I was wondering if you know if the cooking class for kids is still an activity done at GF. I wanted to sign my DS up to do this winter, but now I am not finding the info on it.
Thanks!

Unfortunately, the Grand Adventures in Cooking has be discontinued :guilty:

Just thought I'd join this thread...DH and I are staying in the RPC July
19th-22nd for our first wedding anniversary weekend! I'm soooooooo excited! On our first day we've reserved the cabanas down by the pool which I'm looking forward too (hopefully it won't be 100 degrees like it is right now!)

I've never stayed at the GF before so I can't wait to see what the RPC looks like...excited for that champagne!!!:cool1:

you are going to love it and never want to stay anywhere else!

Hi! I read through most of this thread when I booked my room back in Jan and haven't really been back since ( I didn't want to obsess  ).

My trip is rapidly approaching. I added 2 extra days (@ POR then switching to GF) so I am now only 2 weeks away from my trip!!

I did receive an email from my travel agent yesterday and was wondering if anyone had anymore info on this. Here is what she wrote:

Please be advised Now – June 27, 2009: Stairway and handrail remediation and refinishing will occur in Lodge Building 8 (Boca Chica). Workers will strip the emergency stairs to bare metal, treat steel, and apply primer and finish coats to the stairways. Now – June 30, 2009: Lodge Building 6 (Sugarloaf Key) elevators will receive mechanical and electronic upgrades. Elevator service will be limited to one operating at a time, which may result in waits at peak times. Now – Oct. 31, 2009: The tile floor in the lobby of Building 4 ( Main Building ) will be replaced. Guests will hear and see activities throughout both levels of the main lobby.*

Only the last thing will apply to my stay. I hope they don't tear out the floor all at once. Maybe they will work on it in small sections? It won't really bother me (Im so happy to be staying at the GF I would sleep on the lawn and still be estatic!!) I just am hoping to get good photos....ones without the floor missing :rotfl:

from what a CM told me a few weeks ago the new flooring is going to be beautiful. I can't wait to see it. I would THINK they would do it in sections but you just never know. I am sure your trip will be great either way!

It's almost here!!!! In 11 days I will be at the Grand Floridian for my 1yr anniversary. I am looking to do a private dining in our room for that thursday but I want it to be a surprise. I want a custom menu and for the dessert I want the mini castle cheesecake. When is the latest I can order this and set this up?

Thanks!:woohoo:

4 days and counting. :yay:Why does time go so slow the last few days before a trip??:rotfl: Thanks for all in this thread, I've had no more regrets or second thoughts over switching. Just wish we could have gotten it for our whole trip instead of having to move for our last two nights.

Calissto31 - the general consensus seems to be that you need to order a cake at least 48 hours prior to delivery. It may be possible to get it with less notice, but I think I would call by the 48-hour mark, just to be sure.

simplymama - You're so close!:goodvibes Even so, I think I would keep watching for a cancellation for your last two days, if that's what you really want - you never know, availability may pop up. Good luck, and have a great trip!:sunny:

lizbaby007 - only two weeks to go, so exciting for you!

Katieinwonderland - :welcome:

Just wanted to say that I'm going for my 1 year anniversary too!!!!! I still have 26 days to go, I can hardly wait! I've been looking into private dining and custom cakes and everything, I called about a private cake and was told to make final arrangments for that around two weeks ahead of time.

I've planned out two mini anniversary cakes for us, one with white chocolate mousse like we had at our wedding and one with peanut butter mousse like DH had in his grooms cake (yuk!)

We're also going for massages at the spa, doing a fireworks cruise and doing the dolphins in depth tour...all in four days! It will be a busy weekend!

Eeek..
I hope the entire lobby won't be torn up when we're there in late August. I've been waiting for 20 years to stay here and I'd be really disappointed if the lobby was all torn up and unusable.

I have thought the same thing!!!
I am hoping not...

Actually, I just called the Grand Floridian directly and 2 CMs had no information about the floors being worked on in the main building whatsoever. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I don't mean to be a baby about it, but my group and I were very close between picking GF or CR, and if the lobby is going to be in a state of disrepair, I'd rather go to the CR this time.

Is there a different category for Marina vs lagoon view?

Or is water just water -- meaning if I booked lagoon will I face the marina?

Anyone get an answer to the lobby remodling question?

So, the first time I called, I had gotten the consierge desk. I called the real, main desk number and spoke to a much more "with it" sounding woman. Her computer revealed no plans involving any maintenence in late August, but she said she would check with people higher up than her to verify and after being put on hold for close to 10 minutes, she said that she had spoken to people 2 levels higher than herself and that the plans to redo the floors in the main building were pushed back to the fall.
I hope this is the case. Honestly, with the money I'm spending, there would be a good old fashioned stamping of my foot if I got there to find the lobby torn up.

I asked my TA and she said she was told it has been pushed back to budget cuts.
They have already been putting this off for some time she said.

For something that special I would call private dining asap that way there are no mistakes.
