbies at night when they're not too busy :cloud9:

Does anybody know if I can have the slipper desert and the mini castle cake sent to our room at the GF when we stay there for our anniversary? If so what number would i have to call and how many days notice? price?

snow.white - The mini castle cake is $25, plus tax and tip; not sure of the price of the slipper anymore, it's been several years since we've ordered one. The cake can be sent to the room, not sure if the slipper has to be served in a restaurant (that's what I was told then, but things change) - private dining at the GF would be the ones to call, I'd call a couple days ahead, if possible.

Here is a link to the cake photo thread on the restaurants board, so that you can see the two and read about others who've ordered them:

If you want delivered to your room I would call private dining.
