Pure torture right?
Seriously my theory, and I have proved it on myself anyway, is that a lot of people do kind of a "fake" atkins and it impedes their weight loss. All of these fake sweet bars and vegtable recipes so people can feel like they are eating "healthy" do not help you in losing weight.
I lost most of my weight when I did "pure" atkins sticking to meat, cheese, fish, eggs, butter, cream etc...the real basics. You can throw in the occaisional sugar free jello if you want.
So the bet with Kelsie was if she doesn't lose more weight doing it my way then what she has been doing I have to fix all the dissers little wishy clip art things for 2 weeks.
I'm not worried, I know it works :)
Anyone else who makes the week without cheating gets a special limited edition "I survived the Alex wish challenge" clip art thingy.
Some other Alex Atkins theory for those who want the true experience:
1. I don't care when you eat, forget this no food after 7pm bull. If you are hungry eat. Just make it a piece of cheese instead of an atkins bar.
2. If you are not hungry DON'T eat. when I am "in the groove" I can easily go till 6 pm without eating a thing except diet coke and I feel fine. Don't force food in because you think you are "supposed" too.
3. Diet coke is fine.... drink at least a six pack per day if you want :)
4. Forget fakey sweets with your "cream cheese" they just make you want the real thing. I don't care how good you pretend they taste they don't :)
5. You can't cheat even a little bit. no...not that one cookie, can't do it. Not the crust you cut off your kids sandwich. nothing, nada, zip

Alex's advanced class
Ok you have been doing this for a few weeks and now Aunt Matilda's birthday party is coming up. You are all going out to the nicest resteraunt in town and you are worried that you won't be able to find anything Atkins on the menu.
Good.... DON'T WORRY!!!
Go out and have fun! Eat the pasta... the cheesecake.... eat everyone else's leftovers.... GO NUTS.....
BUT
and this is a big one...
You have to go back on the next morning. Don't even think about saying "well I cheated last nite so this won't matter. It will.
If you do it my way you will hardly notice a difference. You may not lose as much as you expected for a day but you will hardly notice it. If you don't go back on the next day you will notice it big time for a week.
Don't do it for the first several weeks and then limit it to once every two weeks untill you reach your goal weight.

OK, I may regret saying this since Greek Easter is this coming Sunday, but......I'm in. Oh golly what did I just say...I really love my Advantage bars first thing in the morning. Someone hit me please.

OK, I've been having a hard time with Atkins, and re-read a bunch of stuff last night to see where I was going wrong. Don't cheese, eggs, cream, etc HAVE carbs?

ALex:

What about cheese that has alot of carbs?? like Velveeta??

3 Carbs and 2 Sugars per oz.??

That seems really high... I guess we need to READ Everything

Tracy

Mare and Luvinit...
I should have been more specific. When I say Cheese I am talking the hard cheeses, american, mozzerella, provolone etc.
Velveeta isn't cheese it's chemical plastic :)
If you get the heavy cream the carbs are minimal.

I believe they do have carbs depending on portion sizes. I think Alex version, is more back to the basics of 'Atkins' and a plan that seemed to work really well for him (110 Pounds). Although Atkins does say you CAN have up to 20 carbs per day, it does not say you MUST have them and that may be the key. I worked to make sure I had them LOL!

There are differences in Atkins and Alex's version, such as skipping meals. But, to be honest, I've really hated forcing myself to eat when I wasn't hungry.

I've slowed down on my weight loss and after years of messing up my metabolism, I'm going to try this for 1 week and hopefully, I will get that kick start that I need to keep going. It was a challenge Alex made to me so please don't feel like you must do this if you're not comfortable with it. You need to do a plan that helps you to be successful. :)

I'm not sure if I can do this, I'll take it one day at a time. I’m going to miss my 1 low-carb tortilla per day more than anything else!

I weighed in this morning and I’m down 13 pounds.

So, day 1....here I come :)

You've got me excited now Alex (I know you LOVE to hear the ladies say that!;) ). I'm off to cook my bacon and eggs right now. I just had my pre-breakfast diet vanilla coke! I'm so glad that I can have my cream. I enjoy a diet rootbeer with a splash of heavy cream in the evenings.

:D

I Accept the Alex Challenge!:jester:

I want to second Kelsie's comment about this not being for everyone. This is an extreme version that may make someone who is not familiar with Atkins already, feel that the plan is "too tough". I implore ANYONE who feels this way to stick to the "regular" Atkins approach, NOT the "Alex Challenge" version that we are trying.

:)

Actually my diet is closer to the "original" atkins diet, I think he loosened it up in later years to make it more popular.
The book I have says "when hungry eat the amount that makes you feel satisfied, but not stuffed, when not hungry eat nothing or just a small protien snack to accompany your nutra vitamin supplements"

What about lunchmeat Alex? I enjoy a piece of turkey breast or ham wrapped up with some cream cheese. My lunch staple is usually a chicken cheesesteak minus the bun -- I guess that would still be okay? Sometimes I also enjoy stromboli (more lunchmeat). I use the crust as my bowl and just eat the insides out. Your opinions Alex on these items please?

You mentioned a Big Mac minus the bun in chat. Is this okay at this level? Did you scrape off the 'special sauce' or is that just an extra for that day?

I just had my bacon and eggs --- and they were Delish!:)

Stay away from the cream cheese!!! sheesh what is it with you folks and cream cheese.
Turkey, ham etc are fine, watch some of the other lunchmeats.
Actually rather than a Big mac without the bun get a double quarter pounder, way less stuff on it just a bit of ketchup to deal with. Better yet? A wendy's triple.
Why a chicken cheesesteak? eat a steak one :)
seriously the chicken is ok. The stromboli would depend on exactly what was inside it. If you don't KNOW don't eat it.

HI Alex! About your #2 strategy..."no eating after 7 p.m.". Please remember different things work for different people. My Dh has always been a night time snacker. Now with not eating after 7 he is losing. I think it's one of the main helps for him. I am grateful for anything thing that is helping his health improve.
Good luck to all of you taking the challenge. I admit I just don't have the will power or desire to follow such a limiting plan. :D

Once again -- this way is NOT for everyone and if you don't feel comfortable joining in -- then just be there to support those of us that have chosen to join. This is what worked for Alex (over 100 pounds worth!) and some of us are going to give it a temporary (and maybe permanent) try.

It's great when you find what works for you. I'm not sure how this will work for me -- but I'll let you know in a week or two.:D For those not joining in - I hope to see you in our cheering section with Hannosmom.
;)
