Just checking in Liessa !!Between a sudden attack of the dreaded curse that hit your family enroute to Nuremburg !!I am finally almost better !! At least compared to what I was !!I had to work a long day to catch up on essentials like the consumers weekly spending money !!Failure to do that would cause MUTINY!!!Add to that the 3 thousand requests for everything they don't need Like Yarn from the one who has a closet full of it or a Doll from the one whose room will self distruct if another item is place in there !!! The list of crap they don't need is endless !! But they love CRAP!!! Dollar Stores see $$$$ when my guys walk in

Tomorrow is my LONG Day so wont be around til late evening !!!!Saturday I could be totally off but my PILES are calling me !!!Marv go for it !!!!!

I went to Winco and let each kid pick out 5 candies from the bulk bins, and bought a boatload of graham crackers (yes, the lazy way out this year). I'll mix up the royal icing, and let them have at it- I hope to use the 3 or 4 houses as a centerpiece on the holiday table surrounded by hand cut fir and cedar.

We're doing those this weekend! I went to the best Christmas party a few years ago. A friend of mine's mother in-law hosted it. She made up ahead of time a graham cracker gingerbread house for each guest. She uses hot glue to construct them and affix them to those cardboard cake circles. All the guests bring a bag of candy to share and the host makes up big batches of royal icing that she puts in ziploc bags for us to use like piping bags. We had a blast! A roomful of adults throwing candy at each other and having a great time competing to see who could decorate the fanciest house.

Love the camper! Scott and I have been talking about getting a pop-up for years. We love camping - but we are totally ready to get off the ground and out of the tent, although I don't want to lose the feeling of sleeping outdoors. We figured a tent camper would be perfect. One of these days...

How awesome that all those ROTC guys (and gals) were there to meet and greet Andrew and help with his stuff! I'm sure that made him feel welcome. Has he taken a liking to any of those girls? Oh wait, he had a girlfriend back 'on the continent' - did that romance survive the big move?

Boy, this brings back memories. I keep thinking college wasn't that long ago, and then I look at the calendar...







That's exactly what my mom complained about! She said the house was way too quiet. She kept begging me to have friends over when I came home so that she could get some noise and chaos back in the house.

That was what bothered me, too when the boys moved out. I was used to having a house full of teen-age boys around, and all the wrestling matches and running in and out and pranks and dog barking - and suddenly, total silence. Now I kind of enjoy it!

Liesa, just stopping by - so cool that Andrew got a full ride, and was welcomed so well by his ROTC bros. I'm sorry he is dealing with roommate issues. Just so inconsiderate. What if he wants to study? I'm glad he is doing so well.

Okay, off to look for those fairies - I have to get up early and come up with a children's craft I volunteered to do for family night downtown tomorrow night. Good Night.

Yes! My parents had been to Nuremberg - Magdalene, if you see this; how far is Bad Wind Schiem (SPELLING?!?!?) from Nuremberg? I know they toured around the country whenever they were able to!

Loved your spelling! It's Bad Windsheim and you pronounce Bad with an a like in large, not as the English word bad. And Windsheim is like the English "winds", but say the W more like a v, and then "heim" is pronounced like it rhyme, but starting with an h instead of an r... It means home of the winds.

It is about 35 miles from Nuremberg, about a one hour drive because you have to drive along rather small roads.

I'd like to think I can take a teensy bit of credit since I homeschooled most of the way through. Of course, he's pretty self-motivated and quite a smarty pants as well.

Of course you can take credit! I didn't say whose great achievement it was.

These were some pretty studdly guys and gals. I think they can all do about 1,000 times more pullups than me. But then again, I'm almost to the point of WEARING pullups, so whatever.

I figured this was why my parents keep traveling so much, now that they're empty nesters. That's probably what I'll end up doing, too.

Hope everything goes well for him in school. I bet if there's Walmart near his will fill up his side of the dorm room pretty quickly. Although boys are so much different then girls, when it comes to their dorms. Girls just have more "stuff" I think.

I don't know if this will show up or not....it seems I've been making replies on threads and they never appear.

