You don't make it easy to get caught up with after a week or so do you?

I promise to have much more interesting things to say once I get caught up. :)

Yay! :woohoo: :woohoo: I usually suck at these but I hit on the right hint. :goodvibes
I've tried sewing and can usually get a button to stay on for a day or two but anything more than that and it doesn't look pretty. :scared1: I am very good however at drywall and construction, roofing and plumbing. The drywall and construction because I'm so cheap that when we decided to turn our two bedroom, single bath house into a five bedroom, two bath I refused to pay a contractor, then found out that DH was claustrophobic and had to do the plumbing. Oh and he's afraid of heights so I had to learn to roof. :rotfl: But that's ok because the money I saved sent me to Disney. :woohoo:

Yep, you nailed it!! Great job!!

My hubby and I finished our basement all alone too. Except for laying the carpet, it was all our own handiwork!! Boy, did it feel good to have it done, and say "job well done" to ourselves. :cool1: It saved us, we imagine around $7,ooo or $8,ooo.

OMG your train ride,. your family, what an utter, total nightmare! I can't even imagine.

I am so so sorry about that weekend but it's just not possible for a ton of reasons.
:(

No need to explain AT. ALL! Family ALWAYS comes first, so I completely understand. We'll shoot for spring for something bigger since so many can't make it, and in the meantime maybe Camille, Tammie and Cherie and I can cook something up.

Oh, Liesa...how awful for all of you. For so many to get sick on this leg of your trip. I'm sure there are times you wanted to pull your hair out. Luckily, you wer ewell to take are of all of them. And you still were able to take pics--you truly amaze me.

Yes, there certainly were. There were however no tears; it was what it was, and frankly there was nothing we could do but move forward. I kept thinking to myself, "if we could just make it to the hotel, we'll be fine.", but it sure was a long road there!

OMG. I think it's safe to say we can dub this portion of your trip pukefest. Not fun.

No, the "fun" was gone long before this. Traveling cross-Atlantic isn't fun to begin wtih in the first place- add this and it could easily fall into the hell on earth category.

WOW! Hopefully it's a quickly moving bug and they get over it fast.

Mostly, but you'll have to wait for the next couple of installments to find out just how fast!! I promise, some really cook German stuff is now coming up.

Oh no, I can not imagine how awful that was for everyone. It is never good being sick but having to be on the move just makes it worse. I hope things got better soon.

Thanks, Tracy!! It was awful, but not so bad that we couldnt' redeem parts of the vacation.

I don't really know what to say about the sick travelers .....except I guess one big ughhhhhh:headache: although as tarzanskat mentioned pukefest....that is quite appropriate  So sorry and hope it doesn't continue much longer.
Excited for your meet with Magdalane and her sister :goodvibes

Tracy

Our Meet is actually in a few more installments- we had a bit of sightseeing before we met her. And it comes with some great pix!

Oh my...so sorry to hear about your pukefest on the train. That happened to Nicholas once while we were flying home from Orlando late at night. Of course, he has the window seat and every time he had to get up he had to climb over a 6'5" basketball player. And one of the bathrooms was inoperable. It was not fun! I hope things improve soon!

It's awful, isn't it?? But having the window seat would be far, far worse!!! I'm not sure I wouldn't have just locked myself in the bathroom with him and hung out in there.

We have talked...but I just wanted to post too...

Unfortunately there are NO flights for Southwest going to Portland for that date at all? Not sure if they are just already booked? Or what?

The cheapest flights is over $500. :(

Could we possibly shoot for the Spring???

I know, what a craptastic situation!!! I really want to hang out with you!!!!

Yes, we'll shoot for the spring, or after the holidays, and see what that brings.

Oh no! Kids puking every 10 minutes?? I'd say you were holding it together remarkably well in a strange country, stressful train catching situation and sick babies on top of it that you managed to get a picture of the pastries! You are the epitome of Disboard Grace Under Pressure! Seriously, though - things must start picking up soon - this has to be the most insanely stressful start to a vacation ever!

