This is probably one of my best photos of Bay Lake Tower.
When we went in August, I made sure to be up early one morning, to photograph sunrise behind Bay Lake Tower. I got lucky with a pretty sunrise!

Craig that picture looks amazing. Also if you don't mind can I please save that picture to my Photobucket account and post it as the main picture for Bay Lake Tower when it's time to start a new thread.

Hello,

This is my first time checking out this thread. I own DVC at BWV, so that is where we stay. However, next August we are coming down for our 20th anniversary, and I have decided this will be the trip when we finally stay at the CR for 2-3 nights before moving to the BWV. I have always wanted to stay at CR since my first monorail ride through there as a child. My question is, do they generally offer room discounts at the end of August? I must have a tower room with a MK view. Also, how far in advance would something like that fill up, should I book now and then change later if a discount is offered or just wait for the discounts?

Thanks!!

Dina and I feel the same way about the view, we MUST have a MK view! It is so nice now that you can pre-book it that way. We used to make sure to get to the hotel at 8-10 in the morning to request a MK view at check in!

That being said, since the view and dates are so important to you, I would book asap and hopefully keep checking for discounts.
A convention can ruin your chances for getting into the hotel sometimes, which is very frustrating.

I agree with making a reservation right now because this way you can get the Magic Kingdom View right away and for the exact dates you want to stay there. As for the discounts you can always see what they are like after they get released, however there is no guarantee there will be one for the dates you will be there. Plus not all room categories are available on certin discounts and if they are only a select number of rooms would be available.

Wow, Craig, you should be doing the photos for the WDW website::yes::

What kind of lens did you use for that? Is it re-touched at all? Do you shoot primarily with a digital or do you still shoot any film/slides?

We usually go every August and usually to the CR sometime between the 2nd - 4th week. I have always used a public promo or pin code (we wouldn't ever go otherwise;)). We have used the 4/3 and room-only savings from 20% - 40% over the years. In past years, the free dining bounceback offer coincided with FD being available to everyone at some point. I believe FD starts August 15th next year. However, we never use FD because a room-only discount is always a bigger savings for us at the CR (or any Deluxe) than FD, and we also don't like the DP anymore.

I am very confident another room-only discount will be released for next August, but maybe that's wishful thinking:rolleyes1.

You'll all get a kick out of this! We had a trip to DLR planned for earlier this Sept. and a trip to WDW for Nov. 2010. We had to cancel our DLR trip due to scheduling problems, and since it was DD birthday trip, we had to figure something else out. Our DLR APs expire in Oct., so WDW became equal in price to DLR because of free dining. We had our TA book us at POFQ. CRResortFan4Life, you'll remember that I asked about the walkway because we were going to take a taxi from POFQ to CR and use the walkway to MK for an EMH. Well, we decided to move up to a deluxe, but there was limited availability. We ended up with the YC. Yesterday, my TA emailed me that she found CR Tower MK View. I called her and emailed her and said grab it! Yeah!!! A week looking at Cinderella's castle for my DD who had to delay her birthday trip. Her favorite princess is Cinderella, so she is on cloud 9!!!

Your DD will have a great belated birthday trip at the CR and the Castle. Have you made any ADRs yet?

Have a terrific vacation!

congrats...your daughter will have the time of her life. We never stayed at CR but ever Disney trip we visit CR b/c my son loves the Arcade room. I booked his first CR stay in Dec and he does not know yet (he is 4yrs old and has been asking to take him to Disney and of course I say we will go soon but when we stay at CR he'll have the biggest smile ever so I can relate to you). Have a magical vacation and please post back on your trip and how much your daughter liked her birthday trip. :)

What about the different types of rooms! I have a Garden Wing room booked with a Stanard View. That was almost 300 a night. How much more for a Garden Wing Perfered? Is the Tower better? Can you have a standard room at the Tower?

Last question, i promise. I noticed people asking about BLT and using there pool. What is that?

Thanks so much!

Nicole.

I cant wait until someday i can help someone like all of you are helping me!

Here is a link for the 2009 rates so you can see the cost of each room category.

Now is the Tower better, it's a question of personal opinion. All the standard rooms in the Tower and Garden Wing look the same and are designed the same, so the difference is their location and their cost per night. Obviously the Tower is easier when going to the stores and the dining locations, however from the Garden Wing it's a 5 minute walk or less depending on where you're room would be located.

Finally the BLT pool is the main pool for Bay Lake Tower, however it's off limit to Contemporary guests.

The decision between garden wing and tower for us came down to 2 things: view and convenience. For us the view of either the MK park on one side or lake on the other from 5-12 floors above ground level makes a big difference. Combine that with being able to hop on an elevator and step off into the shops/food/monorail concourse and for us its worth the extra money. Some folks prefer the proximity to the pool / beach scene along with the money savings of the garden wing. In my opinion you can't go wrong either way.:goodvibes
