The Adventurosity Club

Hey everybody! This is a great idea...thank you Suz for thinking of it!

KigerKat--I love you getting to be Mary Poppins for a day, that would be so fantastic! That's my favorite Disney movie and I read awhile back that the Broadway show is going to start touring! I would so love to see it!!!

And welcome back DISgeeks! Was starting to wonder where you were! :goodvibes

It's my favorite live-action Disney movie, too! A close second is Bedknobs and Broomsticks. I don't think that was one of the more popular ones (DH had never heard of it until I was excited about it being on TV a couple of months ago). I used to try to make my bed fly when I went to sleep, but I didn't have the magical knob to make it work! :wizard:

Yes, I like that one too...funny though, I never saw it as a kid either, only recently. But I thought it was really good! I bet there were a lot of little kids like you, all at night trying to get their beds to fly...too funny! If only...

You can throw them out at me or PM...whichever is easiest! (If that's what you meant by preferred format)

Thanks everyone for thinking that it's a good idea. I'm often timid about throwing ideas around. You make me feel great! I didn't have a specific format, I was thinking that we'd do one question at a time which would give everyone time to respond with "that reminds me of the time..." etc. If we have a list of topics to draw from then the person in charge wouldn't have the burden of thinking of the topics. I was thinking that would sustain our thread through the leaner/busier times. People would feel more likely to contribute if they had a specific question that that were answering rather than brainstorming for something to say.

The other option is to just address the topics all together and have a fun free for all!

Off to pack, pack, pack!

KK I just saw Bedknobs on DVD at Sam's and almost got it! Favorite Disney movie and why would be another topic. We can keep it Disney or not. But since it is a Disney board it might be good.

I'll go to their show with you! Maybe a variety show will need to be a part of our grand gathering!

Ok, I'd love to go with you too! And are you thinking what I think you're thinking??? A real live variety show...not a virtual one??? I have a feeling that would be a hilarious adventure in its own right! :scared1: And SO much fun!

1. Sharing our favorite Disney dream (realistic one AND not so realistic):
Our favorite realistic Disney dream is truly being immersed in the magic. In every trip we've taken (and even including our most recent "A Series Of Unfortunate Events") we're exhausted, but somehow we're energized. We're grumpy, but somehow we're patient. We're heavy with all our gear, yet somehow we're weightless. If we're disappointed in something, just around the next turn is a bit of magic that we never expected. Being there with our kids as one big family is really a dream come true every time! Just to see their faces and that complete responsiblilty-less feeling of truly being in another "world" is incredible.

An unrealistic Disney Dream is that we spend money like we have plenty of it....and the truth is we spend the entire next year trying to pay off out trip. So, if we could have both a realistic and unrealistic dream come true it would be to have a free DVC membership so we could continue to create memories every year and not have to be torn between what is best for our family and what is best for our lives.

I don't know that I completely understood that question or that I answered it right....but it will do. Good thing I'm not competing for Miss America or anything...such as ....the Iraq......?

2. Sharing our favorite Disney experience or memory:

Ah, way too many of them! I'll give one from each trip:
Trip #1 September of 2000 was our family's first trip (only two kids at that point) We stayed 2 nights at the Grand Floridian and 5 at All Star Movies. Obviously it was just the moment we all entered the park for the first time and stood in awe of the view of Main Street and the castle. It still makes me cry.

Trip #2 January 2002 (pregnant with third child) We stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort and everytime we walked the rather long walk to the pool we had to go under a little bridge. Each we went under it we said, "You have to get a little orig-in-ale" but in a Jamaican accent. I have no idea WHY we did that, but it was another Fleagle Family oddity? I still remember how it echoed in the tunnel! Just something that made us smile and a way we made our own magic.

Trip #3 January 2004 (three kids ages 18 mths 6 & 7) We stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and our memory has to be just the grandeur of that resort, the Savanna view, and Elizabeth was called "Action Baby Ready To Go". She's wake up and go straight for the doorknob and try to open it. So we gave her that name. Plus Eric made up a silly game with the kids in the Polynesian pool and every night they couldn't wait to go play it.

Trip #4 January 2005 (three kids) We stayed at Port Orleans and our memory of that trip is when we met our Cast Member Friend named Bill. Still friends with him today!