Your son and his roommate are like my son & me. When I moved in to my dorm I had my clothes, my bedding, an alarm clock and a desk lamp and that was pretty much it. I went home every week-end, so I had a clothes basket on top of my closet that I threw my clothes in during the week and that's what I hauled back and forth each week-end. My son had a mini-fridge, a microwave, a laptop, a little side table, dishes, clothes, floor lamp, tv, video games and on and on.... I moved in with me, my parents and my boyfriend, my stuff fit comfortably in the trunk. He moved in with his stuff crammed all over the trunk and back seat and passenger seat of his car plus my husband drove down also and had some more stuff. This year he got an apartment so it was even worse

Liesa! Waldo Lake would be great!!! We have a rather large trailer just for the two of us - got a great deal from a friend - 1995 HR - like mint on the inside. It was pretty good on the outside, until we took it to Eugene this fall to park for the winter for football games at a friend's. Of course we got a flat tire about an hour out of town - I told Jim I smelled something, but he wouldn't listen. So just as we got to our exit in Eugene, people started honking and telling us. We were only about a 1/2 mile off I-5, so we kept driving to our destination. It was really comical to see the tire with only a wire around a wheel - until we saw that said wire tore up the wheel well, and cut off both the valves to drain the grey and black water tanks. It is still in Eugene until March when we will have to get it fixed, and then plan to go camping at the coast before coming home. So, maybe we could head up to Waldo Lake instead!!! That would be so fun! Of course the snow is still a little iffy in March - or maybe early April???

Why won't the guys just listen?? Such a bummer! And dare I say your toilet is now as UNfunctional as ours was in Kazland? I'm crying a bucket for you, Tammie!! WHy? Because when the toilet breaks, AIN'T NOONE Happy!!!

Hmmm.... I wonder how many we could get? But seriously, I'm sooooo looking forward to having everyone here at our new digs for a Meet! Jacuzzi, bonfire on the riverfront, big fireplace, lattes in the AM!! Should be rather fun, I'd say!

We're doing those this weekend! I went to the best Christmas party a few years ago. A friend of mine's mother in-law hosted it. OK, I just got some GREAT advice from a friend who's oldhat at making gingerbread houses. You have to do it in 2 stages. PUtting the houses themselves together the night BEFORE!! Then doing the candy with the friends the next day- that way you don't have collapsing walls and roofs. Brings a whole new meaning to bringing down the house.

Make tomorrow one of those days!!! I think a pop up is a great compromise between a bit of comfort and still feeling like you're under the stars. Do it!!!

She wanted someone who talks (I hope she gets lucky, I never found a guy who REALLY likes to talk!) and "share". I think she may be looking a very long time.

I hate when posts don't show up! Happens all the time. But, half the time, for me, I think it's just senility creeping in.

I can't even remember how much stuff I had when I moved in. The only thing I do remember from the whole deal was arriving to a roommate that liked pink everything and Elvis. It as a disaster at the get-go.

Actually, the toilet and shower were usable - the pipe is sealed, just no valve left to open. We only slept there twice. I'm using an enzyme treatment in the tank that is supposed to dissolve everything, so I hope it isn't too terrible - I have visions of Robin Williams in RV going through my mind.... Jim already lived through that one once when we borrowed someone else's camper and Ryan at age 12 decided to use the toilet even though we had warned him not to...

Okay, a meet with fires and Jacuzzis and lattes sounds heavenly!!! Guess we'll have to do a separate camping meet up?

Oh, IKWYM about being ready for Andrew to leave after a long visit - After Ryan went to Basic and then Tech School, things were crazy with him trying to be an adult in our house!!! It was good for all of us when he moved out. But I do miss all the little boys and the noise!!

That's just him trying to show that he's his own man now, all young men go through a stage where they start being mouthy and arguing everything that's said to him no matter the conversation. I call it...."The cutting of the apron strings." Your situation might be a bit different since he's been away for a while, but a lot of young men come back around to being the sweet "little boys," we once knew them to be once they know your not trying to force them into being that little boy they once were at home. I wonder how many of the guys on here would admit to this.