We never resorted to running to our platform, and I was afraid of that!! You were all on my mind the entire trip for sure!!! From teh time I walked out the door in Kaz. I was thinking of this TR!! :lmao:

Stressful? Yes.

Oh my, what a terrible trip! One person puking is bad enough, but three (or was it four)???

Thinking of happier things -- an English Country Dancing Ball sounds like the COOLEST THING EVER!!!!!!!:dance3:

It does get better- at least for me!! ;)

I can't wait to go and get pictures of me pretending to be Elizabeth Bennett. I hope learning the dances isn't too hard!!

Oh, I am so sorry about the pukefest!! :guilty: That is no fun at home, let alone while traveling...

Unfortunately, that weekend is no good for us to come up to Portland... I am taking care of my friend's little boys while she is out of the state... :sad1:

I know it!!! And thank God this sort of thing really only hit us a few times in Kaz.

OK, another one for "it won't work". We'll get there- back to the drawing board.

 Your experience getting out of Crap-a-stan has been.....well, completely crazy! Your poor family.

It looks like we may have to plan our meet for another time Liesa. :guilty: We should talk. :)

Yes, please do call me; sorry I missed your call the other day, we had company that I couldn't duck out of.

It was crazy awful, but do-able. :goodvibes

Hi Liesa, I am still feeling sorry for Michaela and Zach! I hope all of you will have a chance one day to revisit Germany to bring back happier memories!

AT some point they DO get better- but is it in time to see ANYTHING of Bavaria?? Well, YOU already know the answer, but, you'll have to endure the re-telling anyway. Then, it's onto other stuff.

I would have never guessed Riverside. The "last resort" clue was absolutely unvisible to me. Of course I could claim it to the fact that English is my second language, so it is much more difficult to pick up on things like that! ;) I was researching wether there was any attraction at WDW linked to Freud - and then I came up with the idea that the clue might me "DARE" and came up with the Tower of Terror, but could not find any sign there either...

It was obscure- even to the EFL speakers. My intent was to keep adding letters until you get them- so don't fret- at some point you'll see one, and JUST KNOW.

So when will we get the "E" for guessing???

Hmmm....working on that soon....

I wouldn't wish what you guys went through on my worst enemy. What a horrible experience, although it makes for some interesting TR reading.

Once again those pastries look so guuuuud! (as you would put it!)

Good idea using 'those' type of bags.... I feel so bad for the kids. (well I guess I should of felt bad, since this did all go down- or was it all go out?- over a 1 1/2 months ago)

Great pics from the train! :goodvibes

Almost as good as nose picking and flossing on the plane. ;)

Guuuuuuuuuuuud and gooey. Yum!! But believe it or not, one is coming up that I really DIDN'T care for. :confused3

Yes, it's all a getting-more-distant-memory now. Fresh enough that it still isn't funny, but enough that she calls it another "travel merit badge". :lmao:

Thanks!! If you like European scenery, JUST YOU WAIT!!! They get a lot better!

Morning Liesa !!! I am not even gonna attempt E as I couldn't figure out the others

Don't worry, by the time the next one comes out, you'll be riding Dumbo.

Oh my, what a ride. I'm sure family loved having a DIS documentarian along too. Glad you found the train at least, I know you were a little worried about that.

Probably not, but, someday she'll look at those rotten pictures of herself and "remember when". I'm a scrapbooker too, so these photos will be archived for far longer than on the DIS. :goodvibes

Finding the train was a a bit of a pain (no rhyme intended). The long-distance trains were a LOT farther away that we thought they'd be, and the signage was not so clear. The Frankfurt Airport if forever undergoing construction, and I think that was part of the problem. But, 10 minutes to spare was enough breathing room for me, and it actually could have even been more had we really hurried. But of course, under the circumstances didn't dare to.

Oh there's nothing worse than being sick and having to travel.

