Okay...I have to ask if there's anyone else out there like me. I WILL NOT see "The Alamo". Why, I ask you, would I want to invest two hours in these characters (not to mention $8.00) to see them die in the end? I felt the same way about "Titanic", and refused to see it either.

Titanic plot: People get on a ship. Ship hits iceberg. Lots of people die.

Alamo plot: 200 people hole up in a fort. They get attacked by several thousand other people. They ALL die.

Don't get me wrong. I am all for promoting history. I would watch documentaries on either one of these historic events. I would also read non-fictional books about them. But I just do not think death is romantic! (Romeo and Juliet? Not tragedy, just bad planning skills!)

Why would you want to see it? Maybe to be reminded of the cost of freedom? Those people died for a reason. The Alamo made a HUGE difference in the outcome of the war. It gave Gen. Houston time to amass enough troops to defeat a dictator who had gone back on his word to the Texicans. Just my 2 cents.

I wan't born in Texas, but I've been here for 23 years and my kids are "native Texans..." I guess I've absorbed enough Texan to be interested. But I know how you feel. By the time I saw "Thelma and Louise" I knew the ending and didn't enjoy the movie, knowing how the story would end.

If you read my post, you will see that I understand this. I also said that I would (and have) read books on the subject, and watched several documentaries on the subject of the Alamo (and the Titanic). As a matter of fact, I watch documentaries all the time and history fascinates me. I am not undermining the cost of freedom or the reason these people died. I am just saying that death is not romantic. IMO, it is much more interesting (and beneficial) to read about the actual people and events, not the romanticized versions Hollywood produces.

Its not the desitination, its the journey.

I agree with ErikdaRed... It's a good movie which shows the characters in a much more accurate way than any of the other Alamo movies I've seen.
