~*~The After-Twilight Bookclub!!!~*~

I have been away from this thread too long!!!

So to answer about the Lords of the Underworld, here is the book order:
The Darkest Fire (prequel)
The Darkest night
the Darkest Kiss
The Darkest Pleasure
The Darkest Prison (3.5)
The Darkest Whisper
The Darkest Angel(4.5 This is Lysander & Bianca's story)
The Darkest Passion
The Darkest Lie
The Darkest Secret
The Darkest Surrender

As for the Richelle Mead Georgina Kincaid books, they are not YA!!! They are really great books and I highly recommend them. I also loved the Mortal Instruments series, and Richelle's series the Vampire Academy is fantastic.

There really is nothing like the Black Dagger Brotherhood books and if you haven't read them, you must!!!

I read the book Shiver and loved it, the 2nd book Linger will be out soon and I can't wait!

If anyone is interested in what I have read and what's on my to reads list, my name on goodreads.com is also desnik.

As for the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, I think I am going to give it a try. It has gotten so many great reviews so hopefully it lives up to it's hype. But, I have so many to read! I still haven't read The Hunger Games yet!!

:banana:The Darkest Angel! That's the one I've missed. Thanks!

i don't even know which ones i've read. i bought a kindle bundle from amazon so it was like one really long book. so, i must have read 4 or 5 of them and i think that included the prequel.

I am on the third Mortal Instruments book. I am really enjoying them! Can't wait to find out what happens in the end!!! Surely they aren't really brother and sister....or are they? I wish there was more than three...

It turns out there are! The author's next book is (in Star Wars style) the first in a trilogy of prequels to The Mortal Instrument series. The next series is called The Infernal Devices and the first one comes out Aug 31st 2010. Right after that there's a jump forward again and the fourth book in the Mortal Instruments series will be released in Spring of 2011.

So we've had books 4, 5, 6. Next is book 1 then book 7. That's how I read it anyway. Correct me if I"m wrong... it's a tough time line ;)

I had some issues with the series (mostly characters acting out of character and making odd choices/decisions or being brilliant one minute and then so stupid the next that they don't catch something very obvious the next) but that didn't stop me from gobbling up the books. The action is well paced and the "lingo" feels organic. I like the writing style.

Can't wait!

me too actually, i really enjoyed the last VA book. i'm a little mad with all the cliffhanger endings but the books are good enough that i don't walk away.

I learned this after I finished the third book late last week. I see what you are saying about the inconsistent personalities thing. But I like the House of Night books too and Lord knows those aren't the most well written books. I am looking forward to the coming prequel and 7th book.

I just picked up The Passage by Justin Cronin yesterday at the library. I haven't started it yet, but I have heard awesome things about it.

Cool... I'll have to look out for it. I've been in a reading slump. I'm still trying to read BDB (book 1) and I read a book in the wings .... working through some Tamora Pierce (my DH13's favorite) as well.

I am rereading The Lioness series by Tamora Pierce. Like DD she is my favorite.

Yes, I have read Shiver and it is a fantastic book! I really loved it. The 2nd book, Linger came out recently. I read that and love it as well.

i enjoyed Shiver. I'll probably read Linger as well. There was a lot of 'twilightyness' to it but it was an easy fun read.

Mortal Instrument Question:
Since I haven't read the series yet, should I start with City of Bones, or begin with the prequel The Clockwork Angel that comes out this month. Glad you guys said it was a non-linear series!

Read the first 4 books of the Fever Series by Karen Moning. Really enjoyed. What a cliffhanger in book 4! I'm in another series slump, since there is no more to read in the Fever series, I don't know what to start next!

Water for Elephants was a great book. Loved it!!

I'd start with City of Bones first.
for me i'd want to know the characters and how they are portrayed now. Then i'd read Clockwork Angel so i can learn more about them and what happened in their past to get where they are now. hope that helps :]

I'm waiting for ...
  • The Last Sacrafice by Richelle Mead
  • MockingJay by Suzzane Collins
  • Awakended by PC & Kristin Cast

I would start with City of Bones. I have to say that was such a great series and I can't wait for the prequel!

I am about to start Guardian at the Gate. It's the 2nd book to the Prophecy of the Sisters book. I really enjoyed the first one, so hopefully this next one is good too!

I am curious to hear how you like Guardian at the Gate. I finished the Prophecy of the Sisters last weekend and although I enjoyed the book I felt kind of let down. I kept waiting for that big scare, and it never really materialized for me.

so what books have you read that did have the big scare.. or at least some scare (without gore). I loved the Gemma Doyle trilogy: A Great and Terrible Beauty.. no "big scare" but goosebumps all the way through

I used to read John Saul for the big scare. Brian Keene delivers a really good scare, he writes zombie books that even scare my DH. That says a lot. Dean Koontz has scared me a time or three too. Some of his books can keep me up at night. Tami Hoag has scared me to the point that every noise I heard scared me half to death. We were camping and every little sound scared me. It was great fun.

I just finished Guardian at the Gate. I have mixed feelings. I know I will read the next book when it comes out just because I am curious to see how this will end. As I was reading it I kind of felt bored. I feel it was dragging on. Lia, the main character made stupid mistakes and was just so naive. She actually got on my nerves. I liked the first book in this series better. This book did have some charters I liked, like Edmund, Dimitri and one of her BFF's(whose name I can't remember). I do like the setting of this series and how the characters speak and the writting is good IMHO. There really is no big scare in this book either. If you like the type of book that has that scare factor, have you tried The Strain by Guilermo Del Torro? I actually had nightmares from that book! It was great!