It was terrible, but really it does get somewhat better now- a more "comfy" place to puke was getting nearer.

I'm a new "dis-er" but a fellow Northwestern-er! :) I'd love to meet up! It be great to meet the people behind the stories! :)

Hi Sara!!! A very, very, VERY big :welcome: to you!!!! YES!!! You would be MORE than welcome to join us when we all get together!!! At this point it's up in the air as to exactly when that will be... so meantime, pull up a comfy chair, grab a coke or coffee that you can then spew onto your keyboard- that tends to happen a lot around here. ;)

Ok. Pukefest just sounds awful, and I feel terrible for you guys having to endure this experience. That being said...

:lmao::rotfl2:

I'm just picturing this as a TV show double-feature with Thomas the Tank Engine.

:lmao::lmao::lmao: Yes, a perfect pairing, I'd say!! :rotfl2:

Better to laugh at this kind of stuff than to get all angry about it I think.

You don't make it easy to get caught up with after a week or so do you?

I promise to have much more interesting things to say once I get caught up.

Nope. No rest for the readers. :lmao:

Ok, I'll wait for you to get caught up then. ;)

Hi Liesa,

I am really enjoying your saga, thanks. I have a favor to ask though, could you please keep up the links to new chapters in the front? Just makes it hard to find now posts with all the chatter in between.

Thanks,
Marita

Sigh...bummer I can't guess! LOL!

After the holidays is probably a lot better for me than Spring....but with enough notice I can plan around things. Maybe if we can have a few weekends to work with it might work better?

But hey, if anyone is in town for black friday shopping in Seattle I'll be around that weekend and pretty free! I know it's bad for most though...

Oh gosh!! Marita!! I'm so sorry!! The last couple of posts have been rush jobs to get up, and I completely spaced that!! You betcha, I can certainly do that- and will work on it right now. (I'm an "Ask, and you shall receive" kind of gal. :thumbsup2) And with that.... :welcome: ! I do hope you'll post more often; we'd all love to get to know you better. I have seen you on MANY Of the same TRs I follow. :goodvibes

We just made the family decision that we'll be on Mt. Hood (Welches to be exact) for Thanksgiving at Mike's aunt's condo. I imagine we'll spend at least Wednesday- Friday, so I don't think Seattle will work that weekend for me.

I'll look at our long-range planner, and see if we can come up with a few more options for our Palooza.

Thanks so much, Liesa, I would love to get to know the group here better too. Some changes at work give me a lot more time for that.

Thanks for the welcome!

uhhh.....nope :confused3 I can guess what it's "not"....just looking at the font and thinking of theming there are a few places I could think that it would look out of place.....but there are still tons of place left that it would fit. Will have to think on this one ahile

I just noticed we're VERY close to our posting counts. I'll go back and look at when you joined. Nice to hear you have some extra hang out time! I have FAR LESS than I used to, but as we get more and more settled things should even out, and get better for me too.

Hi I'm Rosie the Pole Dancing Granny of the Group!!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:You don't have to be crazy to hang out here but it helps !!!!;):lmao:

We do enjoy our own special brand of "nuts". :dance3:

Keep thinking, my dear. You've had good luck/skills before. :thumbsup2

Ok, I think it really is easier this time, even though I did not recognize it, thanks to the help of Allears.net and Google picture search, I am ready to guess:

Ghirardelli Soda Fountain - your picture is a bit tricky, because it is from a slight sideways angle, so it looks like the letters are italic, but they aren't.

I am really looking forward to reading about your time in Nuremberg! While you were sitting on that train, I actually posted on your PTR a picture of the castle in Würzburg which you might have seen from the train. I see that you got pictures of the vineyards along the river Main. :thumbsup2

This is a tough one. Looks like Magdalene may have got it. :goodvibes Doesn't surprise me though, she's one smart cookie! :thumbsup2

Uuuugh! Just caught up with your trip report! Soooo sorry about the RRD!:sad2:  :sad2:  :sad2: Hmmm - yes I do relate - kudos to your kids for their strength and bravery in all kinds of situations. Hope all are well in your family now!

