I just changed my reservation from Tower Mk view to TPV CL for Aug 19-22 and mine too is list as 2 bedroom villa when I look online. too funny. got the confirmation quickly and the confirmation is listed as "NUXCONTEMPORARY-PARK-ATRIUM-CLUB" Nux I believe is just the discount code?
We are thrilled to try the CR and now with 40% pin couldnt resist the CL. Thank you for all the information. I have learned alot these last 2 hours

One thing that has always bugged me is when people call the Contemporary a convention resort, however I always thought they are doing it in a negative way trying to put it down because of it's lack of a in your face theme. Obviously it is also a convention resort based on how big their convention center is and number of convention guests that stay there which I won't deny. However when those who don't like the Contemporary based on their lack of a theme use the convention label as an excuse does it make you upset or mad, because they are not the only convention resort on WDW property. There are also convention centers built at the Grand Floridian, Boardwalk, Yacht Club and Coronado Springs, however I always thought others give them a free pass about having one because they have more of a in your face theme. So has anyone ever wondered why others don't use the convention factor when mentioning those resorts but the Contemporary gets this unfair stereotype just because of their theme.

A few years back, my wife and I went to dinner at California Grille (which was excellent by the way). In any case, we arrived a bit early and just sat outside where they take you up in the elevator. In the 15 minutes we sat there, we saw 1 family coming in from the pool, and over a dozen people in business suits scattered around different seats with laptops, cell phones, etc. I can't speak for the others, but the GF doesn't feel that way at all. I stayed there in January and didn't see one person who was there for a convention.

My wife has always wanted to stay at the Contemporary. That's why I'm checking this thread out. I think it's a sharp looking hotel, and I'd love staying so close to the Magic Kingdom. I just can't imagine wanting to spend more than a couple of days there. If anything, we may try spending 2 days at the beginning of our trip next year there, before moving over to the GF.

I agree with what you are saying. A couple of years ago my DH and I went on a "Date Night" and had dinner at Cali Grill, before our ADR we decided to have a drink at their bar on the concourse level. There were so many men and women in business suits on their cell phones talking to whoever about their conference. There were also people in polos walking around with the names of their company's logos on it. But that is not going to stop us from staying there in September. We are very excited about our visit and we are going for 7 nights. I love the fact that we are going to be on the monorail line (haven't stayed on the monorail line since I was a kid) and the fact that we are in walking distance to MK is also getting me excited (also, maybe the fact that we have a MK Tower View room booked ). As for other resorts that have convention centers, I too agree with what the PP said. We stayed at the BC in December and I had no idea that they had a convention center there, it wasn't until I saw the resort map after check-in did I know that. However, I do agree with the CR FAN that CR does get a lot of bad rap about different things, but one thing's for sure, CR will always be one of my family's favorite resorts to go to and visit (and finally stay at), and to know that we are staying at the first resort at built on WDW property, is awesome.

Unless you go looking for people who are there for conventions the only time you will see them is when they are on the 2nd floor in some of the various meeting rooms or if you walk into the convention center. However if you happen to see them walking around the 4th floor or the lobby it won't spoil any Disney magic, now the reason I say that is because others have mentioned that in the past when putting the Contemporary down because of their conventions. Also sometimes these people who stay there on conventions bring their families down so they make it a working vacation, which I think is one thing others forget when mentioning the Contemporary and conventions in the same sentence.

Well just like I previously said the 2nd floor of the Tower is where you will see a lot of guests who are there for conventions.

We're going to be staying in the garden wing. Is there any way to request a room that's as close to the main bldg. as possible? Does anyone know the room #'s that are close to the main bldg.? TIA!

Just say "close to main building" in your request when you make your reservation.

FWIW, It's not that far to walk. We were about halfway down the main building and didn't find it all inconvenient (and we were closer to the door that leads straight out to the pool). The further down the wing you are, the closer to the beach, too!

Wifi is spotty at best. DH tried it last year from the lobby and from the 4th floor. He ended up working in the room for the direct(plug-in) connection.

We stayed a week at the Contemporary in late January. We booked a MK view room and were upgraded to the 12th floor. I never noticed any conventioneers but I wasn't looking It was my dream to stay there and it really did live up to my expectations. We plan to spend a week every January and I can't imagine staying anywhere else, I'm hooked. Now I have to convince DH that club level is the way to go