Trip #5 December 2006 (four kids) We stayed at the Polynesian! OUR FAVORITE! We loved this resort and it made it feel like a double vacation....Disney World during the day and Hawaii at night! Loved EVERYTHING about this trip. But I guess my favorite was seeing Disney World through the little ones eyes again. Just like our first trip, except this time we knew so much about what to do and where to go. Ohana was my personal favorite!

Trip #6 January 2008 (four kids) We stayed at the Contemporary. Our LEAST favorite resort..in fact I don't really consider it a resort, it's so inferior to the others....just my opinion. Anyway, this was a fantastic set of ages to go.... DS turned 13 during the trip, DD 11, DD 5, DS 2 Other than our series of unfortunate events we had a great time as a family. Seeing Dawson with a constant glow was awesome and Elizabeth was still filled with amazement and wonder. The big kids got to do some on their own and enjoyed their bit of independence and we were happy to get one warm sunny day and a few "Parties In The Car".

As I look back over my memories it seems it has more to do with where we stayed and the fun we made as a family. Maybe that's all a part of the Disney magic too. It bring the family together and gives them permission to be goofy!

3. Sharing our favorite Disney hidden gem:
Unfortunately this isn't there anymore, but we loved to go to Polly's Dockside Inn and have lunch. A small "brown bagged" eatery was completely tucked away with outside chairs, seagulls, and a fantastic view of the Haunted Mansion and the steam boat. It was our own secret hideaway! I miss it.

4. Sharing our favorite Disney restaurant:
Mama Melrose's at Hollywood Studios. We just came across this one this past trip! Really awesome! Yummy Italian!

5. Sharing our favorite Disney money saving tip:

Yeah, um, well we're Kidwells and we don't really know about "saving" money on a Disney Trip. :confused3

Nope, you understood it completely. A free DVC membership and spending $$ like you have limitless amounts of it are both pretty unrealistic for most of us. But they are a great dream.

1. Sharing our favorite Disney dream (realistic one AND not so realistic):

Realistic dream would be to one today fill my desire to work at the Haunted Mansion. It seems simplistic... but to be a CM means so much more to me then just merely working an attraction. It is providing magic, making dreams come true, putting a smile on the face of a guest.... man, I want to be part of that.

Unrealistic dream would be to convince DH to sell the condo in Orlando and buy DVC, so we can stay IN the magic when we go. But I think that will never fly.... DH likes his space.

2. Sharing our favorite Disney experience or memory:

Hmmm... favorite Disney memory...... I have three actually.

1) Going to Disney for the first time with DH in 2000, we had just started dating at the time. We were watching Illuminations together at Epcot and I was breathless at the beauty of the show. Just towards the end when the song about "We go on...." started, DH came up behind, put his arms around me and just held me. I lost it, started crying right there, I was overwhelmed with emotions.

2) Seeing "Wishes" for the very first time (man does Disney know how to do fireworks or what!). I remember standing there with such anticipation waiting for the show to start..... I felt like a little kid again! The show started and just like Illuminations I was breathless. It got to the part where Ariel says "Oh, I wish I could be part of that world".... and you guessed it.... I lost it, tears streaming down my face, because I to wanted to be "part of that world" so badly.

3) Having our families together for an enormous Grand Gathering after our wedding last June. There were 24 of us that invaded O'hana that night... we drank, ate, laughed, and ate some more. After we all walked out to the beach and watched "Wishes" from across the lagoon. What a great night that was, to have our family and close friends there celebrating our wedding and having an amazing time in the "Happiest Place on Earth".

3. Sharing our favorite Disney hidden gem:

Hidden gem... that would probably be "The Writers Stop" at the Studios. It is primarily a gift shop, but they have a small cafe area where you can get bakery items and such. I like to get a brownie and an iced coffee and sit right near the front window... there are three stools there and they face the main intersection by Star Tours and the Streets of America, it is fun to sit and people watch.

4. Sharing our favorite Disney restaurant: Crystal Palace for breakfast.... the Backlot Express for lunch..... O'hana for dinner.

5. Sharing our favorite Disney money saving tip: Ummm..... I don't really have one.

LOVE the idea Suz D!!! I think this is a great way to learn more about each other and share the wonderful experiences we've had! I will definitely share mine as well (I don't know if I can tackle all 5 questions at once, but I'll do what I can)

I also wanted to leave a big THANK YOU for Marshay . . . I just received a wonderful postcard from the UK pavilion at Epcot. Thanks!!!

