Baby Bird Update:

Mommy has not returned, but I cannot tell you how many birds have perched themselves near our house. Almost like a funeral.....or the swat team!

Baby has turned over...this morning it was on it's back and moving....but almost like it was stuck OR injured and couldn't move. Now it's upright again....good sign I hope?

I've called the SPCA, Animal Control, our vet, and the park which has a bird rehabilitation program. They said to wait a day to see if mommy comes back. So I'm keeping an eye on it. It's still in the nest and I think I may have to go hunt for a worm.....ewww

Sad morning.....

We walked the older to kids to the front door this morning to say goodbye for school and a metal framed topiary tree that we have on either side of our front door was laying on the ground. The metal frame looked like to two globes and a mama bird had made her nest and hatched her little babies in the safety of that globe. Such a clever place for her nest. Well, we've been watching the process ever since she started building the nest and eggs hatched about a week or so ago. The kids love seeing the birdies from the window.

Obviously I was so upset and confused as to how the topiary could have fallen down, way too heavy for a bird to do it. Eric says it must have a been a cat or maybe an owl. Well, the nest is empty except one bird...don't know what to do and can only hope that mama is ok and will come back? Anyway, our little lesson in nature sure took a sad turn. Wasn't prepared to teach the little guys about THAT part of the circle of life.

Tears for the sad day...I am always so undone by things like this too. I can hardly watch nature programs on TV.

Good morning everyone! No school here today because of the primary. Katie is having a couple of friends over for a "fairy" day. We're doing fairy crafts and having a yummy sante fe chicken (now there's some hearty "fairy" food for you). I was going to make some little tea cakes and tiny sandwiches for fairy food, but I'm a single parent AGAIN this week so crockpot food was more my speed.

I thought I'd post the recipe in case anyone wants it.

Ingredients
3 boneless skinless chicken breasts (I throw them in completely frozen)
1/2-1 package taco seasoning (I buy this in bulk so I just sprinkle some on)
1 can corn (drained)
1 can black beans (rinsed and drained)
1+ cup salsa
1 8oz. brick cream cheese

Throw the chicken in the crock pot along with the beans, corn, taco seasoning and salsa. Cook on high until the chicken is done (it's about 3-4 hours when I put it in from a frozen state so judge accordingly). When it's done take the chicken out and shred it. Cut the cream cheese into squares and throw in the crockpot (the first time I made it I had about a 1.5 inch block of velveeta left so I threw that in also and make it that way all the time now). Cook on low one more hour (I usually add a little more salsa at this point). Stir it all up and enjoy.

Here are some ways we enjoy it:
On tortilla chips
Rolled up in tortillas with sour cream and salsa on top.
I make a packet of spanish rice and put the chicken mixture and spanish rice in tortillas and cover with enchilada sauce. Sprinkle lightly with cheese and bake until heated through.

It's really yummy!

Justin, I don't mean to bombard ya with questions, but where did y'all stay during the CMO contests? Just curious. I'm surprised you don't know any details yet of this next trip...Maybe they don't know yet either.

After all, it's all new to Disney, too. So exciting though!!!!

Ha ha! It is new to us all. I do believe that some of the details will unfold as things go along because we're all still figuring out exactly how far we can take this thing. Just what all can I get myself into, you know?

The trip is confirmed for the 13th - 16th, but specifics about which parks on which days, or exactly which functions are still up in the air. Last trip we stayed at the Yacht Club Resort and this time I think I'll be staying at the Wilderness Lodge (I'm really excited about that as that's one of the few resorts I've never even set foot in!)

Awww man.... looks like I'm just going to miss you little brother. But I believe that Marshay will still be down there... can anyone confirm that? I thought she said she would be down there until the 14th. So are those dates for the Grand Opening or for the Passholder preview?

Thanks Bro! I miss you guys too. Life is just a little crazy at the moment. Not the CMO stuff - - - it's all wonderful. Just the "real" job and all the other aspects of life that are teetering on the edge!

I believe they are still in previews at that point. I can't confirm any dates (because I'm honestly not sure of them!) but my role is primarily associated with the press events. I think the official grand opening may be the next week.

Your first trip is next week!! That's so exciting Justin!! Do you get to take your family?

Nope. This one is just me. I'm looking forward to some very full, long days of working while I'm there, so it will actually be nice to get this first trip under my belt without worrying about coordinating schedules with any family members. Once I know how the trips flow and what all is expected of me, I'll figure out how often I can take someone along. Plus, most of my family can't get any more time off of work already!