It is amazing how thankful for plastic bags one can be - once on a trip through Egypt my friend's mother - bless her - probably 70ish had - bless her - stuffed a good amount of plastic bags in her purse. Well when the aircon on the 10 hour bus ride to Cairo stopped working - ahem - in the Sinai - ahem - poor people at the back began to suffer the consequences - bless her - she passed back every bag to the barfing travelers - helped an untold number of Egyptians and ourselves as we fell one by one to the domino vomit affect:rolleyes1.

So you're saying you have a nice collection- each for a different purpose?
No, I always get the ones that can be used for multiple purposes.......:rolleyes1
Me too I am clueless !! And Marv hadn't better make any smart comments :rotfl2::rotfl2:
And we would know this HOW??? :lmao: (Sorry, I didn't want to be remiss in my duties, and I KNEW you really wanted to hear me say it anyway!)
WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!!

Congratulations- you are the winner of a big, fat "WAY TO GO!!" and possible the grand prize to be determined a while from now. Ask the others, I almost always come through with a whip, a hat or some other very useless thing. :lmao:

Which makes me also realize, I really need to go back and recall who come through first with A-C.

I haven't seen Marv; I think he's as busy as several of us have also gotten.

Okay, I guess I missed the "D" round being gone over the weekend, and since someone went and posted the answer and spoiled any shot I had of doing some late research!!! :sad2: I guess I will just have to give "E" a shot and hope for the best......
WOW! Hopefully it's a quickly moving bug and they get over it fast.
Sounds like it was....in more ways than one! :rotfl:
Ok. Pukefest just sounds awful, and I feel terrible for you guys having to endure this experience. That being said...

Now that's just funny! :rotfl2:
Hi I'm Rosie the Pole Dancing Granny of the Group!!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:You don't have to be crazy to hang out here but it helps !!!!;):lmao:
You talkin' about me Rosie??? :confused3

I'm so sorry to hear about the Ralphing Railroad! But...I did laugh out loud at that name. :lmao: Every 10 minutes 2 children would be loosing their cookies??? UGH. How stressful. :sad2:

NO idea on the letter. I'm guessing your mixed case sentence was a clue - but I just cannot think of any sign at WDW like that....??? Maybe after my second cup of coffee I'll be back. ;) MeMom did a similar game and I rocked it! This one I stink at!

And we would know this HOW??? :lmao: (Sorry, I didn't want to be remiss in my duties, and I KNEW you really wanted to hear me say it anyway!)
:
You talkin' about me Rosie??? :confused3

I have to give you the opportunity you don't have to run with it:rotfl2:

As for CRAZY yes that would include you, me and a few others :confused3:rolleyes1:rotfl2:

I think I figured out the letter!

Is it: Ghiradelli's ?

Good research!! I didn't even have to add a letter to help you out!! :thumbsup2

I will be writing a new chapter sometime today (after a whole bunch of housecleaning (ugh!)).

I was totally enamored with those vineyards!! They were so pretty amongst the little hamlets and villages- just adorable!!! I didn't even notice a castle - well, at least I don't think I saw it, perhaps I was buying my SECOND coffee?? :lmao: Or in the bathroom, grabbing more bags? or playing cards with my kids?? (Zach didn't get sick until about 1/2 hour into the trip. )

This is a tough one. Looks like Magdalene may have got it. :goodvibes Doesn't surprise me though, she's one smart cookie! :thumbsup2

She is, she is!! I will wait for a few others to come in,and reveal the answer tonight.

I knew of all my readers, you'd relate best!!!:goodvibes You as well have "been there, done that". My kids are very adaptable to most anything, in fact, I just got home from putting Zach into yet another school. Long story that I won't bore you with, but just another example of how flexible they are. He wasn't worried or afraid whatsoever, but was rather looking forward to more friends. :confused3 Truly a gift of his.
