I've decided to take a day out from the parks and spend some time relaxing around the GF.

I have stayed at the GF (RPC) once before but did not really take in much of the resort, I was always too busy , this time (RPC again) I'm thinking about have a manicure and pedicure at the spa, taking the walk from the GF to the Poly, but would appreciate advice from the GF regulars at what not to miss around the GF itself (I'm not really a pool lounging person as I get bored).

Thanks

What about sitting in the lobby while the orchestra is playing? Or doing the afternoon tea?

I have to vote for doing the afternoon tea as well - there's an offering on the menu that includes a very nice glass of champagne for a real treat! :cloud9:

Whatever you decide, have a "Grand" day!

Thanks guys - I'd completely forgotten about the afternoon tea, just trying to book it now :goodvibes

ClareH37 - what about renting watercraft? My family has always enjoyed the SeaRaycers, they're a lot of fun.

We do the afternoon tea every trip and love it, so that should be a nice experience for you.

My favorite activities are simply wandering the resort, taking in the ambiance: sitting at the marina with a cool drink or snack and looking at the castle; lying near the pool with a book and a mai tai; sitting in the lobby listening to the piano or orchestra; poking through the shops.

I like sitting on the beach in the swing. It is so peaceful. Also, I like walking to the Wedding Pavillion and strolling the grounds there. Then walking to the Poly and looking at the bricks. Bring your refillable mug and take your time. Then take the monorail back to the GF if you are too tired to walk back. Seems like we always take the monorail back. My children bring me inside to the gift shop near the monorail, very convenient for them!

i just talked to Disney and we can move our reservation to a deluxe main building CL king room. the cost will be an additional $166 per day. is it worth it?

I've been wondering about these deluxe main building CL king rooms. Do any of them have MKV? I'm not familiar at all with the buildings of GF & which have TPV ... CL TPV ... etc.
Ideally for an potential anniversary trip (in 18 mths - nothing like planning ahead :rotfl:) we would love a king bed, CL, TPV. Is this possible to book, esp. without the king bed just being a request only (although we could live with not having that ... CL, TPV would be the most important).

I would say that as long as your budget is comfortable w/ the additional $166/day, the main house is always worth it! :cloud9:

We are staying CL Sugarloaf in May and are hoping for a late checkout on Sunday, May 23. Our plan doesn't leave until 7:00 PM so DME will probably pick us up around 4:00 PM. I don't want to be without a place to rest or freshen up mid-day before going to the airport if necessary. What is the latest they will give us for a late check-out?

If we can't get a late check-out, do we have any other option for finding a place to rest or freshen up? I'm assuming once we are checked out of the room that we won't be able to get into the CL lounge (maybe I should ask about the CL angle on the CL thread).

Thanks.

EDITED TO ADD: I FOUND THE ANSWER ON ANOTHER THREAD! DISREGARD THE QUESTION!

There are two types of main building king rooms, or honeymoon rooms. One type is on the second floor over Gasparilla's and has a view of the castle, but since they have now separated the MK view from the std. view rooms, I think that is a separate category.

The other type is the turret rooms, which are mostly near the themed pool end of the main building. Most of the turret rooms DO NOT have a MK view, there is one that is on the 5th floor over Summer Lace that does, but that's only one out of the 6.

disney minnie - BQ is simply the room category code for the resort.

Whether the extra for the main building is worth it is up to you. Since it probably won't include a theme park view, I would have to weigh what is most important to me: being in the main building, or seeing the castle from my room.

ancestry - I will answer your question anyway, for others who may be wondering. You can request a late check out (usually 1 p.m.), sometimes it can be granted but sometimes they are full and need the room. Either way, you can visit the CL lounge until midnight of your check out day, so there is a place to relax, have a drink or snack, etc.

We booked a room for the Sugarloaf building. If I make a request for a turret room (I think that's what they are called) would that include a balcony. If they do not, I'm not even going to make that request!
Thanks!

They're called lodge tower rooms. One does not have a balcony, the others do.

The turret rooms are in the main building. HTH. Happy planning! :surfweb:

ok, now a question about the daybeds. How exactly do they work- do they actually fold out, or do you simply remove the pillows off the back of the couch to create the bed?

I understand the lodge tower rooms do not have daybeds- it's just a normal couch/loveseat. Correct?

Thanks!

The day beds sort of flip over. Magickeepers will do it for you though when they do turndown.

We've not stayed in a lodge tower room but from the pictures I've seen, they have a loveseat but no daybed.

Just had to pop in and say hello to all my fellow GF fans.... I've been over on the Families board trying to research a new stroller to bring for our trip!

I'm getting a little more excited about our trip next month as it gets closer (33 days!) but a part of me is still a bit sad that we're not staying at the GF.... I will miss the beautiful grounds, the cabanas, the baby pool, the musicians, and the wonderful SMELL of the resort! I'm trying to convince myself that I'll get into the tropical feel of the Poly once we arrive....

We do have lots planned at the GF though - our arrival dinner is at Citricos, girls-only afternoon Tea, date night at Narcoosee's and lunch at the GF cafe.... LOL - Looking at that one would think I thought I was staying at the GF! Ha ha! :rotfl: Ironically, when we stayed at the Grand last August, we didn't eat at any of the restaurants!