On a slightly side note . . . I don't recall how much I've shared about my upcoming CMO trip, but I leave on Tuesday for WDW for my first official visit. I'll have four very LONG days (up and out the door around 5:00 a.m. and returning around 9:00 or 10:00 p.m. a couple of days!) but I can't wait to get back down there to be a part of it all. I know that I'll be attending the press event for Toy Story Mania! as well as participating in some magic moments - possibly at each of the four parks. I'll definitely tell you all about it when I get back! (I still don't have a laptop, so I probably won't be online much next week!)

I know this is out of order, but I'll start with question #3 for now . . .

3) Sharing our favorite Disney hidden gem
There are SO many. That's part of what makes a trip to a Disney park so much fun for me - there is always something new to explore or discover. Two of my favorites come from World Showcase at Epcot. They might not be hidden, but they never seem to be as crowded as other spots when I'm there.

First is in Morocco. Well, technically I feel like ALL of the Morocco pavilion is a hidden gem. The restaurant almost always has tables avaiable long after the others are booked up, and the architecture and winding walkways really make you feel like you left Florida far behind. The particular gem - for me anyway - is on your left when you enter the main area of the pavilion. There is a door in the wall and if you go in there is a very tiny museum with Moroccan artifacts. It's small and probably very boring for kids, but it is always dark and cool in there, I love the historical artifacts, and it is one of those spots that really sets Epcot apart. Next time you are there, take some time to wander throughout Morocco, it really is a beautiful stop along World Showcase!

A second - and likely more well known one - is the patisserie in the back of the French pavilion. If you make it all the way to the back, there is a great bakery with wonderful sweet treats as well as great sandwiches, croissants, and light, casual eating options. Probably my favorite "quick" stop for food in Epcot.

:)

OH, I agree! In my perfect world, money would never affect dreams! Limitless amounts and free DVC for everyone--what a perfect world!

I sure hope you get to do that someday HMF cause you would be so perfect at it! And how cool if we all got to ride while you were there! Sounds like you've really had some great times too, which would probably make you an even more outstanding CM, creating magic for guests!

Very exciting Justin, thank you for sharing! I can't wait to hear about the magical moments you get to be a part of! And thanks for the tips on Epcot too!

1. Sharing our favorite Disney dream (realistic one AND not so realistic):

So many Disney dreams...right now though, the one that has taken over my thoughts is to actually work there. I've been watching the job sites for awhile, and am finally working on resumes and preparing things here to move to CA! It's so exciting to think about. It once seemed so unrealistic, but now, it's that something I just have to do!!!

And of course there's always the other fun dreams of being able to experience the magic of the parks much more often, and also to take people and/or pay for people to get to go! I would so love to be able to do that, and to be a part of the Dream Squad and really give away some amazing dreams! I think it would be fun too, like KigerKat, to be a face character for a day, or ever so often. Since I'd have to be a girl, I might choose Alice since it would be fun to hang out with the Mad Hatter making people laugh!

I think you are right...part of the Disney Magic is definitely what you make of it and you guys have had so many great trips and great memories!!! Was that your first time to see Main Street and the castle Amy or did you ever get to go as a kid?

I went once as a child when I was about eight. But what I remember from that trip is far different from what I've taken away from these trips with my family. As a child it was "cartoon-like" memories, but as a mom it is so sentimental and emotional. Very, very different.

Hi everyone!!! Sorry I have been missing in action.......the weight loss program opened for the Doctor's office staff - the metabolic testing portion - yesterday and today.

Went very smoothly. Found out today that I will be able to hold weekly meetings at the same office. I will start out with one meeting a week and go from there based on demand.

I have been spending all of my time either there or getting brochures and procedures and insurance ready and all.

Hopefully, I will be able to start scheduling some real (read: paying) clients late next week. So I will be in and out of here, but know I am thinking about you all.

Today we had a church meeting at our house and someone mentioned Disney....really almost inaudibly.....and I was soooooo excited I about jumped across the room to talk about it.

I want to meet everyone here --- and over a kitchen sink ---- at Disney!
